I made this cake and it is phenomenal! My first time baking a cake so I was a little nervous but it turned out great. Super moist, soft and pillowy, and perfect lemon flavor- not too much and not too little! It tasted even better the next day 😍 10/10

@@basmarhanny2161 if you are asking what buttermilk is, it’s traditionally milk fermented by the increased lactic acid in the milk left over from churning butter. Now it’s made in factories and you can find it in the grocery store. Next to regular milk. It’s a little more sour than regular milk. The old folks used to call regular milk, ‘sweet milk’, to differentiate between the two.

I made this Thursday for Thanksgiving and it was a hit. Even my niece and nephew who don't eat cake (IDK where these children come from) loved it. Thanks again. Happy Holidays to you and your family. I feel like any flavor can be velvet. Velvet is the texture which is produced by acidic ingredients (buttermilk or vinegar) and baking soda.

I can't wait to get my hands on some meyer lemons so I can make this. I swap out oil with unsweetened applesauce. It keeps the moisture in but lowers the fat content.

Omggg my mouth is watering 🤤 Question - what is the difference in this case between butter flavored shortening and just butter? And are they interchangeable? I've never used shortening.

Shortening is hydrogenated vegetable oil. Butter (well real butter) is usually just cream and salt. I think shortening makes things fluffier
