Leica M240 v Leica M11- Side by Side Comparison HD 1080p

I just got my hands on the M11 at the Leica Store Porto last week. I really liked how light the black aluminum M11 is, but comparing the files side by side for my purposes (I no longer shoot weddings and portraits professionally) I don't really need the 60MP, so I couldn't justify the immediate purchase to myself for the money. I didn't see much difference in details I could pull from the highlights or shadows, and with my 35mm 'Lux I'm not really hurting on high ISO performance too often. So I *want* one but can't justify getting one new since it's not a professional tool for me anymore (I'm now a lawyer). But it's real nice, I still really want one. The reduction in weight and the new menu system and the ISO select dial are all so satisfying to use. I think what I'm gonna do as a hobbyist now is pick up a used M246 monochrom for accessory interchangability with my M240. I've always wanted to try the monochrom cameras and I don't really think I'll need more the 24MP especially with the lower noise with the removed bayer filter, and now that the used prices on the M246 have come down a bunch, I think that's what I'm going to go for! The leftover cash I would've spent on the M11 I'll spend on a plane ticket somewhere to shoot in. Good short and sweet visual comparison vid. Envious. :) PS I would *never* judge your M240 for being brassed at the edges so beautifully. Mine is as well and I *love* that it's worn in so well and is clearly an object that I use daily.

Teri, I came across your website, and you do very nice work I also noticed your RU-vid channel on the M240 and the M11 both are nice cameras which I also use' as a retired wedding photographer 54yrs I've always preferred the range Finder good luck on your work. Cheers 👍👍👍

Love the M11 but that M240 you have is looking mighty beatuful with it's patina. Nothing better then a well used Leica. My M240 is showing a little patina but not nearly as much as yours.

But how does it handle and how are the files side-by-side? Why the upgrade?

Hi, Teri! I have a Leica TL2 and looking at an m240 for $2800 that comes with all original stuff and a half case. Do you think this is a good price and still a viable camera in 2023? I also have a Fuji xpro 3…I know that one is ‘inspired’ and not a true rangefinder, do you think the m240 would really make that much difference or should I just keep on with the xpro 3 and forget the m240? I appreciate your time and feedback!

I have a 240 today and was thinking about the M11. I also have an M6 and gravitate to it more than the 240, mainly because it just feels better in my hand, I think because it's thinner and lighter. Can you say how you have reacted to the M11 from the "feel" side of things? Was it a worthy upgrade from the ergonomic standpoint? PS, I also want to see that promised video on fast focusing for weddings with the Leica!

While I can never afford a Leica, I am deeply curious about how Leica M wedding photographers manage to photograph quick moments on a wedding considering that you have to manually focus. I hope you can make a video about it!

Interesting to see them side by side. Considering an M10 this winter as a few more pop on the market. Should feel like a fairly big upgrade resolution wise on the M8.2 I'm using over on my channel. Subscribed. Cheers.

Hi Teri, how does the Jpeg file dynamic range compare between these 2? I sold both my m240 and Q within a year of acquiring them because the highlight and shadows blow too easily when shooting jpegs. Thinking of getting back to the modern M system but so far the 15-stop dynamic range seems to refer to the dng files, wondering if the jpegs are improved as well. If not, I’ll just stick to my m9 🥹
