I can see why people like the 2018 one, but I really enjoy the 2021. The new nose design and slightly better (longer) wingtip cannons just add so much athenticity in my opinion. I modified mine slightly so now it features retractable landing legs and makes for a rather nice display piece.

Great comparison. I have the 2018 and am partial to that one. We got my step son the 2021 for Christmas. The thing I did like about the 21, was the wing mechanism. When I built my 18 back then, I was (and still am) concerned about the elastics drying out and breaking over time. Glad to see they deleted them. However, not making the gear retract bugged me though.

My first one was the 2012 one, and I just bought the 2021, I have to say I LOVED the 2012. It was so fun to play with, but sadly my friend took it apart on my 1st grade party, and i couldn’t put it back together.

I grew up with the 1999 model and for it's simplicity and proportions I think it's the best. It's also been a simple build to modify without taking away from the look. I just got my hands on the 2021 model and honestly my biggest gripe with it is the way R2-D2 sits behind the cockpit. He sits almost a brick too high and it really destroys the look for me. I do like the new technic block they use for the s-foil action though. Personally I wish I'd gotten a chance to get the 2018 model, but I really didn't do anything with Lego from 2011-2022 so I missed out on a number of amazing sets.

I still have my 1999 X wing but I modified mine to have folding landing gears on the back because I hated the original design. My wings don't open as easily as yours but after 25 years I can't complain.

Got the 2012 T-65 back when it was released for christmas. She was my first x-wing and the one I have the most memories with, so 2012 sits in a special place with me. Since then it has been lost to the parts bin, but I have picked up the 04 and 2021 models, and I've been buying time to get the 99 model. The 04 is a wonderful model; it looks great as it's got that wonderful 2003-2006 lego star wars asthetic, yoda's hut is a great inclusion, and it's the only true ESB themed x-wing we've gotten. If left stock, the 2021 model is kind of abysmal. It's squatty and lacks substance. That being said, the mod potential on this model is absolutely phenomenal, and it has the potential to become aesthetically the most accurate looking of the models. When you get the nose and cockpit angled properly, fix the intakes, lengthen the guns, and put proper gear on it, it becomes one hell of a display model, and it sits proudly on my desk because of it. And I actually don't mind the smaller size, in fact I prefer it. Believe it or not, the 99 model, the smallest of the bunch, is actually spot on minifig scale proportionate to a figure's height, so every other model is actually a bit too large. The 2021 model is the second closest, so it works perfectly for a display scene if figures are involved.

2021 model cost $40 in 2023... the price is simply amazing for such a large model!

My personal favourite is the 2004/2006 X-wing. The 2012 one looks very jarring with the modern figures and semi-modern design but still having bright red but I still enjoy it since I remember starring at it for hours in a toy magazine for target a long time ago.

I remember when the 1999 X-wing came out, it even looked bad back then! Lol. The early Lego Star Wars sets where crude to say the least. But we've come a long way since then. The 2018 X-wing almost feels like a mini UCS set, and probably the main reason for my disdain of the 2021 set. It feels like such a step back. Hopefully with the step back now taken we can start going back forwards! Nice to to see all of theses X-wings side by side, great vid!

the 2006 one is the one i got for my birthday when i was a kid. it came with so many figs i didn’t have i was so happy

I grew up with the 1999 and 2006 versions so those two are my favorites. I actually think I like the 1999 the best though. It was so simple being smaller and still looked great using the simplest techniques and pieces. I agree it was the best 1999 model. I liked the gray color too.

Love the comparisons. Other than the UCS (which I love of course), the only one I've built is the 9493 (I've built 3 of them, so quite familiar with that set). I gave two used ones I got to my two brothers and recently picked up another one cheap off ebay to have a second, so I could have Red 5 and Red 6 built together (Haven't done that yet). I did get the little one from last year as a Christmas gift, I think my family added it on to an order with Grogu to get to a GWP threshold, but I haven't built it.

After watching this video it gives me a idea of which x-wings I need I have all but 3. Also what about 75273 and 75102.

It's sad when the latest is one of the most disappointing one. 2018 is still the best.

I like the 2021 and the 2018 models for sure but the 2006 is still really nice and 3rd place for me

2021 is my favorite because of the mechanism. It's so smooth without rubberbands and can easily be done with one hand while swooshing it around

I think I somewhat used to have the first one, but when I got it it was only luke and r2 and the xwing. Pretty sure I threw it away tho

2021 is a little smaller as it is most similar to minifig scale

I have the 2018 one and Poe’s orange and black. The orange and black is kinda underrated. In my opinion the 2018 red 5/ red 3 is the best lego x wing. Not including UCS.

I only have the more recent versions of the X-wing, so I love this comparison with the older models. I'm not a native speaker of English and if I'm correct you were an English teacher or something, right? So I have a question: At 12:34 you said "it's a little bit littler". Is that how to say it? In school I was taught it should be "smaller" not "littler". But we were taught British English in school so maybe "littler" is American/Canadian??? Just like the crisps and chips and chunkies (?) on your last livestream haha

The 2012 has the most accurate looking x-wing(with minifigures) to date. (There is the official Red-5 Lego X-wing released sometime later that is even more accurate but no minifigures because it's technic) That said, even though I have not gotten the 2021 version, I still think it's a good model. Unlike the many others, the 2021 is perhaps the most customizable x-wing I've seen. There are several videos on RU-vid that teach people how they can modify this bird which make it look better. Can't say the same about the others. Still, now that I look back, I think there are some slight modifications that can be made to some of these to look better albeit, none of these are as jarring and changing as the ones that can be done on the 2021 version. Edit: For those who are interested in working torpedoes in the 2012, a pair of stud shooters can either be attached to the side with the help of extra bricks. Afterwards, the torpedoes can be reattached to the shooters so that way, they can actually be fired. For good effect, have some glowing studs attached(This might make them longer though.). There may be other ways but this is the only one I can think of just by looking at the instructions. I don't have any stud-shooters though.
