Here is what I did to get the keyboard out. I am NOT a technician, so please take this advice with care as it could cause damage. First, curse Lenovo for designing a laptop that is so difficult to replace keyboard. Hopefully this helps you feel better with rest of installation. Next, the metal cover is attached by apparently melting the black plastic pegs that goes through the metal cover. I took an Xacto knife and cut each of the tops of them off, then the metal cover comes off. There are a lot of them. After that the keyboard has some attached the same way, cut those off as well. Now the keyboard comes out. The problem now is there is no way to affix the keyboard down so it is loose. What I did was put the new keyboard in, put the metal cover back on making sure it aligns with all the cut off black pegs, then carefully used a hot glue gun to adhere the metal cover back down in a number of spots where it was not next to anything important. Not sure this will hold, may be a better adhesive to do this with as well. CAREFUL, hot guns and plastic and ribbon cables do not go well together!!

I have to replace my sons idea pad keyboard next. You process is generally correct and I am confident as I have just done the keyboard replacement on a dell inspiron which has the same bad production method of attaching the KB to the palm rest facia. Easier than using a knife is to use a soldering iron to melt the plastic lugs off (be very very careful - super hot around leads). Reattachment was done by melting down some lugs which had not been used in the factory assembly and then in other places using a 5-minute epoxy resin.
