I was born in Leicester New Parks , my family left 55 years ago for the countryside , I live 7 miles away I haven't been in to town for some years , after seeing this I am shocked how it has changed so much , No Buses or Cars , my next part in life is to revisit my Home town Thank you
Lived there for 55 years, left in 2007 when the 70th mosque opened. Went back in Sept 2023, ugh, could not wait to leave, centre transformed into a 3rd world slum. All the youngsters dressed in black, taken over by immigrants and even the main shops were depressing and going down hill. Never going back. Nice to see KIngstons and the Good Earth still going though. The shires is a pathetic shopping centre compared to some of the ones in Asia.
@@clivebaxter6354 No, you playing out the failures in your life through a miserable rant on the internet is. Centre is better than most, and very clean, with low chance of trouble. Youngsters are allowed to dress in black, I’ll wager your attire was way worse. It’s not called the Shires, and hasn’t been for a long time. And we don’t want those Asian super-malls thanks, full of pointless chintz.

Born and bread in Leicester (Blaby) 1981 and it's crazy to see how much it changed. Being in the Armed Forces I have lived away a lot both in the Uk and abroad but always surprised to see changes every time i've come back. During the 1900s/2000s it was full of pubs and more so clubs and the night life was buzzing. Buses were packed on Thu, Fri and Sat with clubbers and the atmosphere was great, i mean there were always places you would find a scrap of course but you CHOOSE to go into those kinda places. Shopping was very good and was always busy with the shopping centre (which has changed it's name since i remember) and high street. However, over the years many of those pubs/bars i mentioned have closed and Leicester is a completely different "vibe" now. It's more "middle class" with pubs being replaced by wine bars and clubs being replaced by restaurants if you know what i mean. Good/bad way?.....Different. But it "looks" like the council have done a great job compared to some Cities/Towns that have completely fallen into slums . Reason why Leicester hasn't done that? 1) Only City in Leicestershire so it's more of a focal point for locals 2) Sits in the middle of England and is central to many Motoways roads (M1, M69 ect) 3) 2 great Universities that are well known and have their own dedicated areas in schooling 4) Digging up of Richard 3rd really was a turning point that sparked the transformation off and attracted tourists 5) VERY mulicultural that has had years and years to adapt and has changed the mindset 6) The council kept up with the times and seen the decline of shops so changed direction. Used to be many independent shops but look at the video and see how many are left?? Hardly any so that should tell you how it has changed and the direction Leicester took. Luckly big brand shops invested in Leicester to replace them (rightly or wrongly) unlike other cities like Stoke.

Its been called the highcross shopping since 2008, its a gem and its our main place in leicester, foss parks is nice as well,yes its got rundown bits,unemployment and poverty exists all over the place that's life, i live in a nice,area 5 miles out of the city, leicestershire is a lovely county.
The worst city on this planet - it is actually scary to walk there in the middle of the day - drugs, pathology on the streets, floods on people from around this planet, crazy people shouting. Leister is another name for fall.
