I went from XT3 to XPro3 and a M8, and then just going all in with the M 240. I ask myself all the time why I went to a 10 year old camera. I think the Xpro3 OVF makes so much more sense now. It's got clean frames, a 50mil isnt crowded with a 75m, and you dont miss focus. But it's my favorite everyday camera, solid brass everything, and I do love the colors and output. Provided I nail focus. I came from mechanical film cameras too and was primarily shooting a twin lens reflex right up until 2014 or so. I always wanted digital cameras to have that same feeling in the hand and only Leica M does that. So I'll probably be chasing an M10 in a year or two. Anyways, nice SM7B. Sounds great.
Nice review. Had and XPro2 which I ditched for a GR3 as I prefer just using a wide view, and also preferred the colours / IQ from the Ricoh. Had been missing the RF (style) viewfinder and had no issues with MF so thinking recently about also splurging for an M240/M242 with a 35mm for starters.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm about to trade my Leica Q for an M240 because I also have the Ricoh GRIII for street and somehow they end up being "too similar" and the Q feels "too easy"(?). I'm now looking for that mechanical photo experience to go back to the basics without dealing with the hassle of film. Do you think the GRIII and the M240 with 35/50mm lenses are a wise combo for street/travel/family? I mean, non work-related photography, just pleasure.
I would really like to get a Leica M 240, not even sure why since it is a 10 years old camera 😅 it such an irrational choice, probably because I never tried one but heard many people talk about. I would like to point out a couple of things: GR3 is an outstanding camera and in my experience Nikon Z6/Z7 are the mirrorless camera where Voiglander VM lens perform better ( better than Sony ). Your video did not help much in my decision but it was really funny and honest, thanks!
Thanks for watching and commenting! As I've mentioned, I was chasing the familiarity of using a mechanical film/M-body camera. Despite it being an older camera it meets the most of my needs and shooting style better than most modern gear. That said, if your local camera store is able to rent out gear you can test one out and see for yourself. Cheers!
I sold my Sony A7iii and swapped it for an M240 with Summicron 35mm lens + voigtlander 40 f/1.2. Yes it's an older camera but it's the closest to the film experience I've had. The battery life is the best of all the mirrorless cameras I've ever used, plus that analogue feel, there's just something special about using it, can't see myself selling it anytime soon. Yes, the M10 is very tempting now, but: 1. frankly the quality of the photos (apart from the higher iso which I don't use anyway) is for me identical to the M240 2. the screen of the M10 may have a better one but the one of the M240 is enough and also causes less chimping, so that's great too. For me, the combination of Q2 + M240 is perfect for any occasion tbh.
