Leica SL with Leica R lenses - The best camera for vintage lenses

Ciao guys! In this video I'll share my experience with the Leica SL type 601 in combination with the Leica R lenses (almost no chromatic aberration) and with Panasonic Lumix S lenses.
I could use the Leica SL camera for 1 month, while my Panasonic S5 has been in the repair center for a problem with the IBIS (that it has not fixed). Let me know what do you think about the JPEGs you're seeing in the video! I love the colors coming out from this camera!
Sorry for my voice but I was a bit sick and I had to return the camera to the shop!
The LUT to get the Leica colors from the RAW files will come in one or two months...I'll keep you updated about it.

YES! The original SL had that magic that few cameras ever do. I regret letting it go, but I needed the money at the time.

There is an option in the SL menu to disable the button you hit with your nose when you are looking through the view finder. I to had that problem but fixed it with the menu option. The button works when you aren’t looking through the EVF. Very slick.

Ciao Luca. Love your color grading on this video! Was it shot on the S5? thinking about getting an SL aswell and planning to shoot my contax zeiss and Voigtländer M glass.

Hey Chris! Thanks mate, it was filmed with the S1...but it's the same as the S5. I've just used my Crunchy Wasabi LUT (ex film look 1 LUT) on top of V-LOG. I think that the SL/SL2/SL2s are the best cameras for film lenses. I will buy the SL one day...that's for sure!

The SL2-S is really attractive for shooting vintage lenses, but there are a lot of reports of bad battery life. I hope Leica sorts that out in firmware updates.

Hi Luca, after watching your video I bought that camera, the SL and a Leica adapter to use R lenses, it's fabulous, you were absolutely right, but with the video you can barely hear a whisper when you put your ear to its speaker. Sorry, is this normal? I put all the audio settings at maximum when recording, almost shouting into the microphone. I thank you for your information because I made the purchase in an official Leica store and it is under warranty.

Hi! Honestly I don't know about the audio issue you're having. Unfortunately I don't have the camera anymore...maybe ask the Leica store about it

@@LucaBono.Studio Thank Luca, it’s what I’m going to do, the issue that I have is that isn’t come sound after I record a video from the loudspeaker from the camera. You have to put your ear over it to hear a very little whisper. So you finally upgraded, ¿no?

Yeah that's weird and you should let it check. Back then I had the Leica SL as a loan for two months, while my Lumic S5 was being repaired. I'm now waiting for the right occasion to buy the SL2. Cheers!

Great review. I have Leica lenses which have all EF mounts for my bmpcc 6K pro. I’m looking now for a camera just for photos with my leica R lenses. The Leica SL would be awesome but I don’t want to unscrew always the Leitax Ef Adapter. So I should purchase a Canon EF to SL adapter? And do you think it works?

Thanks mate! Yes, you can buy any passive adapter from Canon EF to Leica L...the Novoflex adapters have precise infinity focus, but I'm not sure if they make them from Canon mount.

Condivido un pensiero: ho provato la SL2-S presso il Leica Store con 3 lenti Leica R differenti e ho avuto una strana sensazione.. mi è sembrato che la macchina restituisse file troppo puliti, come se un pò si perdesse il carattere vintage delle lenti e la loro resa si "modernizzasse". Cosa che con la S1 non mi capita. Tu non hai avuto questa impressione?

Ciao Fra! Si, anche io l'ho notato con la prima SL...è perché davanti al sensore ce un vetro correttivo, che converge meglio la luce quando si usano lenti che non hanno elementi asferici. Almeno questo è quello che ho letto in giro...a me onestamente piace la resa pulita, senza aberrazioni cromatiche. Saluti!

Hello Luca, I would be very grateful if you could recommend one or two adapters as I see you use in your video, to work with autofocus and other electronic adjustments with a Leica R Vario Elmar 28 - 70 mm lens, as well as a digital camera body that It works well for both video and photo, thank you. In your video it's Leica Sl with Leica R lenses, like I have, it seems like your opinion is that maybe it's better to use all Leica for this, right?

Hi Emilio. I think the easiest way to have AF is to buy a Leica R to Leica M adapter, buy the Techart Leica M to Nikon Z, buy a Nikon ZF...It's going to be expensive. Both Leica SL and Nikon Z cameras have a thin protective glass of the sensor, so your lenses will perform the best 👌🏻

Ciao Luca. The r lenses : I can get a good r macro 100 mm 2.8 yet it isn't Rom. Is it correct that Rom is preferable for SL camera's?

The 100mm f2.8 is so well corrected optically that I wouldn't care about the cpu contacts for the exif information and automatic digital correction

Do you have Leica M-Mount lenses? Then you need an Leica M to Leica SL adapter...I've been using Leica R lenses on this Leica SL, they have Leica R mount

I have a third party l to m Mount the sl2 not liking it at all.. The Cl on the other hand, just works… Pain in the neck… I have a rather nice collection of vintage class I want to use on full frame

Hey Bhagwan! The Contax Zeiss 35mm F2.8 is amazing and not too expensive...if you need a faster one the Leica R 35mm F2 is the best in class...if you need a cheap one, check the Yashica 35mm f2.8

Is there a reason you were shooting jpeg instead of raw? Did you find it easier to get better colour from the Jpegs?

Hey! I was shooting jpeg + raw, but I loved the look of the jpegs. There's no need of editing the photos with the Leica SL if you nail the wb and exposure imho...

@@LucaBono.Studio yes, i shoot with the SL2 and the combo is yes astonishing. Its actually helped me become a better photographer when using other platforms: it raised my personal sensitivity levels in many areas.
