The Irish Guy takes a look at the relegation mess that Leicester City have found themselves in this season. Business enquiries: irishguybusiness@gmail.com
When the Irish guy left HITC sport, I instantly unsubscribed. I instantly subscribed to this channel, and i'm proud of my decision. The Irish guy is the g.o.a.t football RU-vidr.
@LV 5000 1 the guy that played the most was Ward, and he genuinely is championship quality, Iverssen also has the issue that he barely has experience compared to other premier league goalkeepers, dude made 10 appearances this season without a single clean sheet, it's a genuine mess, you need a stable goalie in the PL, Leicester don't have that
This a quality goalkeeper can make even a mediocre defense look world class. Just look at Harry Maguire, he amazing at Leicester but showed his true level at Man U, where the goalkeeper doesn't have leadership skills.
0:51 Blackburn were also relegated from the Premier League in 1999, so that dishonour of a former Premier League champion being relegated has happened to them twice.
TBF Leeds won the old first division in 92 {the year before the name change} and were relegated in 04. Aston Villa won their 7th League title in 81 and were relegated in 2016 Nottingham Forest won the League in 78 and were relegated in 93 Derby County won the league in 72 and 75 before being relegated in 1980. Manchester City won the league in 1937 and were relegated the following season, they won it again in 68 and were relegated in 83.
You can't criticate sir.Claudio...he made back to back promotion Cagliari, manager big club, arrived 2 in league many times, arrived in the coppa italia final, won the manager of the year and made the Leicster miracle ❤
@@bdt5096 Rogers got them relegated? The board refuse to support the manager. And the players lost faith. You can't just blame that on the Manager alone. Almost any Manager would have had a similar result.
I think we need to talk about how Leicester City got promoted, won the league and could be relegated before Tottenham wins a significant trophy all while having England's best modern striker on their books
Leicester fan here. Absolutely no Leicester fans understand why neutrals keep defending Rodgers. Trying to shift the blame to Dean Smith, is laughable. Smith has had like 4 games, we were going down with a whimper under Rodgers and we’re getting relegated *because* of Rodgers, not inspite of him. The idea he wasnt backed in the transfer market is also a complete myth, he spent more than any other Leicester manager in history and almost all of it on big money flops. You talk rightly about how bad our recruitment is but seem to ignore, these are all Rodgers’ signings. He has said several times it’s him who signs the players not some committee. You even try and claim he signed James Maddison when he didn’t - Claude Puel did. Because almost all our decent players were Claude Puel’s players before Rodgers was here. That’s the point. You claim Ranieri coasted on a team of Nigel Pearson’s players, but Rodgers did exactly the same with a squad of a mixture of Nigel Pearson (Vardy, Schmeichel, Morgan, Albrighton, Fuchs) and Claude Puel’s (Maddison, Tielemans, Evans, Ricardo, Soyuncu, Ndidi, Iheanacho) players (then Barnes and Chilwell who were academy products). Is it also not the managers job to train organisation and fitness into players? Yet we look like the least fit and most defensively unorganised side in the division after years of Rodgers’ coaching. Rodgers has been a disaster in the transfer market and taken a great squad which was left to him and trained the fitness and organisation out of the players. He is 100% the biggest reason we’re going down and I doubt you’ll find many Leicester fans who’ll disagree
not a leicester fan, but someone who understand that rodgers literally was given complete control of the transfers there. All those average premier league players they signed and flops from abroad were players rodgers chose and thats what screwed leicester, not a lack of financial backing.
Im a liverpool fan and brendan rogers transfers for us were jokes too.borini balotelli lambert benteke markovic while others like sakho and joe allen did nothing special. Only good signings he made were coutinho firmino milner and the latter two barely played in brendans 2 months of the 2015/16 season
Exactly, Rodgers *ruined* the players beyond recognition with his poor management. The likes of Tielemans and Ndidi don't have legs anymore to run like they're in their mid 30s because he overplayed them, didn't manage their fitness and let them get injured repeatedly Terrible manager with a bad ego
@@BubblesChika with us it was different sturridge struggled with injury so was barely available and brendan rogers made bad signing after bad signing. With the right signings (hate fsg with a passion but cant blame them here) brendan rogers could have kept us in top 4 consistently but his recruitment cost us.
