This is the exact camera/lens combo I use every day. It's just astoundingly awesome. If you want to maximize your experience, I recommend a leather luigi half-case.

I have used summilux 35 for 3. Versions v2 , pre fle, and fle. For me pre fle is my favorite.

Hello Samuel , great content. A quick question, is the 35 FLE a snug fit on your analog M6? Asking because I have my new 35FLE and MP being adjusted as we speak. It was to much loose (rotational) when adjusting the somewhat heavy focusing tab.

My only deviation from Leitz lenses has been to Zeiss with the 21mm f4.5 Biogon, which I chose after exhaustive comparisons with all the alternatives. Distortion free & amazing corner to corner resolution. I do think you have made the right choice with that Summilux. Obviously you really like it. When a piece feels good in the hands and delivers on quality, hey, what else is there to wish for. Portra, ... omg .. that is such a highly evolved product, it's almost criminally stupid not to use it. And as with all films, they only remain with us if the sales are there to keep them in production. Like our brains and muscles, one rule applies: Use it or lose it. Sometimes I wish that instead of investing in my 5D three years ago that I had instead picked one of these up. Obviously it’s more practical for me to start with a digital camera if I’m looking to get jobs right away. But man that Leica is sexy!😍

Thanks for sharing your comments and images of the Leica M6 and 35mm Summilux combination. Based on my previous experience with the 35mm f/1.4 on my Nikon 35mm SLR, I knew I wanted a 35mm f/1.4 for my Leica M6. Based on my previous experience with Zeiss lenses on my Nikon 35mm SLR and Zeiss lenses on my Contax G1 35mm rangefinder, I knew I liked the image quality of Zeiss glass. The first lens I bought for my Leica M6 was a Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 Distagon. It was expensive but not as expensive as the 35mm f/1.4 Summilux. With the money I saved, I was able to buy a 90mm f/2 Summicron for my second lens. Later, I bought the 21mm f/1.4 Summilux for my third lens.

How’d it work out? Do you still have this set up? I’ve had my M6 for about 5 years and that same Voigtlander 35mm 1.4 classic has lived on it for most of that time. I also have a voigtlander 50mm 1.2 in it’s a much better all around lens but I still prefer the 35mm perspective for what I do with this camera. Partly because 35mm is just great but also because my viewfinder is .72 and it’s just way better suited for that frame. I love a 50mm but coupled to a wider rangefinder, the frame takes up so little of the viewfinder that it feels more like I’m aiming at a composition then making one. Anyway, I’m thinking it’s time to finally take the plunge into a proper 35mm lens and this is at the top of my list.

I have both the voigtlander and FLE, and i would say the build on the voigtlander is on par with the FLE. Have you noticed the aperture ring on the FLE has a little play when you move it up and down? Also at the end of the aperture range, you're able to turn it past 1.4 and f16 like a quarter of a stop. Its not just my FLE, I've played with 2 others that have this "feature". Also noticed it did that on my 35 cron asph v1 also. Must be a Leica thing. 🤷

I wish Leica offered 28 summilux or this 35mm f/1.4 FLE summilux in place of 50 summilux with the *white* limited edition M10-P that i purchased in january. Manual focusing would've been easier with a wider lens, i guess. Thanks for your amazing videos brother.

Years ago I bought my used Leica M6 which came with a 35mm F1.4 Summilux ASPH. I paid a small fortune then, well above my pay grade one might say. I am glad that I did. Leicas, particularly the older ones are just magic, very expensive magic but magic nonetheless.

Back here 6 months later. How are you feeling about it now? The balance actually looks pretty good. I love the image quality out of the Zeiss 35/1.4 but carrying it around for anything that isn’t work sucks...

Leica lenses are mostly of good build quality but by comparison Voigtlander lanses certainly don't feel cheap IMHO. In fact my CV 35/1.4 has a firmer aperture ring than my summicron 50mm! However, the points about vignetting and IQ are correct in my experience.

I think it would be remiss to not mention that a recent 35mm Summicron is going to get you pretty close to the Summilux for quite a bit less money. If you’re shooting at 1.4 the majority of time then sure, Summilux is the way forward. For everything else, on film anyway, you’re pretty much there with a Summicron. Nice looking vid 👍🏻

Leica is like Ferrari or Lamborghini, can you get a car that goes from 0-60 faster and half the price? Yes, but it would not have the same characteristics, build quality, uniqueness and refinement. I shoot 35 and 50 Lux on my M6 and M10. You really see the differences when you shoot it on the M10 (or any other digital M), the M6 is more fun tho! :)

If you ever want to give Voigtlander a second chance, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the 35mm f2 Ultron. It's an aspherical design (super sharp and no distortion); the fact that it is the most compact 35 f2 currently in production is also seducing me. You got my subscription!

^This. The voigtlander ultron 35mm f2 and 1.7 are outstanding performers and definitely perform just as well as Leica's equivalents but handling is not the same. The nokton 1.4 is a weak performer but that's not its fault, it is modeled after the v1 pre-asph summilux.

zm35 1.4 by Zeiss provides overall better image quality compare to this. The point of 11663 is a balance between size and image quality. Btw no, you don't need a $4000 lens for life time.

I do appreciate the production of the video and the content but sadly this video didn't do it for me. The big problem with this is that it's not relatable to his target audience. How many people have 4k for a lens on a 2k body? When you get the likes of Negative Feedback, Matt Day, Willem doing more low fi cameras and film and technique its far more relatable.

If you always make videos to please everyone you please no one. I enjoyed the video and plenty of people throw a lot of money into their canon and sony. The difference is that most people who own Canon/Sony/whatever buy many lenses, whereas with Leica many people (not all), have just one lens glued to the camera. You also have to remember that Sam can sell this lens any time and get his money back or even make a profit on the lens.

I shoot Leica M with a 28 lux and 50 lux and i can tell you that it's well worth the price if you can afford it. I shot with the Fuji system for 5 years and had all their fast primes. I'm sorry but Leica is in another league. With Leica you pay for a combo of build quality, heritage and an experience that you can't get with any other system. Don't hate unless you've owned the system and have used it long term.
