Damn, you covered everything I could have wanted and more. You even talked actual pricing... and no one seems to want to do that. I just picked this up and watched a lot of reviews.... this was my favorite. By the way, it might still be on B&H for $2,650 if anyone reads this and cares.
Good review. I was able to pick up the 32g mem with the 4080 version on sale at B&H for $1899, think they are $1999 now. I love it, great laptop, especially at that price.
i just ordered one for 1999. big toss up between this MSI for same price but chose the lenovo in the end. MSI 17" Raider GE78HX Core i9-13980HX-32GB of 5600 MHz DDR5 RAM, rtx 4080,1T
A slight correction: One of the DDR5 Memory advantages is: Dual Channel on a Single Stick. So, no, it would be better if it had one 32GB stick and a free slot.
I just scored a new in box 4090 model on Facebook marketplace for 2275 usd. Could not be more happy this thing is a beast. Shame it does not have the mini led panel though.
Thank you. I purchased one of those at a bargain, just a few weeks ago. I have no statistics, but if there is aby future for the PC Gaming industry, I think it lies with laptop gaming. Yes, your standard home built desktop will always be ahead and more upgradeable, but not exactly very much cheaper. A desktop RTX 4090 card is still at $2000 which isn't too far from a complete gaming laptop like this. No you cannot compare with the top performance, but the laptop version actually trades blows with last gen. 3090, and add to that what you get in total, plus the neatness and portability. It is my prediction that traditional desktop builds will become a more niche market, trading blows with consoles, while gaming laptops will increase the market share, just for what they are. There have been huge advances since the bulky DTR days, and while a Gaming laptop isn't exactly slim as a Macbook, it is just one generation behind the desktop counterpart, and these days they even look and feel slim and neat enough.
Hi! If I buy that kind of top spec gaming laptop and like to use for video randering and photo editoring. This is where we good choice or buying work station with RTX A5000 ?
I know this is a fairly old video, but i never look into things until I'm actually looking to buy. I'm curious about the AI "Tobii"? I'm not paranoid, so is it useful in games? if i look left in a vehicle, will it pan left?
So, can you upgrade the ram to 96GB at 5600 MHZ? I've heard mixed reviews. Also, if i purchase two 990 samsung m.2 ssd will they both fit? I wanna know before dropping the $$$.
1- Can I turn off the disco keyboard/side lights in Linux? 2- Does the AI tools send usage info to the cloud (i.e., is it spying on us)? 3- How long does the battery lasts in "idle-ish" regime?
@@pinkpalace-yx2ew I did not expect that it will be so capable, but I must admit I upgraded RAM it had only 16GB and with 32GB of RAM it is a game changer. If you still find in the shop then it was Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16ACH6H. That rtx is on 130W. I have it for 3 years. Starfield can play between 30-70 FPS in 2K - ultra + AMD FSR3 (shadows high)
I thought about that myself but Mac has so much crap to get outside of the laptop and the music production software I use doesn’t work with Mac so. I like USB stuff and always hated having to get adapters to use them which Mac forces me to do let alone all their apps I have to download. Mac is good for painting and artists, though.
I believe this doesnt have any Windows Hello whatsoever. Last year they had a fingerprint scanner but with this year they got rid of it as they wanted to compete with all the other makers. Still it's 2023 so there should be at least something for this price.
I didn't fully understand what you said about the 32GB RAM. Is it upgradable to 64GB RAM with the existing memory chips or do you need to replace all of them? How many chips/slots are there? 2 or 4?
@@clint9040 on their website it says max ram is 32...but I was REALLY hoping it could handle 64....it also says it's only capable of two 1tb M.2 drives...which, I was really hoping for more of that too....anyone know?
@@UH82NVME As I wrote above ... I direct phone call to Lenovo returned that ... the RAM is soldered to the motherboard. So, no replacing. This actually matches the statement on the official spec PDF.
great video. i got the 4080 version cause i didn't see as much of a gain w/ the 4090 over the 4080 as i saw w/ the 4080 over the 4070. got it during a sale so it was several hundred dollars cheaper than msrp. the last time i upgraded was over 4 years ago...how can i go wrong?
According to their website this can only have 32 gigs of RAM and up to two 1tb M.2 drives. Are you sure it can handle 64 gigs of RAM and do you know how big of hard drives it can handle? I would love that info if you got it. Thank you in advance for your insight. I appreciate the time you put into making this video. It was packed full of great info!