Yup Congerton was the chief scout under Rodgers and he is his best mate. Rodgers got Leicester into 5th twice because of the squad Puel built. All the players Rodgers signed apart from Fofana have been shit or below average.
Hi Irish guy! We ( Blackburn rovers ) were actually relegated from the premier league in 1999! 4 years after we won the league! We bounced back but then relegated into the championship again in 2012 and we haven’t been back since :( !
It’s like you’ve completed ignored all the factors surrounding them. Firstly their owner died which I’m sure had detrimental impacts to the parent company King Power. Secondly, during and after COVID King Power was essentially in limbo and had no cash flow. That is why Leicester collapsed. They couldn’t afford players or to even maintain their club. They tried to do the best they can considering the circumstances but unfortunately it wasn’t good enough. Sometimes it’s bigger than football.
Anyone rational can see it's a blip. But the style here is basically that of The Sun newspaper, whose favourite word that they love emblazening above their articles being DISGRACE more than anything. It's gutter journalism, so is this, despite the fact he displays genuine nous on occasion.
One of the biggest drop offs wasnt Reading or West ham. Definetly 19/20-20/21 sheffield utd. Going from a 9th place finish in the league with an exciting squad breathing down european footballs' neck to next season getting relegated scoring 2 points in 51 available and only winning their first game in matchday 18 was crazy. Only scoring 23 points, 16 points from survival, and scoring just 20 goals in the premier league is absolutely embarrasing, definetly the biggest drop off in prem history
@@LouisCook-nt3yo Yeah I was going to say Ipswich as well, legitimately looked like they could get CL football in 2001, relegated in 2002. That's a very steep drop.
Reminds me way too much of Newcastle in 2015-2016. On paper top 10 clear yet you can have all the talent in the world if the players don’t care it’s hopleds
Its absolutely out of the mind, from a neutral perspective wise, Leicester downfall was hinted from the start of Schmeichel left so easily. I thought it was some sort of one in a thousand PL oddities, but it was the first crumbling jenga piece.
Agreed. That was the point where I'm like, yeah, Leicester are getting relegated within the next 2-3 seasons. Not replacing him adequately was even worse. Not only that, certain players just seem like they feel above the club (Maddison, Tielemans, I'm looking at you two). All of that combined with no plan after sacking one of the best managers in club history just to give a man without a picture on Sofascore the reigns for two crucial home matches versus Aston Villa and Bournemouth, and you lose out on a potential 3-6 points that could have kept them up.
Zambian here first off Am impressed you pronounced our country right and even know we exist. Daka had potential but even here he not even considered a king they are mixed reactions. Some feel his not good others feel his great. Please 🙏 all those watching his not considered a king of Zambia 😂
If I was a young guy in my 20s again I would definitely visit or go live in Zambia (or Botswana )- instead of what I actually did with my freedom which was spending the 1980s working for the Gas Board during the day constantly hearing wealthy English folk do nothing but moan & smoking Pot in the evenings with my buddies…🙄👍.
Irish Guy makes a lot of good points in this video but you can't possibly say that Ranieri had nothing to do with that title win. They had momentum yes but saying that they would have won the league regardless of who was in charge is ridiculous.
I love the absolute mental gimnastics he did to state that Brendand Rogers finishing 5th somehow had more merit than Ranieri winning the league, did Michael find Ranieri's number on his mum's phone or something? Lmao
TBF Ranieri did capitalise on Nigel Pearson's momentum and things went downhill fast the following season. It also helped that the "Big Six" were all awful in 2015-16
Is the owners fault, they let the contracts run without renewing they kept Rodgers for ages. The contracts made the players not care cuz they were about to leave anyway. Rodgers sacked 18months too late. He has a history of being bad after a couple years
The owner suffered financially because of COVID 19 which wiped out billions from their company's value, this is the reason for the cost-cutting measures and poor recruitment, and ultimately the biggest reason for Leicester's fall. I'm surprised this was not brought up in the video
Agreed, but the recruitment was a much bigger problem imo. You just can't sell the two best players of a terrible backline and replace them with Wout Faes.
@@adityatiwary2221 But they’re the same thing. It was Rodgers who decided on the players who were being signed. He made that categorically clear on many occasions. The faults of the recruitment are directly the faults of Rodgers, he was terrible in the transfer market. Rodgers was the biggest issue.
