Hey guys, what a great video about a great city! I had been in Berlin until recently and hoped that you would come. Come to the western part of Germany! Please tell us about your next destinations!!
Its fun to see how you enjoy the "food-city"aspects of Leipzig even when you didnt even see 1% of all the (food) possibilities/options around the city. Thanks for this nice tour around my hometown. I loved it. I wish you all the best for your travels :)
Gose - my i can understand you trink it after your are stuffed - might help to relieve it but that stuff is special. I tend to give it away as something special from Leipzig, but always with the disclaimer to use it as a gift for people you don't like. I managed to trink 1 Gose in my life - never touched it again. Its like you are about to vomit but you start with it allready in the mouth. :) Sure I'm not a bier drinker, but since I've got the same result from a friend who is a bier enthusiast i decided the whole spectrum of judgement was covered. ;)
Gee, guys, when I saw you in that old comunist era bricks warehouse, I dreaded the Stasi (security ministry and political police during the comunist regime in Eastern Germany) to appear and get you into jail. It used to be an important university city. It's a city of contrast. Seems to be getting westerner and capitalist but not entirely yet. Lovely pastry and beers. Prosit !!!
Thanks for the insight, Mario. That reminds me of watching The Lives of Others (Das Leben der Anderen), when we learned about the Stasi back in university.
There's the Stasi-Museum in the city center which deals with the gruesome history of this secret service and surveillence of GDR-citizens. Friend of mine did renovations in a flat few years ago and he found an old bugging device behind a power outlet.
The reunification has been 30 years ago we don't have the Stasi anymore and no we aren't getting more western we are just like the rest of Germany and have been for some decades now. It's a city after all and they move faster than smaller places. Leipzig is not like the rest of Saxony either we have always been different.
My family is from Leipzig but I was born in Wiesbaden. I'm so happy to have moved to leipzig now that I'm starting Uni. Leipzig is such a beautiful city I'm glad you all had fun and thank you for sharing a part of Leipzig I haven't seen before. :)
I've lived here my entire life so I know those industrial areas all too well because I actually also live in Plagwitz it's still nice to see a foreigners perspective. I work in the old Spinnerei and the Mule is right at the entry of that complex.
I enjoy watching your beer tastings in Germany. I used to work with a veteran that was stationed in Germany during the korean war and he would talk about how much better the beer is in Germany compared to the states. He has passed away now, but if I ever make it to Germany I'll have to drink a pint for him.
I've lived in Leipzig for a while now and never really seen this side of the city. Will be definitely visiting the Mule Café. What was the name of the Wrap place you visited?
I was born in Leipzig but you gave me a new view on Plagwitz. There I was in 1978 forced to a kind of "Childs Work", which the communists called "Productive Work" to be integrated in public school system.
Great video, my mother was born in Leipzig. My grandfather was a dentist but in 1937 the family fled Germany because of Nazi politics and policies. They went to Cuba and stayed there until the communist revolution at which time they again emigrated to the US. My grandmother loved Leipzig, she was also born there and grew up there, she would tell us (her grandchildren) about her work in the fur industry and about the architecture and of course the food. I’ve never visited there but your video has peaked my interest!
We moved from the US to Leipzig a few months ago. The city is really amazing and we've been loving it here! Next time you're in the area we can show you some of our favorite spots!
@@michaausleipzig Thanks! It really is a beautiful city - and great for families too! The people here have been incredibly warm and welcoming. We're glad we chose this as our new home.
JS Bach home, Mendelssohn Schumann Grieg among others composers houses turned museums, gewandhaus orchestra, st thomas kirche church choir singing cantatas handel in nearby halle also secret police geheimnis staatspolizei or stasi
Excellent! Loved the tour of the city. And I've not been there yet! Please tell us the prices though, like you do in Argentina. Overall, top notch Audrey and Samuel quality as usual.
