Vintage buses in action together with trains at the Great Central Railway feature at the 10th Bus & Train Spectacular hosted by Leicester Transport Heritage Trust and the GCR at Quorn which for the first time took place over the whole weekend to coincide with the GCR heritage railcar weekend. Once again some superb buses from the local area and guests from further afield assembled at the station yard along with quality transport merchandise stalls and refreshments which were on sale.
The action starts with some of the late arrivals and early trips from Quorn. I travelled on 164 to Loughborugh where some buses can be seen on the 70 and 75 services. After I returned to Quorn to see buses returning from trips I travelled to Midland Station on an ex Peelings Coach where the action finishes. Thanks to everyone for all their hard work in putting on this event and to all the bus owners and volunteers.
The highlight was surely the sight of Leicester Bristol RE 122 returning to the road after a 30 year absence. Lovingly restored the bus really looked superb and it even made a number of trips to the delight of many enthusiasts. Another rare bus Napier Aircraft Company Trojan DT was also in service and proved popular. Did anyone spot the coach used in an episode of "Call The Midwife"? Let me know in the comments section or which was your favourite bus that attended.

@michaelkeen5010 Hopefully will meet up at a future event. The French school holidays were last month, so we were over in the UK too early for it. At least I got to take some photos of the electric buses in Leicester while there.

Thanks for sharing this Graham, looked like a great event this year. Unfortunately I was in the UK last month for 2 and a bit weeks, so missed it. Through your video I at least got to see the event this year! Cheers, John.

Thanks John it was another superb event and a real credit to the organisers and volunteers. Plenty of buses to see and trips. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make Sunday when the weather looked even sunnier.

@@GrahamSleath Hopefully I'll make it next year. Depends where it falls. This year I stayed on, on my own for 7 more days, staying with a friend Braunstone. I could've gone to the Delaine Event, but decided that it would be a pain to get to via train etc and wouldn't have much time. I last went there in the early 90's.

@@MegaBreadvan I did the Delaine event last year but not this year as it was so cold. They have not yet released the date for Quorn next year but they are planning another event on Saturday 27th July to celebrate a 100 years of Municipal Motorbuses in Leicester so I hope I can get to that once further details have been released.

@@GrahamSleath Reminds me of the 50 years of motorbuses book that was released in 1974. I have 2 copies, as my original bought from the Rutland Street offices was so worn and damaged through reading it so much. LOL. Would be good if a publication is done for 100 years. If I came over in July I'd have to consider the train fare and loss of work (I teach English part time and Saturday is my best day). We going away for 3 weeks in August too. Will look forward to seeing a video if you do one. 😊

Looks like you had a good time up there. I've not been for a few years now as it's harder for me to get there since I moved.

Another of your fantastic videos. Some of the buses reminded me of the times my mother used to take me to school outfitters in London, and then we would head to D.H.Evans to have lunch in the restaurant before heading to the material department . The next day, I would be taken to Paddington Station to join the school group before boarding the steam train heading to Malvern. That was 60 years ago. How time flies. Graham, the double-decker bus with the double rear wheels I haven't seen before. Who made it? How old is it and where was it in service?. Keep up the brilliant work, cheers Sarah from Tasmania.

Hi Sarah. Thank you for your lovely comments. Glad you enjoyed the video and it brought some nice memories back for you. The double-decker is CBC 921 an AEC Renown new to Leicester City as fleet number 329 in 1939 and it is a tri-axle bus. It is now preserved at the Abbey Pumping Museum in Leicester and does occasionally attend rallies. It operated in Leicester for over 19 years before being sold for preservation in 1958 to the Vintage Passenger Vehicle Society. Spent some time also at the East Anglian Transport Museum and had a number of narrow escapes from the scrap man before returning to Leicester in 1973. The Leicester Transport Heritage Trust produced an 80th anniversary booklet which you can get from their website and has the full story. Hope this helps.