I totally agree with what you said about Brendan Rodgers. He deserves to be celebrated at Leicester City because technically he’s their greatest ever manager.
@@franze4 Constant european finishes, won the fa cup, good recruitment and tactics but refused to change when things went downhill and was left too long in charge
For me its still a surpise how Wout Feas plays in the Prem. I still remember him as a uncontrolled centerback that couldn't get of the Heerenveen bench
Daily Potter news: Todd Boelhy admitted it was a mistake to sack Tuchel and to replace him with Potter and instead he should of kept Tuchel. Would of been a bigger loss for Brighton since De Zerbi has arguably done a better job than Potter (and they made a lot of money from it). Potter lost a lot of credibilty from the job but may still find redemption at OGC Nice. Tuchel hasn't done too well at Bayern, out of DFB cup, Out in champions league and only leading the bundesliga by 1 point. Also lost as many games in his frist 8 matches as it took Nagelsmann to lose in 1st half of the season. Chelsea are currently 11th place with Frank Lampard at the helm (sad he won't be there next season. My favourite current PL manager).
funny as soon as rodgers came in the signings got really poor. rodgers was lucky claude puel built him up a very good and very young squad to work with. look at the differences between these two managers signings calude puel singings: james maddison, johnny evans, ricardo pereira, soyuncu, youri tielemans. he also bought in chilwell and barnes into the squad. brendan rodgers signings: vestaguard, fofana, daka, james justin, castagne, soumare, wout faes, souttar, kristensen, ayoze perez. that's two decent signings out of all that lot. he was backed but for some reason chose rubbish players to come in. there's no way we'd be fighting for top 4 if he didnt have puel's signings in the first place.
Big Sam would've sabotaged himself. Any manager who lacks personality or would allow the players to extensively use their own judgement (like Ranieri) could realistically have won the league with Leicester that season
For once I agree with everything. Almost everything. I doubt Sam Allardyce would have won the league in 2016. Ranieri must have had some beneficial impact.
Leicester were flirting with the relegation zone the year after winning the league. They were playing as poorly in the PL as they were excellent in the CL.
Blackburn got relegated in about 1999 or 2000 about 4 or 5 years after they won the league so yeah I thought you'd know that. Also rodgers took lee congerton to leicester as head of recruitment, and he oversaw the signings of vestergaard, perez, daka, soumare, Bertrand, praet for £110 million. Rodgers had admired vestergaard for 3 years before signing him and then realising he actually was crap. We beat Southampton 9-0 and he decided to sign half of southamptons back 4. Rodgers is an absolute fraud.
Forest got relegated in 1993 with a squad containing Webb, Pearce, Keane, Chettle, Clough, Gemmill ----- West Ham relegated in 2003 with a squad comprising Cole, DiCannio, Ferdinand, Lampard. I guess my point is that Shit happens !
I knew LC were doomed when Schmeichel left and they just went with their backup Danny Ward like "this is fine!" Credit to ward he's made some good saves this season but he just doesnt have the leadership and presence that Schmeichel has and it ruined the ENTIRE balance this team had
The idea that Allardyce would have won the title with Leicester and Ranieri had absolutely nothing to do with it is one of the worst footballing opinions I have ever heard.
Mate, Rodgers has not been good this year, and cracks were appearing last year. I believe he came out and said that there would be a clear our, I think as an ultimatum were some other teams sniffing around him, but it totally backfired and lost half of the dressing room. Soyuncu and tielemans leaving on frees. £50+ mil plus wages and no return. Maddison worth half what he was a year ago. I think Kasper needed something different at his stage in his career, and he always had Wards back, but unfortunately has not lived up the hype. Agreed, Vardy must be laughing at his situation. He will still do a job in the championship, but must be thinking about the next few years and wouldnt be suprised if released by mutual consent if a good team comes knocking. Barnes will go. Daka and Ineanacho will go on loan or go for peanuts. Lots of transfer activity this summer!!
It's sad to see them go. I was really hoping that Leicester would stay on and continue pressing for top 10 at least. A much needed challenge to the usual "big six" to make the league more exciting.
@@thisIsFunnyLolz Lets see how Brighton do next season once they've been cherry picked by the big teams for there better players in the summer. And Newcastle have unlimited dirty oil money, so they're expected to challenge the top six.
