RIP MISS LENA! I'm only 20 years old and I've heard of her before. My generations musicality is wack! I love her personality in these interviews.

Ok. I think I want to chime in on this one. As a HUGE Judy fan and a HUGE Lena fan, I really think Lena does this better--it's simply her signature song. But all the greats have their signature song. NO ONE does "The Man That Got Away" better than Judy--that's her signature song and she does that one the best. Bottom line is: these women are two of a kind and we all love them both!

Lena sang standards, but put a jazz flare w/it. She was amazingly talented that she could sing any style of music - jazz, blues, standards, soul or gospel. R.I.P.

Cason and Horne had a great rapport. It’s evident in the interview. His admiration for her as a person and entertainer comes across as genuine and heartfelt.

It's not the voice, it's her interpretation of the song. Her man is gone, she's feeling it....this is her expression in lyrical format

When one thinks of the song Stormy Weather, one thinks of Lena Horne...It's hers!...She owns it! Judy Garland couldn't carry that song across your room!

No need to knock Judy down to build Lena up. They are both in that very small group that deserve to be called The Greatest Entertainers of All Time.

Hi Guys! I've read most of the commentary and I plan on signing up with the FIRST internet fan club i can .The year was 1998 and I was at some bodies 99 cent store and low and behold I found this 'cassette' of Lena Horne music . It fell apart 21 days later from My playing it 24/7. WHHYYY my local jazz station never played it I'll never comprehend. Yet the one woman Broadway show certainly proved she was indeed a JAZZ SINGER!
@Swampzoid

she's not one of my favorites however it's obvious that this woman has a great gift for singing. i'd be a fool not to recognize that.

@lenahorneclub If someone says to you, "I just love that song Stormy Weather." I seriously doubt that they're speaking of the version by Ethel Waters or Frank Sinatra... Whether Lena likes the song or not, it is her signature song...And that was my whole point in the original comment. Judy Garland was a wonderful performer, but when it comes to Stormy Weather- she should really get out of the rain...and look for the rainbow

@eric9590 Yes, but you and EVERYONE must know what was not covered in the obits -- after movies, Lena became one of the top nighclub headliners in the world. She was up there with Sinatra, Elvis, Dean Martin -- there was nobody bigger for THREE DECADES. This was the peak of her career why wasn't it covered by the news? They don't like it that she was sooo successful and want her to always be the victim of? That does her a disservice.

@lenahorneclub lol i was looking that up i don't think Ethel and her were arch enemy's as it was just Ethel being a bit envious of a younger more attractive actress taking her spotlight but Ethel was amazing and i think we all would be a bit mad if some1 cast a shadow over us

It seems like a lot of people confuse "jazz singers" with "singers of standards." I've noticed that Lena is often grouped together with other pop singers like Tony Bennett and Rosemary Clooney and they're all branded as "jazz" singers. I wonder what causes this confusion?

Stormy weather belongs to LENA! Certain songs just belong to certain artist, Patti Labelle could sing circles around Judy Garland but Someday over the rainbow belongs to JUDY!

@lenahorneclub But she was definitely influenced by jazz tho. And her 90s albums for Blue Note were probably the closest she ever came to being a jazz singer.

@carmenjones411 Ethel Waters -- Lena's arch enemy aside from Sinatra -- introduced "Stormy Weather' -- Lena does not like the song 1 sec ago

@leplaq Ethel didn't get along with many people within her own age or younger then her. She was the first diva back then and the first famous bitch in show business. Ethel was great but she was something else. She insulted Billie Holiday and Valaida Snow too.
