Thank you very much! I had no idea that there was an empty drive bay inside and that it was this easy to open the case. I upgraded my S340 two days ago and it was really worth it. Now I have 20 GByte RAM and almost 500 GByte empty SDD space!
@@dish_81 if you have the S340 then the 256 GByte which you have is the small M2-drive in the upper right corner. What I did was to add a standard 2.5-inch SDD of 512 GByte in the empty bay. This gives me two separate drives which I am completely happy with - it's much easier than trying to swap out the existing drive because you would have to reinstall the complete system, all your software, ...
I take it from this you have added a 16gb ram stick? what specs did you use? The official line from Lenovo is that this only supports up to 8gb, so i'm hesitant to try the upgrade. can you confirm it works ok?
@@fsaavedrap there are several sites on the net pointing out that the board is capable of 36 GByte total in the form of 1pcs 32 GByte plus the built-in 4 GByte. I used a "standard" 16 GByte unbuffered 1,2 V 260-pin SODIMM DDR4 2666 MHz and it works absolutely stable, no problems.
Than,k you so much for this - just upgraded the RAM on my Ideapad S340 15" model to max 20GB and put in a second 500GB SSD - wouldn't have known there was even space for it if I hadn't seen this video. The one thing I also learned is you do need to disconnect the battery, otherwise the laptop won't power back on at all for some reason!
Battery connector was very difficult and wasn't going to risk damage going by experience of fixing other people's mobiles for 5 years, but got my RAM in duel channel now thanks to this.
Thank you so much I just finished installing the ram because of this video. I was actually able to remove the battery connector without removing the battery too.
Thank you! This was quite helpful. Funny that the HW manual indicates that all of the exterior screws are Phillips and not Torx. I was unable to remove the battery screws as they were too tight and I was afraid of stripping them. I also could not just unplug the battery from the board so I left it while I did my memory upgrade which went without a hitch.
thank you! i'm trying to upgrade this laptop of mine which has become annoyingly slow in the past months and this video has helped me understand it better and quicker than the dozen articles and sites i've visited prior :D have a nice day!
Sweet! I just came out of warranty and upgraded my S340 to 2 x 1TB ssd's and 20GB Ram! (Don't order your ram direct from Crucial if you don't live in their country though! Took them 1 month to deliver a stick of ram?!?) Thanks for your great video, made the job really easy to do.
@@Innocentstuff it's got the Ryzen 7 3700u quad core in it. The Ram and the ssd's have made a world of difference. I can now run Adobe Photoshop and Premiere and Vectric vCarve pro with no out of memory messages
@@revbradl There was really no need to edit it! It was an entirely fair comment - I have a bad habit of letting my nails grow too long between trims, and if it detracts from the videos I should take the time to do it. So thank you for editing, but you really didn't need to, and you had no need to apologise.
Will I be able to upgrade my gpu....to be more precise, to mx250 because in some online sites I found that some of its versions come with a dedicated mx250
Hi Sam, even though Lenovo officially recommends to install only 8GB to get 12GB Max in total on their support website (It seems to be a misunderstanding on their end) After watching this great video and doing some research by my own, I was able to install 16GB SODIMM DDR4 PC4-2666V Mhz-SE1-11 Samsung memory stick without a problem (My Lenovo Ideapad S340 14” Ryzen 7 came with 4GB DDR4 PC4-2666VMhz-SCO-11 Ramaxel). As a matter of fact, I'm writing you from my upgraded laptop at this very moment. Hope this information could it help for you too. Cheers from Colombia.
@@OKADAVID Thank's for your information, but it's too late. I didn't bought this model because of unknown memory aspects. I don't understand manufacturers who sells notebooks with RYZEN processors with 4 GB in single channel
@@OKADAVID hello, how is it working now your laptop a year after? I'm thinking of buying a 16 GB instead of a 8 GB, I'll appreciate your answer, thanks!❤️
Hi@@laaventuradeeclypsa , is still working great, not a single issue to report after a year of daily use. I would recommend to make sure you get the proper reference of the SODIMM DDR4 memory card that runs nicely on your laptop. Besides of that, wishing you all the best.
Many thanks for this video. I managed to replace the SSD as demonstrated. However, it won't boot and I get an error message that says "Default Boot Device Missing". Is there a way of copying the boot info to another part of the storage that isn't being replaced?
This is super helpful, thanks - to be clear, the related parts you've listed and linked are all I'd need to do this? i.e. no extra cables or bracket for the SSD, nothing extra for any RAM I want to add, no extra screwdrivers needed? Thanks!