Ich lebe schon mein ganzes Leben lang in Leipzig. Die Stadt ist wunderschön :). Es gibt so viele wunderbare versteckte Örtchen hier. Schöne Bauten und sehr gute Essensmöglichkeiten. Ich liebe mein schönes Sachsen ❤. Es ist viel schöner als manche behaupten.
Harriet and I also spent time in Leipzig. A fun and lively city before Covid. A great youthful art scene. Talk about Foodie Heaven. We came away from Leipzig with great memories and plan to return again. Great informative vlog as always. Sending you lots of love💖💖 Harriet and Jim. Richmond, Va.
@@samuelandaudrey a little boring trivia on that one: Lerche is german for lark i.e. the sweet little song bird. And yes, originally those were sort of little meat pies with lark inside. But towards the end of the 18th century catching larks was banned and bakers from Leipzig just changed the ingredients a bit, made it a sweet pastry and only kept the distinct meat pie shape of the original. And it's very yummy nowadays! 😊
Enjoyed, but really...very annoying music. Leipzig...hmmmmmm...if only I could think of some great music associated with Leipzig that you could've used. Hmmm...
i live in Leipzig almost a year, most of the Building are clean, looks good. there are few places like this in this video, i never saw them before and they only are showing the few dirty places of leipzig
You gave an interesting insight into Leipziger life art culture. Interesting to see that part of city I've seen some typical street culture around the university and Connewitz that looked similar. Even though, an important part you've missed out completely is the Bach and Mendelssohn heritage. Listening to a concert rehearsal in the Thomas Kirche makes you feel Bach's soul being still inside. Another important part of Leipzig has to do with the Monday demonstrations that contributed to the fall of the former communist regime. There are lots of interesting places that cover up that part of history, also the Stasi-Museum.
That was it? I was hoping for a more inclusive tour of the city's historic centre. I guess you don't appreciate music or you wouldnhave visited St. Thomas Church and the tomb of JS Bach. In fact you didn't visit any churches...I guess that's because they weren't serving food. The entire thrust of your tour was food. You should take this down and reliable it as a FOOD TOUR of Leipzig period so people not interested in eating their way across Germany can give it a big skip.
So happy that you enjoyed your short stay in Leipzig. And in general, that you were able to have your journey throughout Germany before "things" got worse (as they are now...) I wish you all the best - always happy to see you here... 💖💖💖
Thank you! We were very fortunate with our timing in terms of visiting. Hoping things can improve in Germany and Europe in general. A tough spike again.
Really found the information provided in this travel guide valuable and useful Very nice video and enjoyed the content. I too also do similar travel guides on my channel. Watching videos like this really inspire me to create quality content for my audience as well. Thank you!
I am going to move out in few months of Leipzig after 8 years in this city, here is my experience as non german person. First of all the HYPE was not so present but since a fews years (2017-18) I realized a large majority of the city is SUPER ego hyped people following trends from internet but not in a good way. Even the underground places feel cringy now and kind of fakely aware. Sad because it ruins the potential of this city who's also very politicly engaged to not say too much and at the end it's also kind of just a trend. There are tons of cultures and new people from different horizons but again the melting pot don't really make you feel welcome and in 8 years a lot has changed so I can't even imagine for the truly Leipziger. It was also very difficult for me the first year to make friends because of my poor german skills and facing for the first time xenophobic behaviors, also the weather was playing a lot on me but if you are well surrounded then everything become easier (thanks Ostapotheke). Leipzig has also good points, a lot of park and very close lakes where you can relax, the city is not small but also not big so you can easily move between differents hoods. Also met some nice people during my long staying but I have to say I feel kind of relief to leave. Leipzig is ok if you are students in their 20's but definetely not suitable for everyone. At some points I was feeling so drained out just by taking a walk because people play a very weird egocentric game and that's not positive at all to not say this feeling was growning constantly. Some will say it's the big cities feelings but you can still go to larger cities and don't feel like an anomaly.
