This is such an amazing lecture, with just the right amount of technical detail. I’m especially grateful to understand the differences between the 50/1.4 and 50/2 SL lenses. Thanks, Peter!

Wow, thank you so much for this! As a current SL2 user with M and TL zoom lenses (for compactness) , it was interesting to hear Mr. Karbe's opinion about APSC, and cropping. Can't wait to get my first SL lens (especially the 21mm). I can confirm, the M and even the TL lens do not work as well on other L mount panasonic cameras (adapted S lens autofocus won't even work). Would love to hear about the TL lens as well as the S lens, especially adapted to the SL.

So therefore with 1.5 crop factor in relative to contrast ratio in proportion we can get the same preception to FF with 1.5xfactor decrease in contrast ratio. ( I hope my question phase properly about the relativity to contrast level to crop factor of I focus in preception to the overall Capture imagery)

I really enjoyed the video but really wish it was indexed so I could find the section easily where Mr Karbe talks about the 50 Summilux-SL. A great deal of his talk focuses on the Summicron-SL line.

He is very proud (rightly so) of the Summicron line - and thus talks mostly about the newest developments.

@@LeicaCameraAustralia it will probably cost me more money ha but very interesting. I review and use mostly M and LTM Leicas so SL glass is another can of worms (and R.. I found a few points at the end especially interesting). Thanks

May I ask is that mean the ratio of contrast affecting what is perceiving in sharpest use. Meaning in translation in focus area ( DOF)

I have the Leica SL2-S, and I'm interested in purchasing the new Leica Summicron APO 35mm ASPH. I value smaller size, but will the M APO produce similar results as the SL 35mm?
@LeicaCameraAustralia
@LeicaCameraAustralia 2 года назад
Yes. In a word. The 35mm APO-Summicron-M is most certainly up to the standard of the 35mm Summicron-SL. I have used both on the SL2 and I have no doubt at all.
@eis-bl4xw

If the summicron 50 f2 is better than the summilux 50 f1.4 for the SL, why is the Lux more expensive? Seems like light flux is the only thing going, is that really that big of a deal considering that the cron is not far behind on that?
@LeicaCameraAustralia
@LeicaCameraAustralia 3 года назад
f1.4 lenses will always be more expensive than f2 lenses for a variety of reasons, not least of which is the amount of glass required. Personally, I prefer the Summicron because the DoF fall off is very cleverly designed to appear more pronounced than f2 would normally indicate. It's also a much newer design and a lot lighter!

I ask myself after going to the presentation, if 40 mp at the M10 R is too much for the M Lenses looking at the diagram comparison 35 SL and 35mm? Do I understand it wrong?
@LeicaCameraAustralia
@LeicaCameraAustralia 3 года назад
Hi Rene. The M lenses are pushing at what is possible with the design constraints of such lenses - small lenses are challenging to make, as Peter explains. If you need to go to more megapixels then the SL lenses allow that, but they are of course bigger. I have been using a 180mm Elmarit-R on my SL2 and whilst a tad soft at f2.8, at f4 it's fully up to the 47MP sensor. Older M lenses might benefit for stoppoig down a bit, new ones not so much. The 75mm Noctilux-M is a good example, fully sharp at f1.25 on the M10R.
@sanfordlavine1760
@sanfordlavine1760 3 года назад
@@LeicaCameraAustralia would this apply to the M10M sensor? I would like to use my 28mm 2.8 R PC lens on the SL2 and M10M
