I have this computer. I bought it on sale and it's probably one of the best purchases I have ever made. I like to travel alot and the small form factor is nice for portability. I tend to "one bag" my trips and it's nice that it takes virtually no space in my bag. There is a slight lack of pen support, but the Lazarite Pen M works perfectly on this. Swap out the pen battery with a rechargeable battery and your good to go. Galaxy S8 Plus Tab screen protectors fit on this display. I use the supershields non-glass and it works great with the pen. The bluetooth keyboard is awesome and comfortable enough to do homework/work on. It's nice to be able to plug the tablet to a tv and lay in bed with the functional backlit keyboard. That makes Netflix on the go a treat. Excel runs well on this machine even with the 8gbs. If you are tech savvy, then you can enable advance power options and tweak the battery settings and fan settings to extend your battery life. I get 11hrs consistent unplugged on both tablet mode and with bluetooth on with certain power adjustments. The fan is quiet when you change from active to passive and the heat is nonexistent if you upgrade the thermal paste. Upgradability is easy since the screen is just held by a few screws and clips. Add thermal pads instead of paste on both the ssd and cpu. I would even suggest going the extra mile and add a slim copper heatsink to the ssd if you're adding the thermals pads. There's enough space for a slim one. Do that and your fan will virtually never turn on lol. The ram is not upgradable. I would upgrade both the ssd and wifi cards if you decide to crack the machine open. This is not a gaming machine so don't expect to do that. Overall, I love this machine for travel! Anything I need to do requiring more power I have a separate non tablet machine for that with the proper specs. This is for homework, media, non-enterprise business and non-creative intensive work.

Great review, thank you for that. I'm in the market because my tablet battery just gave up, and my laptop at 4 years old is nearing the end of it's life. I've been debating a Surface thinking it could replace both devices, and after your review I found a duet 5 on sale for $529. I bought it, and after living with it for a little over a week have decided to return it. I thought I would share my experience here. When I use a laptop instead of a tablet, I typically use it for productivity on our porch or in the living room where I don't have a table or flat surface to rest it on, or when traveling where you need some stability. The keyboard arrangement doesn't suit any of those uses very well, so unless I have something appropriate to set it on it's not very useful when on the move. From a performance standpoint my 4 year old laptop outperforms it by a wide margin, even though that device is only a very basic i3 with similar storage capacity. I expected better from a modern gen device. The fan on this is constantly running, and perhaps I got a bad one, but it's quite loud. This has a nicer display, but I found myself going back to my current laptop within a day or two. When I use a tablet, it's mostly for content consumption and web browsing. This device is a little too large and heavy to make an ideal tablet replacement. I have no experience with the Microsoft Surface devices, and did not appreciate how terrible Windows is as a tablet OS. Something as simple as double clicking a desktop shortcut takes zero thought with a mouse, but on a touch screen makes the interface feel clunky and out dated. Nothing is sized correctly in my opinion for tablet style usage, and Windows lacks the smoothness of a tablet specific OS when using gestures or switching between apps. The touch screen keyboard takes up too much of the display to be useful, I suppose because they try to imitate the size of a true laptop style keyboard. I spent most of my time with it attempting to get used to it for that use case, without success. Many of my complaints with this device probably stem from the fact that, as I mentioned previously, I have no experience with the Surface and I was expecting too much. I probably could have found work arounds for the form factor, and the screen I think is quite beautiful. The speakers sound good for what they are, and overall the device was responsive and I quite like the design. For me though it didn't do a good enough job for either use case to replace the two devices I currently have. I'm going to return it and probably go with a Lenovo Tab 11 pro G2 for a tablet, then start saving for a new laptop around Black Friday 2023.
@AndroidDigest
@AndroidDigest Год назад
Yeah I think that's best for you. When you get one device to try to do both things you're going to have compromises. Personally I got really good performance out of this device and this i3 does outperform previous i3s, especially with benchmarks. It's possible that's in programs you are running to better on Windows 10 or something 🤷‍♂️. Either way, I think you are 100% dead on with Windows as a tablet. I definitely prefer using an Android tablet and I know a lot of people would prefer using an iPad over windows for tablet usage. There are workarounds to make it a better tablet experience but it's still not going to be as good as a Android tablet or an iPad. And as a laptop it won't be a sturdy on your lap like you said. So it's not quite as good as a laptop at laptop stuff and it's not quite as good as a tablet for tablet stuff, but it can still do a good job at both. For some people it's much better to get something like the P11 Pro Gen 2 and a separate laptop. You may pay a little more, but you can get the best of both worlds and just not worry about it. And laptops are a little more repairable if needed. So in your case I think you made a good choice for you. Thanks for sharing your experiences with my audience

Normally, a new Windows will take a day or two to complete all kinds of update, and the device will be hot. After that, I will be back to normal. Well. Yeah, for most users, Windows tablet is useless. For entaintainment, go for Andriod or Ios tablet. For productivity, use a taptop. For, this Win11 "tabtop", I still feel a bit useful when moving around or connect to a big screen tv and work as a desktop, on the condition that using it only as a second device with cloud setup.

