@@hipcio9000 hey i wanted to ask that its mixing ram and i have heard it bottlenecks the system so will that happened or not? and also can you swap out the other ram stick to make it 32 gb ram instead of 24gb?????
This man helped me not only detatch the case from my computer (lenoval didn't make it as easy as other laptops) and he gave me access to clean out my dirty fans. Thanks a million mate! You are the best!
This is a very good tutorial and thanks to it and photos from Google, I installed additional RAM in a laptop for the first time. But in the beginning, when you show how to open the lid, you should emphasize that the screws are of different lengths and you should be careful which is where. But otherwise perfect, best regards!
@@abdallaaref3718 Not all screws are of equal length and if you screw one that is too long into a place where a shorter one was screwed in, you can damage the components of the laptop. But unfortunately I don't remember which was which, you have to write it down when removing the screws. Cheers!
@@RazielgetDatsword Hi! I bought an external case for SSDs, used it to migrate the old one contents on the new one and then swapped them, I'm now using the old SSD as an external drive hope this helps!
Question/Issue: Hi, I have a Y740 and just updated it with a 1 EVO970 Plus NVMe SSD and a 2TB EVO SSD. On the Information window in BIOS the 2TB EVO SSD is assigned to Disk 1 and 1TB 970EVO Plus is assigned to Disk 2. It should be reversed. Also, It doesn't list the 1TB NVMe in the Boot Manger, only the DISK 1 2TB SSD. The only way I can get the 1TB NVME to boot is to remove the 2TB EVO SSD. The only way I get both drives to show up in the BIOS is buy enabling Legacy mode. I enable Legacy support by switching the to ACHI storage controller. Then can see both drives, but the system will not boot with both drives installed .
You should play with battery connected and laptop plugged in. You'll only ruin the battery when charging is in progress and you're using the laptop at the same time
I don't have this laptop yet, but your video was just sooo darn good 👍 Thanks a lot! I'm curious, would it be possible to upgrade the Wi-Fi card to Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5?
Hello what if i want to replace that boot drive which is hdd, should i change the boot drive to another drive first or? And also do we need to do any settings before installing and after? Or the system will automatically found out the upgrade?
If you mean that you wanna have Windows on different drive you have to install the system on that drive and get rid of Windows on your current drive. After installing new drive you have to go device manager and make a partition.
@@gdivision951 There is only 1 slot for M.2 SSD. You could eventually install M.2 SSD in 2.5" drive bay using adaptor but it would be limited to SATA cable connection anyway.
Good video, but you must correct the links to the M.2 SATA type because they are not compatible with this laptop. The right options are M.2 PCIe, not SATA.
2:04 is there anyway i can repair the spot where hdd cable meets botherboard, i mean that little white plastic and metal thing? because after an hit my hdd disconnected and there is nothing holdin that cable to the motherboard...hdd was making sounds so i guess mby its dead aswell
This is still the old model shown. 2020 model needs to have only 2 screws removed to slide open the front half of the back panel. And if there is no factory 2.5" HDD installed, you will find a dummy drive with 4 screws and cable already inserted.
@@MrKimakatsu 2019: The back panel is a single part, with a flat front half and a perforated back half, separated by straight line (as in video). 2020: The halves are separated by a 45° angled skewed contour. You will also find only 2 screws on the separate front part and no screws in the middle area. The new model has always the cable already installed.
After the changing the ram and adding an ssd, is it necessary to install new drivers or do something with the software? Or it will all run normally with the restart?
Another question: I want to buy the crucial ram (2x8gb) but I don't know if I have to choose the single or the dual rank. Thank you very much 4 answering our questions! You have a new subscriber.
It may be different for each country so it's better to read the warranty card. In most cases it shouldn't void warranty as long as you dont damage the laptop during upgrading process
one question please , why do these laptops have mdot2 with a Hdd ? i searched about theme and found they are SSD's , i can it get it ? why am i having an a ssd next to my HDD
which RAM / SSD / HDD u put inside the laptop act. i hv lenovo Y540 there is 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD AND 1TB HDD SO what i do to increase the capacity please suggest me, i want ram 32gb / ssd 1tb and hdd is enough i work animation & rendering, is this kind of changes in laptop is supported.
Hi, i linked few RAM and drives options in the description so you can check them out. 32GB (2x16) RAM is max this laptop can support and it's good to have this much for graphics work and rendering. For HDD you can have even 2TB if you wish
Hi and thank you for this video 🙂 can i replace the current 2Tb HDD for a 4 or 8 TB SSD ...? and if so .. once this is installed what dor i need to do to get it running ? or would that just be plug in and play .... thank you
If i remember good the main difference is that y540 has improved thermal performance compared to previous version Y530. It still runs kinda hot tho. It depends on the price difference if it's worth to buy old or new one
Hey can you please make a video on undervolting hp omen 15 rtx 2060 ? I watched your one video on undervolting the acer laptop but I'm a little confused....i want to undervolt it by -0.130v like urs... and thanks in advance, your videos are really good....keep up the good work
Can we use the HyperX 2666MHz ram stick mentioned in your description to upgrade the Legion 5i model along with the pre-installed 2933MHz ram stick present in it?
