************One item I neglected to mention that was brought to my attention:
The orientation of the receiver once installed should have the IR receiver bulbs should be facing 12/3/6/9 o'clock positions and the flashing LEDs should be in the X pattern. Having the IR Receiver bulbs in the X pattern is considered illegal in the clubs and ends up blocking straight/side/rear shots at long distance. Oh and if you order your LegoDEI order with the circular pattern and not the cross. That might also lead to conflict with some clubs or create difficult hit situations.************
This is a long version walkthrough of installing a LegoDEI Heng Long battle unit/IR receiver in a Heng Long KV-2. I take time to explain all the functions and layout of your typical Heng Long tank so when you take it apart you won't be lost. You'll need a phillips head screw driver at the very least, but more tools (metric) is recommended to have on hand for these RC tanks. This unit is specially made for Heng Long boards and uses the IR receive and headlight LED port to function. Note that LegoDEI makes a Clark/Tamiya battle unit which is not meant for this.
The LegoDEI battle unit is co-developed with DAKRCTank to create an affordable way for beginners to get into RC tank battles with their ready to run tanks. This is a not only an upgrade but should be considered a bare minimum to have for your RC tank club battles so that hits are tracked properly. The cables used are a kit I came up with to make everything plug and play and it is available through LegoDEI on Etsy. So far it is only for Heng Long 7.0.
The very simple nature of the Heng Long battle system offers 5 to 6 hits before your tank "dies". It does work with Tamiya-style tanks however it does not have the full function to simulate battle damage and so on, giving you an unfair advantage if you abuse. Please be considerate if you are mixed in with non Heng Long tanks. We allow and require this setup for recurrent participants at Irvine RC Tank Club's beginner battles and you might be able to join other clubs with it too, following some rules imposed to make it fair.
