@@TheTomatoWatcher heh no problem. Even though they don't really use OPL2, they use the soundcard you'd put in that has an OPL2, like AdLib, Soundblaster, etc. Though I know what you mean. Also how'd you even manage to find that demo disk? I found them hard to track down.

That Genesis version just blows me away every time! The Acorn Archimedes and SNES did a good job with this game's soundtrack as well; so many other versions sound weak when they were on hardware that was capable of a lot more.

The Mega Drive (Genesis) version is still my absolute favourite of these.

Standout takes on this tune IMO are Master System/Game Gear, Commodore 64, PC Engine CD and Mega Drive. btw your Master System uploads are at the wrong speed (too fast). This can be verified with the Game Gear version which plays the music at the expected speed that the Master System should be (50 Hz). Also being emulation, some uploads such as Master System, Game Gear or Mega Drive don't sound as good as they would on real hardwares. Also you should precise in the description that it's PC Engine *CD* (and actually there's no TurboGrafx-CD version since this version of the game was only released in Japan). Anyway and despite these few criticisms, thanx for these videos! As a huge Lemmings fan, it's nice to be able to listen to the numerous existing versions :)

The PS1 version is the version I grew up most on, thanks to the fact it was on one of the demo discs for the PlayStation. I still play it through the wonders of emulation

Amazing how they managed to get Lemmings (a 1994 game) on the C64 (a 1982 system)
@CountScarlioni
@CountScarlioni 6 лет назад
Lemmings was a 1991 game made originally for 1987 hardware (the Amiga 500). But otherwise I agree, that so many functional 8 bit ports of the game were made is testament to some very dedicated conversion work. The c64 version is pretty playable and has some awesome SID chip music.

Tell that to PS4 and PS5; there are no Lemming games! I am aware they ported to Android and iPhone but I don’t like them in general

Just listened to the whole vid', nice even if some versions are poorly emulated like the Lynx one :( anyway here are my fav' : - C64 - Master System / Game Gear (especially great after the intro) - Apple II - PC Engine CD (wasn't released overseas) - Mega Drive

SNES and Windows 95 (v1) is the ones I'm most used to, and therefore my favourites. That said, I must say Mega Drive was really good. I always give credits where I think it is due.

PC (demo) (version #1) - what... the... hell...? PC (demo) (version #2) - *see PC (version #1)* but its faster NES - actually good CPC - rather depressing Lynx - *see CPC version* ST - pitch-bending GB - slightly improved NES version Arcade - a lot closer to the original, classical composition than other versions PC-98 - sounds like it just wants to get the song over with x68000 - *see PC-98 version* SMS - sounds nice, but the loop is way too long for its own good GG - *see SMS version* AdLib - instruments can be a little harsh Tandy - not much to say IIGS - nice and calm SNES - a little odd, but alright C64 - a really nice beat PS1 - sounds nice, but it feels a bit empty Win95 (version #1) - *see PS1 version* Win95 (version #2) - sounds a lot fuller PC-Engine/TG-16 - light and airy Mac II - echo is obvious here MD/Gen - a much more balanced PC-Engine/TG-16 version Archimedes - a very interesting take on the song PSP - *see Arcade version* 3DO/CD-i/CD-ROM - the horns are a bit harsh FM Towns - clever use of horn ensemble samples makes it sound less empty Amiga - *see FM Towns version* My list: PC (demo) #2 PC (demo) #1 Lynx ST PC-98 x68000 CPC NES GB SNES SMS GG Tandy AdLib PS1 Win95 #1 Mac II PC-E/TG-16 3DO/CD-i/CD-ROM MD/Gen FM Towns Amiga C64 Archimedes Win95 #2 Arcade PSP

There was an actual Windows version? I didn't know that. I have a CD version by GT Interactive I got as a present in the mid-90s but it is literally the DOS (floppy) version reprinted on CD. (I recall the copy-protection check even still said to put the disk in drive A :D )

@TheTomatoWatcher
@TheTomatoWatcher 6 лет назад
In fact, the Mac II, FM Towns, and Amiga versions literally use the exact same samples, with the FM Towns's being pitch-shifted down half a step relative to the Amiga's, and the Mac II's being handled only slightly differently than the Amiga's.
