I picked up the omen 15 when it was on sale for $850. Like you said .. if you see a deal don't sleep on it. Glad I got it. It seems like laptops in Hawaii are scarce.
Just got the hp omen 15. However mine has a 3060 instead of a 1660 and a 5800 h instead of 4800h. I would definitely recommend! Might want to upgrade the ram depending on what you use it for.
Amazing video Jarrod keep up the fantastic work ! These videos are helping me decide which gaming laptop to get could you also run a test of warzone for the amd laptops like the msi bravo 15 and the dell one in this video as well as the other ones with the Nvidia graphics as i want to know fps I will get from the laptops Great work once again :)
Purchased this on the basis of using it for heavy music production and occasional video editing. Any advice on how I could upgrade the storage / if it was the right choice? Thanks guys!
This is like the 5th time I went to google to search laptops/laptop comparisons, and you upload the exact video I was hoping to find. One of the best out here tbh.
IMO the omen looks so good aesthetically, but the legion is way cheaper and better in most areas... So it's the classic "my heart says omen but my mind says legion" 😂. Great video as always Jarrod ! You deserve millions of subs !
@@DrMrPersonGuy I can confirm that it has qc issues. I’ve had the Intel rtx 2060 omen for a month and a half and am already having to send it in for repair for the keyboard ghosting. It’s a great laptop other than this issue though
You said: Legion - 76 times Omen - 46 times The lenovo - 3 times Asus TUF A15 - 1 time So this makes Legion 5 15 is the clear winner & the Asus TUF A15 the sore loser!! 😂
okay now their about the same 😭 Omen omen omen omen omen omen omen omen omen omen Omen omen omen omen omen omen omen omen omen omen Omen omen omen omen omen omen omen omen omen omen Omen omen omen omen omen omen omen omen omen omen
I bought the omen because I needed a new computer ASAP and it was the most functional everything computer that was in stock. It was pricey but so far I’m loving it. It handles demanding programs like Corel painter better then any Mac I’ve tried.
0:53 thank you for this, it drives me mad that almost no reviewer mention the weight of the laptop AND the power brick, even more considering you usually carry both of them around.
Hello, how long did you have this laptop? Do you have any problems with the screen or anything at all honestly? I'm hoping to buy one. I hope you can update us again after a month or so. Anyone with the Legion 5 can reply. I've been reading the same reoccurring problem about the screen turning off unexpectedly while the laptop is still on/working on the other hand. $999 or more is still a serious money to pay for a laptop that will die on you early.
@@162benjamin I have had my laptop Legion 5 for almost 2 months now and have never encountered a problem with it and I honestly love it. Games run very smoothly on it. I do think it's better to buy it from Lenovo itself if you want to customize it.
@@jennyluu4064 Yep its a monster for creative suites, no problems there. Battery life for daily use, I get about 4/5 hours of youtube / web browsing / music playback. 6 or 7 hours of idle / light web browsing. But Editing on battery only will be about 1 - 3 hours battery life. Depending how heavy your project is. Gaming about 2 / 3 hours depending on title. (Watchdogs Legion I get 1hour and half battery life) I keep it plugged in for all things other than light web browsing / daily use. Plus this laptop is really quiet, I was expecting a lot louder! Silent on idle / light web browsing / daily use. Gaming it ramps up but is relatively quiet compared to some gaming laptops ive experienced (Helios, Pavillion, Dell) Since I have smoothed out the 2 issues with the integrated GPU and Audio software clipping. It has been 100% since.
Hey do you have the 120hz screen and if you do , are the nits enough becuase most reviewrs are saying they are not but my olds laptops screen is like 222 nits and on full brightness its really bright. Also is the display generally good?
Watching this on my Legion! I'm glad it still comes out on top! Also, I haven't exactly used it for too much gaming yet, but I can say that it works really well for design students :)
@@ListonFermi I'm taking animation and entertainment design! So I use the typical photoshop, illustrator, Indesign, after effects, maya, etc. Sometimes when a lot of programs are open at the same time, the fan might get a bit crazy, but everything runs really smoothly! :)
@@JonathanCurro I actually got mine a few weeks back (since my old laptop just wasn't enough for heavier rendering), I think I spent about $1430 (converted to usd) since it sells out SO fast here all the time
Thanks Jarrod for helping me decide which laptop to buy. i bought the Legion because it was like $200 cheaper than the hp and the legion had the amd cpu, while the hp only had an intel one, so i picked the legion. Thanks Jarrod! I watched this video so many times and I can finally say that I'm watching this video on my Lenovo Legion 5.
@@robyrandom1148 the performance difference is barely noticeable lmao. on top of rather having an inbuilt sd card reader than a dongle its all subjective either way dont clown him
Omg glad you pointed out how sharp the front of the Omen is OMG. I literally got a paper cut when I check it out in store. Granted I do have soft office hands 👋
I was actually looking at both laptops. I decided to go with the legion 5 after watching your video. As someone who knows nothing about pc gaming and wanting to get into it, watching your videos is awesome I’m learning so much already!
