You guys NEED to get Virtual Riot in the studio! Love you guys!😘lol
@AugnierCalyenin
@AugnierCalyenin Год назад
I don't think that will be necessary. VR will do his Studio Time sessions again next year and he has a whole list of things he wants to address. Check out his latest video on his own channel where you can see everything he will be going in depth with, which is basically every single thing you can think of about dubstep music production

This is REAL expert mixing advice that is actually applicable to the (non traditional) niche of bass music mixing. Thanks boss!

Damn. Us bass producers are more engineers than musicians... Very insightful though! Lektrique is the perfect guy to have come on and be able to show us what he does and explain it perfectly through and through. Ass or gas? Shits gas my dude.

I wish someone would have explained how to use mid-side eq and SPAN like this a decade ago... could have made this a lot easier for all of us if we knew how and why to do these things. I found another video on here about a year ago about this process and I've been keeping my mid-side situation in check like this ever since. Another thing I've noticed from working this way was a lot of times when something sounds "harsh"... it's actually the side channels being too loud in the upper mids through the highs. Tl/dr... if something sounds harsh, you probably only have to roll off the highs on the sides and you can leave the mids alone, or even boost to compensate. Game changing information.

If you are looking for something similar to wave candy, check out mini meters. It is a $10 plug in. It has a comparable spectrogram. It also have a oscilloscope, spectrum and a couple other things. I mostly just use it for the spectrogram

You can buy Wave Candy as a VST to use in Ableton from blackoctopus-sound. It's included in the Juice Pack. It used to be available on the IL website but for some reason they stopped selling it as a VST.

Yo XLNT, you should check out the minimeters plug-in suite. They have a spectrogram visualizer built in, and it is only 15 bucks. Y’all can probably afford izotype insight but for many others minimeters is probably the best choice

Came for some quick tips and cheats. Left with a doctorates in FL tools I forget I have constantly, a better understanding and appreciation of the tools I actually use regularly and take for granted, a superiority complex after watching the sad "does this come stock?" questions on numerous occasions and a greater respect for a dude that just happened to randomly appear on my 'Discover Weekly' Spotify this week. So 2 questions I have: 1) Sound Pack collab with Lektrique in the near future? Hint hint nudge nudge. 2) Possibly more FL content?

BTW you can change all of the settings in Insight to 2D to make it look a lot like wavecandy but it lacks a sensitivity setting unless I missed it. Also, in SPAN, if you click settings and set the Smoothing to 1/3 octaves, you can see the "trend" rather than the peaks.

What's happening with those star patterns is called Moiré lol and it's the pattern generated due to being out of phase, but it literally has nothing to do with the sound and only the visual patterns of 2 sign waves overlapping each other. I think what's going on with this dude is that he was put on a pedestal (so to say) and he feels like he needs to have an answer for everything so goes with what "sounds" best lol.

I do not disrespect you, you make good music BUT I stopped watching the video when you said flatter frequency response = translation. Nobody should aim for a flat response, aiming for a flat frequency response literally makes 0 sense. I used to think like this when I lacked knowledge, I genuinely thought it should be flat to sound good. This is absurd.
@gulagwarlord
@gulagwarlord Год назад
Aiming for a flat frequency response makes perfect sense if you want something ridiculously loud like a wall of sound... which is sort of the hallmark of these genres. It still applies to quieter genres but not as much. We are basically recreating the Fletcher Munson Equal Loudness curve with dubstep basses... quite literally.