@@KJames2345 Brighton obviously won't do as well next season simply because Chelsea and Tottenham are unlikely to suck forever but they have been very good at selling a couple of players and already having cheap replacements targeted like Estupinan. And while sure Newcastle have oil money, at least they haven't acted like City or PSG who need to spend billions to even be competitive and buy other teams' players just to bench them. Howe has done an amazing turnaround from just 18 months ago and excited to see what he does in the future.
As a Leicester fan I was never Rodgers out but there is no doubt in my mind that we are in this position due to Rodgers. He was backed for years and no signing was successful, he went against the scouting recommendations multiple times. Sorry but expectations change, your point exactly, you can’t spend more time then any club in the top four for two seasons straight and not get top 4. We where outside the top 4 for three weeks in two seasons and missed it both times, that is miss management.
As a Leicester fan who watches week in week out I know for a fact that this whole mess could have been avoided, this season has been full of mistakes from everyone from the players to Rodgers to the board, signs of a downfall were starting at the end of last season. The fact that most of the players have now given up has only put the nail in the coffin, the only players i see on the pitch give a bit of fight is kdh, Luke Thomas and Vardy, vardy fights but without service he can't do anything. The rest of the team doesn't seem to care most of them are leaving anyway so why does it matter to them?
I'll say its the owners fault. His father had a standard for Leicester after the 2016 win, That's why Ranieri and Puel had to go. But with the son he just doesn't. Rodgers should have gone last season, the squad should have been replenished in the summer and the standard should have been top 6 or nothing
Urghhhh Rodgers was backed. Also HE wanted to sign Vestergaard and Bertrand despite being told NOT TO. Also Rodgers HAD TO GO. His tactics were not working.
1:25 just look at the number of Goals Jamie Vardey scored in that run! It’s nuts amounts. Why the fall off this year? Age, Body, ‘That’ court case, miles from World Cup squad, it’s not like his providers left the club? Is it as simple as the back four can’t play without Schmicels organising voice behind them? Why did he really leave? Not only that, why did he leave and not to a club in the top 4, even top 6 leagues in the world? And why wasn’t he replaced with a Goalkeeper in goal instead of a ball boy?
I'm Leicester fan but in the last 5 years they became one of the PL teams that I enjoyed watching because of their style of play under Rodgers. When I saw their summer business I immediately realised they were probably tired of the Prem. Has to be some sort of self sabotage
Leicester should offer Vardy to Sheffield Wednesday on loan next season, let him end his career at his hometown club in a division where he might go and get 30 goals. See if Wednesday are willing to pay 40,000 a week and Leicester pay the other 100 grand :)
You’re suggest Patrick Viera? The same guy that had trouble getting Crystal Palace to score? Look what happened to Palace when they brought back old man Roy, they started to score. Just like how suggesting Sean Dyche would work for any of the struggling teams earlier in the season.
As entertaining and insightful as that was, I would love Leicester to stay up. The Prem needs as many Midland teams as possible rather than the North South dominance.😊
With large scale befalling investment yet two seasons of touching champions league places, one FA cup, one community shield and Rodgers gets the blame?
Smith couldn’t get a front three of Maupay Benhrama and Watkins out to of championship midtable, got lucky with Villa and would’ve taken them down without the ghost goal and got relegated by Norwich last season he’s a nice bloke but not a prem manager
Don't underestimate KDH and Barnes - both have been shining lights in our dark, dark season. KDH specifically was definitely underused in our final couple months
All this makes me upset as a Leicester fan, the last time I remember Leicester City being in a relegation scrap was 16/17, and that was my first season as a supporter. However no other club could entice me, club loyalty is very important. Whether we go down or stay up, Leicester will remain my passion
1:18 There wasn't even a clue that they were going to win the Premier League. Unfortunately they are one of those "has been" teams partly due to the passing of their late owner.
I don't think Irish Guy is being fair to Ranieri. Yes most of his jobs weren't successful, and I believe Nigel Pearson would probably have won the league with Leicester if he hadn't been replaced, but in the end it was Ranieri who was there for the full season. He deserves the credit for Leicester's league title.
Irish Guy, Blackburn got relegated in 1999, 4 years after they won the title. 2012 was not the first time Blackburn got relegated from the Prem trust me I know.