I see lots of people saying that legion crushed Omen. But honestly, the differences are very small and both laptops are of the best in this price range. So I'd say they're almost just as good, and both are good choices of laptops.
Jarrod, have you ever thought about giving each laptop you review a "Jarrod Score" or something, similar to what DougDeMuro does on his car review channel? I think it could be interesting to see a (it might become a bit subjective, but that's practically inevitable) list of laptops ranked by your personal scoring system.
Gotta give myself a pat on the back I chose the legion as the better machine comparing reviews constantly and here you are proving it with a physical machine on deck 😌 lol besides the SD slot, battery and weight on the Omen the Legion is the one 👌. Question though would you buy the Intel Rtx2060 version over this? I have considered it because of ray tracing gaining support in photoshop etc. If possible u can also compare the 5 and the 5i. Awesome work Jarrod! 🙌
@Rays Through Trees, Summer Breeze I wanted to wait also but I couldn't due to the urgent need for a laptop. Btw I got the 5i rtx2060 and idk what u heard but my ears are still getting use to how silent like zero to .1 % of any noise when any at all and as far as heating goes it barely barely I mean barely gets heated and that was after a few hours editing etc. And as far as the rtx2060 entry card rhetoric ..itd still ahead of the the 1660ti and it will be supported by dlss where the gtx card won't be and the "ray tracing" for what its worth does show in some of the software so far. But either way it all depends on your needs but I'll tell you its a good buy 👍
Ok since people pretend that the 5i doesnt exist and finding a legion 5 amd with rtx is like finding a unicorn im going to share my experience: I got the Legion 5i rtx 2060 i7 1075h. It comes by default with that weird rgb keyboard. Performance was meh honestly, out of the box, it doesnt perform better than the ryzen version with 1660 ti. That because lenovo locked the tdp on the intel version to roughly 85W while in the amd version is 115W. If you are willing to tweak some things, and bios (like myself) you are getting a damm beast in gaming,+90 fps ultra, easily outperforms the amd version, as per intel is better in gaming for like 3%.
This has to be one of the most requested comparisons this year, nice to see it done so well. I think the results show that you get a great laptop with either model, and it’s just down to personal preference. Looking forward to your next content.
I love my omen. I bought it for business and light gaming( Stellaris, Civilization VI, Prison Architect ) and use it mostly for xactimate. Couldn’t be happier. I haven’t had a lot of thermal issues. I prop it up so it’s not laying down flat so the fans can get some fresh air. Over a counter top it runs fast and cool. No issues.
Honestly it's a lot of time I don't have at the moment for looking at minor differences, plus Bob already has you covered: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g7im3Shi3dg.html
@@JarrodsTech The Omen 15 ALSO has a MUX Switch! You can access it via the Omen Command Center and by enabling "Discrete" graphics mode. Please correct this video because when you consider that the Omen 15 and Legion 5 performance are pretty much identical.
I expected this battle between 2 laptops to be very tight but clearly the legion 5 shred apart the omen 15.... I feel bad coz i just bought the hp omen 15 as the legion 5 isn't launched in our country....
Other way around for me! The Omen 15 only just came out in the UK this week, while I managed to get my hands on the Legion 5 about a month ago. Please don't regret getting the Omen though, these machines are basically trading blows so we're both winners in my book!
I just returned my legion 5 to get an omen 15. The performance difference is negligible really, and the Omen 15 looks much better, it's more portable, and the keyboard layout is the best I've seen on a laptop (I wish the lenovo didn't have that awkward numpad on the side, with such a small enter and shift button, and weird home - page up/down positioning - it was really confusing while typing, even though I must admit the tactility was fine). Also the trackpad on the Legion is too stiff at a large portion of the top area (unclickable really). In the end, I believe both machines should be considered great buys, so, you shouldn't feel any regrets, enjoy your HP!
@@atriantafy yeah keyboard layout is better in omen. Did you find any display issues with Legion? I saw many comments regarding display and battery issues with that ryzen model.
@@animationmaniacjr i would have prefer the legion 5 but unfortunatelly its not available in my area so i picked the omen 15 tbh the only thing i liked about the legion better was the option to disable optimus for those higher frames
I am about to pick one of those 2.. I want the Legion but am I the only one who thinks that omen looks way better?? Its nothing too bad for the legion but reminds me a bit the PlayStation 2...
