Leica just announced and released the Leica Lux app for iOS and it gives you the Leica looks (presets) and a bunch of emulations. But how good is it really?
I shoot frequently with Leica M, Leica Q, Nikon Z and Fujifilm cameras and lenses. There is no such thing as a distinctive Leica look. But there is distinctive personal style and vision that comes through no matter which camera brand is used.
Yep, very true. There is a distinctive (imo) quality in the bokeh of good Leica lenses, but like I said, the operator makes the look and the photo. Take care!
For me, this app is shameful, both in terms of price and content. That Leica offers or sells a photo app for iPhone that provides a UI similar to modern Leica cameras is a good idea. Selling additional LUT filters similar to those of the SL/Q3 is meh. But pretending to replicate the look of their lenses with a fake, lousy blur is mocking people. It devalues their equipment, especially at an exorbitant subscription price. Leica really disappoints me on this point.
@@cris_photography Thanks for your efforts for always being the first to cover Leica news! Been following your content for a while and am waiting for a new video with another new Leica :D ;)
Yes I got it. Oh and I actually have the ApoTelyt 135mm for real. It’s a fun implementation and I finally enjoy using my iPhone 15 for photography. I’ve only ever used in an emergency as I am not a fan of how Apple implement the camera. I really like the app.
Conclusion: amusant, petit effet de mode sympa. Ne mérite pas du tout un abonnement. Leica reste avant tout une expérience sur le matériel et l’approche photographique.
I downloaded it and while it’s fun, somewhat similar to my actual Leica cam/lenses, etc…I won’t be using it and will delete. Not doing the subscription nonsense, there’s not even a purchase option.
There is no point to argue this will replace Leica camera or not … it’s just not the objective!! However this app is poorly written which I don’t know why … I have Xiaomi 14 Ultra which has similar simulations but I did an AB comparison with iPhone 15 Pro Max using this app, there is no way output from this app is comparable in aperture mode. Photo mode does work better but they are basically just color filters or presets. In Japan there is Leica phone which also has similar simulations and it works a lot better in output.
You press right under the photo (above the posture compensation) you’ll see a little horizontal line. Then you press on « AF » at the right and you’ll be in manual mode 😉
Oh man… so it seems! But seeing your video and seeing you share the same thoughts, I think it’s a big no no. Hopefully an update will fix some of the bugs - time will tell
This app is pure garbage. It’s all smartphone camera with Leica presets. This is a really low move by Leica. This would be like Lamborghini selling scooters………..just a desperate move.
