Childish is bad?

I spent a good deal of the 70s and 80s working on PRV's in Volvos. A better engine than a lot of people would think, reliability wise. Only engine I've ever seen that could still run on three cylinders after breaking a timing chain. (If you know, you know. 🙂 ) P.S. Just curious, what were these guys running for a fuel delivery system?

@@jdunlap2 It is a completely stock electric fuel-injection setup with an automatic on a 1990. They have touched NOTHING under the hood except changing the oil; they didn't know ANYTHING about the engine when they got the car. Just slapped the safety gear in it and sent it. The first PRV lasted maybe 4 races and they just went to a junkyard and found another one. It's not fast, but it's about 13 races in with just oil changes. No joke, I have no idea why more people aren't running these in Lemons other than they're hard to find. And a PRV was the first (and only) engine to power a car to 400 kph on the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans before they added the chicanes. The Delorean PRV's primary problem was crappy mechanical fuel injection, also. That's pretty well documented, but it's hard to shoehorn that in without totally derailing the segment. Delorean people seem mostly to rig up a carb for these engines now or they find the Eagle Premier/Dodge Monaco 3.0L and run that EFI setup. At least that's what a Delorean guy told me, though his still had the mechanical FI setup, so who knows?

@@jdunlap2 My Citroen/PUG guy likes em too. The problem was that they were usually compared to very proven pig iron 4-cylinders (both in Volvos and Peugeots) that were very mature and usually driven by people who drive like geriatric undertakers. To be fair I don't think it's a million mile engine, it's built very light in places, but there is nothing fundamentally wrong with it, esp. for the time. It just got choked by emissions, the 70s were not the time for the high output approach, esp. in the US.

@@stephenboshears4832 yeah, our poor Diesel Jetta lost a wheel and was the last car in the parade on the final day while being towed. We had to ask track officials to get us our wheel

I think it's like RV's or bass boats....once you have one, they seem to attract every similar one within hundreds of miles. Before you know it, you have a yard full.