@@josephkay4219 It doesn't get slow , someone at HP lighted a fat ass blunt & decided to get rid of performance mode & locked a CPU made for 45W to 35W. That is the reason Legion 5 is able to make such a large performance difference when put against Omen 15 , else the chances of laptops with same specs with such a large difference is just unbelievable
@@parhamnourollahi2927 They did , to a certain extent . I can still feel the absence of a mix switch. I think I'll have to break into it using some 3rd party software
I have to say having both the omen and a Lenovo, I find there is much less chassis flex in the omen than the Lenovo, which resulted in the keyboard not working on the Lenovo. So I would say on paper Lenovo is better but for everyday use I would say omen because of the titanium chassis. And both have had their fair share of hits .
I clicked on this video hoping the omen won't be better, because I bought Legion 5 a week ago. I wasn't expecting the legion to obliterate omen. Thanks for this comparison. I am even happier I got the legion 5. Also I have the RGB version so the performance is at least 30% better from the one in the video.
Greaat! i really thanks to you for making this video, but can you help me cause i have fixed budget and can't decide between omen 15 4800h rtx2060 or Legion 5 4600h rtx2060 (both have the same price in my country), and with the difference in cpu and power limit for the gpu (if i'm not mistaken on omen 15 is 90 watts while the legion is 115 watts) which device given the better performance? particulary on gaming.
Omen is pretty great! Best thing is that it has ports on side instead of back, so I can put it on my lap while laying down on my bed like this ^_/\ That's how I like Playing! 😆 I can't do it on Legion tho. Only Omen's sharp edges are annoying. I'm glad I chose Omen over Legion for this reason alone.
Waiting for this :) Though sad cuz amd version hard to find where i live :(, but i think i might be able to settle for intel since the legion seems so good :)
Hp omen is so bad I bought the hp omen 17 inch for around 1700 euro two months my laptop is out of warranty and it just brakes down (black screen) the motherboard is dead. So you know what that means! The CPU and gpu are soldered on the board so it will be almost the price of a new one. I use it for like 5hours a week. I Almost don't game on it around 10days total. If you count the hours I bin on it it will probably be like around 4 months. Support team is no where to find! People please save your hard earned money and don't bay this. All this RU-vid reviews only name the small bad thinks about this product. But the most important thing is. that the laptops in this price range must be able to get you 5 years of usage for two hours or more. 26 months is just not acceptable. Before baying this check black screen or hp omen error won't start on google and also there reviews about there costumer service !
This is one of my favorite reviews, i had a legion with a ryzen 7 and a 1650 ti but I feel like the performance was still impressive for its gpu. I also have an omen with the ryzen 7 and 1660ti. I like using the omen too but the fans turning on max speed out of nowhere hurt my soul severely, especially when i'm listening to music or photo editing. i'm probably going to switch to the legion again but with a stronger gpu, the 1660ti version is a pretty sick nasty deal on amazon i feel versus what i got the omen for so pretty cheesed about that. I also grew up using lenovo laptops so I'm pretty biased to legion given that it has the curved key design also contemplating on getting the asus tuf a15 with the ryzen 9 and 2060, undervaluing it cause it's priced so cheap cause cheap cooling but also built TUF so I guess that means it'll last longer? I also wanna wait til a stronger 15 inch legion 5 comes out and wait for it to go on sale, feel like i should have gotten the 17 inch version cause it was on sale but its out of stock now so i'm basically dying inside every day

I hope you can update us again after a month or so. I've been reading the same reoccurring problem about the screen turning off unexpectedly while the laptop is still on/working on the other hand. The other one is the hinge problem of another Legion model. They're not the same Laptop of course, but their hinge factor is still the same. $999 or more is still a serious money to pay for a laptop that will die on you early.
@@162benjamin I sent it back after a couple weeks cause I felt like I needed a strong enough gpu that i wouldn't have to upgrade for upcoming games and software over the next few years. the screen was fine on mine. If it does come with a defect like the screen just send it back and get a replacement or they call some tech guy to your house to see if he can fix it (probably, never called the tech guy but I guess that's what they'll do) For context of what I used the legion 5 for, I played games like mhw with 60-80 fps on highest settings while streaming. I found that the fans wouldn't speed up for optimal cooling sometimes which worried me especially when it's on performance mode which has an automatic overclock. I don't truly understand what the numbers or overclocking means but I tested it on msi afterburner, the max clock speed It could stay at was 1800-2025 while playing mhw and battlefield 5 Whatever that means it sounds OP for a 1650ti. Anyway to fix the fan problem just restart the laptop and it'll fix itself, feels a bit tedious but I believe its needed to save the pc parts from dying early. I also remember seeing somewhere that the legion 5 had a better reinforced hinge design than the legion 7 Besides how they are built I'm pretty sure all pc/laptops will have their own reoccurring problems until an update fixes them.
Great comparison! I just bought the Legion 5i 15" with the i7, I wanted the Ryzen version but wasn't available with the spec I wanted. it should arrive in a week or two! :D
So in most cases the Legion 5 is slightly better than the Omen 15, whilst also being more flexible in customizations. But the Omen is still an exceptional laptop and getting either of the two is a great choice