I was supposed to leave for Leipzig in approximately 40 hours. Sadly, the spiking Covid rates have postponed my trip. I miss the city. I'll try again in April. Can't wait to go back to Bayerischer Bahnhof, and Kartoffelhaus Nr. 1.
Great Video! I was born in Leipzig and i still live here. I feel very happy that you loved to stay in my hometown. The funny thing is, you showed much places i knowing very good because I worked in Plagwitz till september 2020 and I loved it to go to the backerys, restaurantes or bars turing my luch break because there are so much jummy things you can eat.
Good to see your experience of Leipzig. I too had a short time there. I thought you had a good look round and explained it well. Leipzig just has that unique vibe about it. Food looked great. Accommodation looked good also. Great to see you guys travelling again.
Oh no.... you went for the pastries and missed out on the on which is actually a speciality to Leipzig. Next time you visit get a "Leipziger Lerche" (translates to "Leipzig Lark") and enjoy. The accompanying story to that is also pretty wild.
Awesome, my appreciation of Germany is rising following you guys on this trip. The artsy town, funky room with its NSFW entrance, the food, though I would to share that cinnamon bun with at least two people, that awesome train station. Looking forward to Berlin.
Another great video and the price for the place you guys stayed in was really affordable. Another place that I think my wife and I will def stay at. I've recently taken a job here in the city we are living at - working in a cheese shop/bar. I've been learning all about cheeses and how to cut and make scrumptious cheese dishes and will be taking over the bar after American Thanksgiving. Not sure how long we shall be here but if you are in the KC area let me know. One day my wife and I shall go out into the world again and do roving again...right now we are still on hold for that but are staying productive all the same. Again enjoyed the latest video!
So excited! Here to drop my son to university and looking forward to following in your footsteps to eat!!! Been here 3 days and i am very much liking it!
Good to see you back with another tour of Germany 🇩🇪. Cheers 🍻to you, as I see you sampling that wonderful beer 🍺. Got to love the cinnamon buns, and looks like you enjoyed the other food too. Safe trip to Berlin.
Food in Leipzig? Except ponpoco ( Japanese take out) the rest is so overratted and overpriced! if you think the food scène of LE is good please travel a little😂
You were SO close to my hometown - HALLE. Just west of Leipzig. Loved seeing everything you had about Leipzig though as I have not been home in Germany in over 20 years. THANK YOU ♥♥♥
@@samuelandaudrey well ... RB Leipzig have maneged to become Leipzigs top football club in VERY short time with huge amounts of money from Red Bull. Not everyone liked that as it goes against what traditionalists arguing that just buying success goes agains the heart and soul of football. If you want it a little more down to earth and tradition, pay a visit to Chemie Leipzig, a small working class club basicly run by their fans...
Completo mi comentario ¡¡ Excelentes imàgenes y comentarios en los videos de Alemania¡¡ Nos ayudan a viajar con Uds dado que estamos con dificultades para ello en Argentina. Gracias amigos¡¡
Hi Folks... We just recently found your channel and are enjoying the videos. It would be a big bonus to caption your meal prices and entry fees as we all know these costs can vary widely from country to country. Thanks and keep up the great work!
@@samuelandaudrey Thanks so much. After watching your Austrian ventures last night that included meal prices, I had to check my smart speaker to see if you were listening! 🤣🤣🤣

Thank You so much for sharing!! Excellent content. Am currently talking to a man from Leipzig. I am from Detroit, and thanks to your video, I see our cities have lots in common!!!
Love your content! It's been super helpful. I'm heading to Leipzig in July/August and wondering if you have any recommendations for quieter, nature-connected neighborhoods with good transport links for accommodation? Any advice would be awesome!
So happy to see you visiting my home town❤️❤️ I‘m vietnamese but I didn‘t visit the vietnamese spot yet - I will go there soon for sure😁😁 looks so delicious!
