Math, another very good video, your videos not only help and guide, but are also very entertaining and that is not achieved by others who make videos like you
Hi math, I have watched all of your videos about m10r and sl2. I wonder if you'd have to choose one, which would you choose and why? Also, is the m10-r sensor better than SL2? I watched your video and seems highlight recovery is a lot better on m10r. I am asking this question because I am considering getting one of the 2. I already have a m9 and do not plan to sell it anytime soon due to its special ccd sensor and color rendering.
Great video!! Have you adapter your 100mm2.8 R lens on your M? Just curious as i want to use my M camera to scan 35mm film and looking for a lens that can get to 1:1
I very recently purchased the Leica Macro-Adapter M, and I've just watched your video for at least the second time. Thank you very much for going to this trouble. Your video is very clear and useful. Now, though, the big question: what do I do with Leica's Macro-Adapter M beside shoot insects and LEGO characters?
Good piece! I like using the macro adapter with 75mm lenses because of their shorter minimum focus distance compared with 90mms (not counting the f/4 macro). The old Summilux is my favorite with still subjects due to its longer focus throw while the recently discontinued f/2.4 Summarit handles faster with moving subjects due to its light weight and shorter throw. Rear LCD or Visoflex EVF mandatory. In a pinch, if I have it on hand, I’ll use a 28-35-50 Tri-Elmar (the “MATE”) in its in-between 28 & 50mm setting, which allows for quite close focusing and a focal length near 40mm. It’s not really macro territory but it gets you closer and the image quality is very nice. Again, using the rear LCD or Visoflex EVF is a must.
Great video, thanks a ton for sharing your inputs! I have a question though, is it possible to stack two macro adapters together to achieve higher magnification ratio?
Wow. What a very specific video. I love this. Thank you so much for this. I need to buy this adapter! Also, what iOS app did you use to measure the distances?
Your info is great. I just got a monochrom 246 with the 50mm summilux. I was wondering if I could get a unique and beautiful portrait look adding the macro to my 50mm?
The Leica-M macro adapter has a limited focus range and will likely not work for portraits. For portraits I would use a Leica-M 75mm or 90mm lens. Or you go for a cheap but sharp true macro tele lens from another brand and use an adapter to mount it on your Mono 246.
Does using a macro extension tube make it more difficult to focus using the rangefinder? Would you have to stick to live view or an EVF to effectively focus?
Donald, you cannot use the rangefinder with macro adaptors, this setup is not calibrated to it. Use LV or better the EVF. Then it becomes easy! Cheers, Hans.
Nice Vid. What if I wanna use the Macro Adapt. with a 35mm Summicron ASPH for Stock Photos like FLAT LAY? I don't wanna buy a new lens but would like to use the adapt. from Leica. Do you think it would work shooting with a tripod? 35mm for Flat Lay is ofcause to wide. Thanks and stay safe.
Thanks for your comment. The Macro Adapter will work fine with the 35mm Summicron. You can use all focal lenths from 28mm on, not shorter, so 35mm is in the working range.
Great video, Thanks. I have a question: the macro adapter changes the distance between the lens and the sensor, does it therefore mean you cannot focus to infinity with it on? Just curious! 🤔
Well, as an experiment this is interesting enough. But clearly, if macro (or close-up in this case) is your goal, a leica M is the wrong tool for the job. Don't get me wrong: I love Leica M cameras. In fact they are my favorite cameras and I prefer to use them whenever I can. Back in the film days, I used to schoot macro on a Pentax 67 with extension tubes. Just for the heck of it. But, clearly, that too was the wrong tool for the job, lol. But let's be honest here.
The purpose of the video is to show how to use the M10-R for macro with the adapter and to explain "reproduction ratio". Since you can never get over 1:2 reproduction ratio, there are better choices for macro, clearly. Thats why I showed alternatives from other brands in the first half of the video, up to 5:1