Why you removed the ssd slot one which has the warranty sticker on and returned back, I followed your steps I upgraded the ram and I added ssd drive of 512gb and after I switched on the laptop it did displayed a blank black screen what probably went wrong with me, somebody told me your bois io chip damaged
Hello. I have a problem, and well I hope someone can help me. I have an IdeaPad S340 14API with 4GB of onboard RAM and AMD Ryzen 5 3500U Processor. I recently installed an 8 GB RAM with a frequency of 2400 MHz (which is the compatible frequency) and since then the equipment has not worked normally. Every while when the pc is going to start, the screen turns off and another starts and so on until the OS is able to start. Other times when it is running and I do a process that consumes RAM, the OS stops (I get a blue screen with a sad face :() and restarts, or sometimes the screen goes black and freezes. The fan does not work normally , sometimes it does not start. Can someone please guide me what may be happening. Thank you very much and excellent video. An extra fact is that I did not put the metal plate that covers the slot.
Hy man, thank you for the tutorials. What about the Type C port, i heard that it doesn't support charging but it would support a dongle with ethernet, hdmi and some other basic ports?
That's correct for the USA (www.ftc.gov/news-events/press-releases/2018/04/ftc-staff-warns-companies-it-illegal-condition-warranty-coverage), but it may be enforceable elsewhere.
hi can you tell me where i can find what ram is compatible with this laptop? I have the same one and I read that it can take up to 16gb more of memory for a total of 20GB of ram. but im having difficulty figuring out what is best compatible.

can i add additional SSD drive and have two hard drives in my laptop? I want to have a second SSD drive just like we can have multiple drives in a desktop machine. Also I am wondering why do we have to disconnect battery in order to add an additional SSD drive? Can I not leave that intact? Thanks.
great video, I added a second HDD to the empty spot.. but when I sapped out my 4GB ram stick for 16GB the laptop wont boot... if I remove the ram from that slot altogether it boots fine.. if I place the 4GB stock ram back it still wont boot... did I break the ram slot?
Whoever was in my computer before me, used double-sided tape on the battery and soldered the wires straight onto the motherboard..... 😆😆😆 So I must say I didn't have that option to remove the battery, I mean I got it used at a low price but oh my lol
a while back i lost 2 bottom cover screws for this laptop, every online listing has philips screws for the S340-15 inch but my model is similar to the one in this video and uses T5 torx screws. does anyone know the measurements or anywhere where I could source replacement screws?
Hi, I upgrated y laptop l340 with 16gb of ram, however, I've noticed that after I using it for a long period of time, the plastic cover in the where the ram is located is very hot(that means that the aluminum cover is a lot hoter as well as the ram module). Could it be because of the aluminum cover, sholud I take it off?
Hi, thanks for the video, need to upgrade my RAM and wanted to know,is it absolutely necessary to remove the battery or can i just fit the new RAM board without removing anything else?, appreciate any advise, thanks
Hey did your laptop come with a 256gb ssd? Just wondering because my specs are 8gb ram, 256gb. Just want to know because ima order a 500gb ssd to put in but can I use 2 ssd at the same time?
The one I had was a 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD as standard. It would be possible to fit a larger M.2 drive and a SATA SSD though since the connector and mount for the SATA 2.5" drive was all present. Best bet would be to open it up and check.
Many thanks for your video. My model is S340-14IML, Can I add a 16GB to get 20gb in total? I read many comments but I am not sure if it is possible. If yes, please could you share a link of this Memory?
Sir I have upgraded my ideapad s340 with 12 GB RAM but then onwards my laptop shows bluescreen error with a code memory management, please help me as i have tried every possible things such as updating all the drivers and system etc. So I have visited Lenovo website & run hardware diagnostic tool there it shows every test as successful except memory test
What version of this laptop are you modding? I'm thinking of getting the 10 series i5 model, 8gb, 256gb s340. Would the upgrades and insides be the same? Great video, very helpful. Thanks.
I bought IdeaPad S340-15IML (10th Gen) with CPU-I7 and ram 8GB. Can I upgrade the ram to 12GB or 16GB? what is maximum amout of RAM can my Model support?
@@nicevideo6341 I dont understand it clearly. So I reprhase it again: You mean I can add maximum 8gb Ram in the second slot which not soldered? then it would be altogether 12gb..is that what you mean?
I'm working on my dads Ideapad for him. It boots very slowly to the desktop. Is there anyone that could point me in the right direction on upgrading it? Its been slow since he bought it.
I have a 330S with 256 GB SSD. I want to increase my SSD. Do I add an additional SSD to the existing, or do I replace the 256 with a another bigger one? and how to do it? does the brand matter?
Hi, tengo una Lenovo Ideapad s340 ryzen 7 que empezó a apagarse cuado renderizaba vídeo y también calentaba mucho luego un día mientras renderizaba, se apagó y no volvió a encender ni cargar la batería.
my s340 came with a 4gb ram stick already on the slot but the system only identifies those same 4 gb, does that mean that my motherboard does't have the built-in ram?
Nice video bro, is there approximately 4 mm of space in the m.2 nvme slot to attach a heatsink with thermal pad? I have a temperature issue on the SSD. Thanks before that.