@@bozicsreten I have two 2tb M.2 drives and it works flawlessly. In fact, it's pretty insanely fast....:) just waiting on some confirmation on the RAM.
@@UH82NVME thanks for reply, I am glad to hear that you like it. The only thing that actually keeps me away from pulling the trigger is this thing about RAM lol
@@bozicsreten Ha, I mean, it's definitely blazing fast. I do a lot of photography and just recently started tinkering in video. The computer is quite fast itself that I don't know that the extra RAM is necessary depending on your purposes. So if you're using it just to game or something like that I bet it would be plenty fine. If you do some heavy video work or designing you may want it. I have been really really impressed with it.
@@UH82NVME that’s awesome, I am also into photography (not gamer at all) and primary purpose of it would actually be for music production so I just want to be on a safe side when it comes to RAM
I want to buy legion pro 7. I just want to play gta csgo and other games. And i will use it for MATLAB, python simulation, image processing and android studio. Is it Good or not Need advice
It's great abs highly recommended. The RTX4080 is a lot cheaper and almost as powerful on games. Go for that. A great keyboard & screen for your coding & productivity work too!
I have similar requirements. I just discovered the 32 GB ram is a hard limit, not upgradable. What other laptops are you looking at? My main requirement? A damn numpad! It is a rarity nowadays!
@@Bilal-fi9ev I start thinking that there are Europe/US differences in this laptop. In Europe, the 64GB seemed not to exist when I typed that message. Not sure about now.
This machine with 4090 performs in game 5% above desktop 3090Ti, actually between desktop 4070Ti and desktop 4080 (5% to 15% slower than 4080 desktop, depending on the game).
Where did you get this information? I find it very unlikely that it performs better than an RTX 3090 Ti desktop. I would be happy to be proven wrong though.
@@Trusteft no because I'm saying the public normal spreaded info. He is the one contradicting everyone else. So if he believes 1+2=3, he's the one to bring the proof. You can find stuff like this everywhere: Here it compares fps in 10 games: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DTizHip5FjU.html Here you have a huge channel testing it and saying "When a laptop is actually faster than an RTX 3090 GPU... YIKES!" and do many benchmarks. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5k219ud_Xz0.html You can find 200 videos like these. The 4090 mobile is actually a 4080 desktop... at lower TDP.
I like a review that shows dislikes as well as things it found positive. It's one of the ways you can distinguish it from a commercial or paid promotion.
B&H has it for $2500 now. I wish instead of Legion Pro 9 I had bought the 7 for $1500 less money. The Legion Pro 9 has faulty MediaTek network card and it has died after two days of use. What a waste of time and money. It will be returned soon!
Correction that is the legion pro 7i not the pro 7, the I in 7i means Intel. Without that i as in how you were saying “Legion pro 7” you’d be referring to the model with the AMD 7945hx. You should prob do a bit more research cuz that’s a pro 7i not pro 7.
This is the first time I watch your videos, so I don't know you at all. Not sure if it was sarcasm or not, but do you honestly believe that 97C is a normal temperature for a brand new laptop. That's like a couple of months away from reaching 100C. 97C is not normal. Hell, even not after a few months, what if it is a hot day? No. Terrible. I agree about the GPU temps, they are really good for the system. But the CPU...No, just not acceptable. As for the A.I., it sounds completely like a gimmick, but still if it doesn't have the option to switch off, good enough reason for me to never consider buying it. If it wasn't already for the CPU temps. Or my complete lack of money. Thanks for the video.
I don’t know what you are talking about build quality. Lenovo skimped out compared to the last generation. The keyboard flex by the WASD is terrible, the plastic feels cheap… I doubt you own or have used the previous generation.
Serious question. Because you mentioned keyboard flex. I use computers for about 40 years now. Keyboard flex was never an issue about the longevity and responsiveness of any keyboard I have ever used. Why do you, as many others, mention flexing of a keyboard (laptop or not) as something important?
@@Trusteftprolly because as a gaming laptop, people tend to put more force on the wasd keys when gaming compared to other laptops thats why flexing might become an issue
This is a weird review for a laptop since it did not discuss one of the most important features in a laptop: Battery Life. How the hell do you honestly review a laptop and expect to be taken seriously without addressing how the thing fares in various settings and what sort of hourage a prospective buyer can expect out of the box? Very bizarre.
To be fair, it's going to vary widely depending on how you use it. Lots of reviews on this laptop out there. Jharods tech is really thorough and I think he has hard numbers for battery life.
