I grew up in Hammond and always loved me some lemon rice soup from Munster. I’m in Alabama now though. Spent a lot of time in East Chicago with my Dad and grandmother. Great recipe and video. Thanks for sharing.
@@BKCCooks - She liked it, but I cheated. I'm an on-hand chef, and we only had jasmine rice, boneless breasts, and one little lemon. It still thickened up nicely but needed a little Realemon to her taste. Thanks, and subbed! 👍
Hey, another Hammond boy, here. Moved out of NWI area a few years ago, and was recently craving lemon rice soup (from the Commander in Munster), so I thought I'd look for a recipe here on RU-vid. Thanks for thre great vid, I'll definitely be making this soon!
Looks delicious. You should try adding maybe 5 cloves of chopped garlic to the soup pot when you add the eggs and lemon. And at the very end you should add chopped green onions, maybe two bunches. They are more like a garnish for the bowl.
Love that shoutout to NWI. I am a Valparaiso resident. I don't understand why but everyone up here likes this soup, including my wife, but today I will be making some and trying it. Thanks for sharing brother!
As a Canadian I”m a Greek cuisine addict.. I just love Lemon Greek soup.. I couldn’t get it to thicken well so can I just use some cornstarch. Thank you..
Wowowow I'm also from northwest Indiana and it's true. The best family owned diners do have LRS ♡ I moved to Bloomington and can't find it anywhere. Never found it in stores. Grateful for this video!
This soup looks like a keeper, love the carmelized onions, & the extra flavor of boulion added at a certain time, & the added zest & parseley at end thx Big Time Chef
Greetings from Bangalore. Last night I made a slightly different version of this soup, in that I used broken barley instead of rice. I also added few finely chopped vegetables to top the soup. It was a trial and error experiment as I hadn't seen this video till now, but the process was close to your lemon rice soup and it came out very well. After seeing your video I understand that partly the soup was so tasty because of the starch barley. And your video gives me confidence to make it again. Thank you for a very nicely explained recipe.
I just stumbled across your recipe for lemon rice soup. I plant doing making it. I live in Indiana. And I haven't gotten the chance due to the pandemic to get to a restaurant here in Fort Wayne to get me some so wish me luck
Im from Michigan and i have to drive 45 minutes to this one middleastern diner to get it. But its definitely worth it, im making it tonight for my family but i will be tweaking it because I hate onions eew.
This is a greek original soup, or so they say. If you want to make it creamier you can wisk the whites separate and then mix them with the yolks and lemon juice.
One of the best soups. Your recipe has a lot of changes from original avgolemono soup. But I guess it’s personal touch. Looks yummy. Thank you for the recipe. Do not slurp…
there used to be this place called Broadway cafe and they had such good lemon rice soup but it closed down a few years ago bc the owner died :[ i love lemon rice soup though
Broadway cafe did make some of the best Lemon Rice Soup. They would always sell us a gallon to go if we asked. I have been craving this for years..live in KY now and I do not think any good soups exists here. Great Video. Do all stores sell that kind of rice?
