During our last trip to Northumberland. Our battery level on the leisure battery just kept going down and down. Even after additional miles to St Abbs the battery failed to take any charge and continued to drain away. By the time we arrived home, we were showing around 5 volts. A couple of weeks later it's completely dead. So in this video, I check the amps from the split charger to check that it works, which it did... now, I need a new battery.
So after a few conversations with one of my channel members,
I have located the problem. It turned out to be a bad earth on
the Split Charge Relay.
I still have a new battery getting delivered so I'm going to
piggyback this to the current one.
Massive shout-out to / @hudsonvanlife

I can't believe that a bad earth caused so much of a problem. The worst thing was having warm beer on the hottest day of the year!

Puzzled. Normally check voltage first. Aldi and Lidl was selling a checker for £10. Glad it's all ok. I can do a short video on the tester if you want me to do. Cheers from old George

Hi George, We have a volt reader built into the switches that just showed the volts going down as we carried on with the trip, so knew it wasn't charging as it should. I used a cheap volt meter today to track down the fault. It's the first time I've had to use one but I could clearly see where the current stopped so managed to get sorted. I still have a new battery being delivered so going to have the two of them on the go moving forward. Thanks for the offer of a demo video, definitely worth doing if you have the time, I'm hopefully sorted, but I'm sure it will help many others and be a good reference for me in the future 😜

Hi you shouldn't piggy back a new battery to an older battery they should both be the same age and ahs. Im no expert but this is what I have read on other channels. Hope you get it all sorted before your next trip. - Tony.

Hi, thank you for your comment. I had read the same about piggybacking off an older battery. But once I had fixed the bad earth causing the initial issues my original battery seemed spot on. I had read somewhere that if you piggyback it the way I have ie an old battery then the new instead of new to the old it should be fine. It seems to be doing fine at the moment. The test will come on our next adventure to the Isle of Skye.