@cameronfrye5514 Год назад
@@user-gw8wz8ss6j I ran it for a good week, just never quite got to where I was happy with it. It doesn't have the power to replace even my out of date laptop, and as I mentioned I don't think Windows 11 is a good tablet OS. Eventually I found an open box deal on a Tab S8+, and with the addition of a keyboard cover is capable of everything the Lenovo reviewed here can do, but when you remove the keyboard it's back to being an excellent tablet. Opinions and use cases will vary, but for me the full fat tablet was the better choice.

@@cameronfrye5514 True, Win OS is not for tablet. For productivity and for entertainment, so far, I tried different device, ipad pro 12.9, 11.5, air, mini, and all kinds of Andriod tablet in different size (7",10.1", 10.9",11.5",13"). My laptop is Surface Book3 15" (detachable as tablet). None of them can serve both productivity and entertainment in one. Tablets are just toys. If for work, buy a good laptop.

Best buy has openbox excellent for $509, $90 off the regular price. That's not terrible. The last thing I need is another two in one tablet with the detachable keyboard. I already have a surface pro 7, the tab S7 and the Lenovo duet. But I'm obviously a fan of this form factor.

I honestly think the speakers are pretty good. I haven't tried the speakers of the Surface pro 8 admittedly but with a lot of tablets I've tried I would say these are definitely pretty solid. Thank you for your review. To begin with the holiday season just ended. Also, I find all the still supported Surface tablets and laptops over priced. So for me this Lenovo tablet has just about everything I'm looking for at the right (discounted) price. But the real competition for my money comes from Apple's new 10.2 Ipad, latest edition. These Ipads are solidly built and offer exactly what I want, perhaps at a slightly higher price than I actually want to pay. Which one will I buy? Stay tuned.....!

I would just look on amazon.. there might be a couple but I think it's going to be very hard to find cases for it. Most people will just leave the keyboard attached and close it to protect the screen. And if you want to protect it when you carry it around you could always get a laptop sleeve or something like that. But I don't think there will be a huge market for cases for it

Hi, can this be charged with a regular android phone USB-C charger, or does it have to be it's own charger? Thanks!
@AndroidDigest
@AndroidDigest Год назад
I can't remember honestly. An Android charger wouldn't have enough power to keep it charging though. In most cases. You are normally going to need a 45w charger at least, other chargers may keep it steady without increasing the charge. But I can't say for sure since I don't have it here with me to test. I've just tried to fill my house with 60w laptop chargers and then I use them on my phones 😂. That's a safe bet. But I can't be 100% on how well the phone charger will work. Part of it will depend on the wattage. Most phone chargers are 20w or less. So it may slow charge it when you're not using it
@jorgeantema7573
@jorgeantema7573 Год назад
Thanks for the reply! My house is filled with regular 25w phone chargers so I was hoping that would work out haha.. anyway, I just ended up ordering a Surface Go 3, will see how I like it. Cheers!

The Surface Pro actually has the 11th generation processor. So technically it's a slower processor. On the other hand, you can upgrade the storage pretty easily if you are really techy. On the plus side for the Lenovo, the keyboard can actually work apart from the tablet via Bluetooth. Honestly, if you were deciding between them, you can't really go wrong. And if Best Buy does sell them open box, you could always buy one in excellent condition. And honestly there's a high probability that there's nothing wrong with it. But that's a good way to save little extra money if you see that option. Anyway. I know this may not be a ton of extra help, but it's a very very close call. Microsoft has that ability to add a little bit of extra storage in the future, and they have a little bit of a better typing angle on the keyboard. The Lenovo has a keyboard you can detach and use with Bluetooth, and it has a little bit of a faster processor, technically since it's the 12th gen. Outside of that, I don't think you'll see a lot of significant differences. Hopefully this helps some

@AndroidDigest
@AndroidDigest Год назад
There is a Lenovo Duet 5, which is a Chromebook with a Snapdragon 7c processor. It's much slower than the 5i. But it's a completely different thing. It runs on Chrome OS, and it's still pretty fast for what it does, but it can't do half of what the 5i can do. But it also runs Android apps on the Duet 5, so that's a big benefit. It depends on if you want a Chromebook or if you want a Windows tablet/laptop. Overall I think the 5i is better, but you may find the 5 for cheaper.
