The Original design is by JKBrickworks, a brilliant designer, which was submitted to Ideas but was not chosen and then years later Lego releases a worse set(this one), same story as the garbege truck released this year / no shoutout to the original designer. If you want the original thankfully Cada picked it up, gave huge creds to the designer all over the box(payed him also of course). I have the set and gotta tell you... super stable, brickbuilt sun and moon, and even has pins to super easy motorization which a set like this is perfect for. Thank you for the review
I knew I saw it before, that’s lame Lego made it anyways with no credit to him. I would be honored if Lego took my set idea and made it but bummed not getting something for it.
@@shroomzzz It's not just me who's saying it but most people who saw JK's model and understand that just by using a different base and molded spheres instead of brickbuilt ones ,a different part here and there, does not make it a different design. If you go to to the original video from JK and check the comments you will see a consensus there.
I don't know. Doesn't look the part to me. The technic part is so large compared to the sun, earth and moon. Should have been built more delicate towards the spheres, like a real orrery. Or have some "wood" paneling to make it look cleaner. Also far too many random colors that draw too much attention away from the stars of the set. Also, the pieces for the sun and earth look terrible with those slots carved out for the connection pins. It is bearable for the sun, but the earth? Does the rotation of the sun and earth even match up with the correct "timing" ? 365odd rotations for one full revolution?
It’s a pretty cool set idk it’s one of those sets you like or you don’t like for sure. I guess you gotta build it yourself to get a real idea/feel for it.
You have to line up earth better. It takes some time but it is possible to get earth perfectly straight on the arm. But to do this you have to put it off angle a little bit so when you rotate the handle it will straighten out and be perfectly in line with the arm.
I would have been the precise client for that but it seems unachieved to me. Not refined and stable enough. It's the kind of set you use the mechanism a little bit at the beginning and then forget about it. With a nice discount of maybe - 20 euros maybe but not full price. Thanks for being one of the first to introduce it.
@@Nickstraightupbricks Sorry, I was not clear with what I meant. I mean it‘s „wrong“ from Lego‘s side. I built it myself and it‘s like that in the instructions and official fotos.
@@NickstraightupbricksYeah, if the moon would rotate the other way, the moon-phase-icons would be correct. From new to full moon the moon gets brighter on his right side first. The way the set is built it gets brighter from the left side first. But I guess it‘s simply the stickers that are the wrong order.
i noticed ALL orrery lack an ellipse orbit for the seasons. that mechanism is easier than the rotation ratio of earth and moon orbit. anyway 80 euros is ok.
@@Nickstraightupbricksthen it should be even cheaper in euros, probably around 70 or so for us. Tho all stores here will probably take legos example and make it 80
Idk if I'd call the price fair. For me, its 99.99 cad, which is WAY overpriced imo... typically price to piece ratio for Canada can be about $0.10 cad per piece on a good day, and this is about double that