Hey Tech Finds! I just thought to ask, will it void my Lenovo warranty to replace the ram sticks? More importantly, is there a seal on the ram sticks that would show if they were removed?
It may depend on the country, so i recommend reading your warranty terms or contact Lenovo support. By default in most cases changing RAM/HDD/SSD won't void the warranty unless you damage something during upgrade. Edit: i didn't find any seals
@@TechFinds Alright thanks, I read through the warranty and it looks like it won't void it unless I were to damage it like you said, but I'm not too worried about that since your tutorial is so clear! Thank you
I asked the lenovo service the same question via chat. They said it would interfere with the warranty, but I'm still not sure, since the person there seemed somewhat incompetent.
I wanted to add Samsung EVO840 2,5" SSD to Lenovo Y530 using ribbon cable as on this video NBX0001M410 (also tried NBX0001TC00), but my Lenovo Legion Y530 doesn't detect the SSD nor in BIOS neither in Windows. I checked BIOS system date/tome, I switched between UEFI and Legacy, battery was unplugged, but it didn't help. I tried with mechanical 500GB 2,5" SATA drive and it is not turning when connected.
Yes it supports 2TB. Brand doesn't matter. Probably the HDD is defective or there's something with the connection. Check if the cable is connected well to the motherboard and HDD.
@@TechFinds I dont really know what could be an issue cuz that hdd works flawlessly on desktop and old 1tb drive worked just fine. So my best guess could be that i damaged sata cable when i was mounting new drive or i just didn't catch error on desktop even if there were any. I tihnk i will return hdd and try my luck with seagate.
I just bought this for $900 and I love it and I was thinking of adding more storage so this helped a lot. I dont think I need to add more ram but if I do, do I have to take out both of the ones that are installed or just one?
If you're replacing the SSD where you have your files you should make a copy. Also if Windows is installed on this SSD you should be prepared for installing windows on the new drive
Can I install 8gb(stock) + 32gb/16gb(crucial or sth else) = total(40gb/24gb)? I mean by only considering the same frequency of RAM cards and not having the same size.
First of all, thank you ! Your guide is easy to understand and short ! But i have a question, i've heard about the possibility of adding another SSD/HDD IN the Lenovo Legion, is it really possible ? Cuz i got this pc and when i added some RAM, i did not see any place to put in.
The prices vary between countries. As for the laptop itself i think that i would go for Nitro 7 i think. Both have not very good cooling but with Acer you can at least control the fan speed.
i have a question to ask because i have the y530 and this guide is for the y540. my y530 have an 1TB HDD and no SSD installed. can i install an SSD? And what type of SSD do you recommend? thanks
@@zdoginterprise With any drive you have to go to device manager and make a new partition after installing the drive. If you replaced the SSD where your windows was installed then you have to re-install windows on the new drive.
The blue line should be right before the connector when the cable is fully inserted. It doesn't get covered. Just close the tag and see if the hdd works
If I opt for the SSD only variant then I get the option to add a SATA SSD in the future but my question is if I buy a SSD say for example the Crucial MX500 will I get the SSD along with the sata to motherboard connector or only the SSD ?
By default you'll get this laptop with M.2 SSD which means that you'll have free slot for 2.5" SATA SSD. You can add it in the future and connect it with SATA cable
i have one simple question with many small questionsi think its shown on the video but I just need to make sure if I see it correctly... SO if I have lenovo legion y-540 256gb sdd 8gb ram, I can add HDD inside? there's empty spot for it? and put all apps on it, and leave sdd just to my system so it still starts quick? also in your description you recommend packs of 2x 8gb rams of the same type, can I buy just 1 another 8gb ram for mine and it doesn't have to be from the same company if everything else is matching the requirements?
Every Y540 has one slot for 2.5" HDD or SSD and one slot for m.2 SSD, yours as well. You have only m.2 SSD so 2.5" drive bay is free and you can add HDD. You can leave only system on your ssd if you like. You can buy different RAM, brand doesn't matter but match the specs (GB, MHz, cl, voltage)
Hey, I want to buy Legion Y740 and there is only a version with only 512GB SSD but no HDD. Is it possible for me, when I get it, to put a HDD inside of it? Is there space for it? Thank you!
And also there is a version with a noOS operating system but it is few hundred dollars cheaper but i wonders if i would be able to get windows on it or not?
Sure, you will have a slot for 2.5" drive free so you can put HDD or SSD in there. You can install Windows on your own, but i recommend to buy model with Windows already installed as it comes with essential software and settings that define how your laptop works.
If you are still reading comments, can you tell me what speed the upgraded ram is running at? Heard sometimes it does not run at full speed without XMP
Hey, i just ordered this laptop with 256gb ssd but I want more. Is it possible to put another HDD of 1tb? not to replace the 256gb ssd but to put additional?
Every gaming laptop is loud under full load as the fans must spin fast to cool the hardware properly. If you disconnect the charger then performance drops dow drastically and there's no need to cool it so much, so fans get quieter. There's no way to do anything with that as the fan speed is aoutmatic in this laptop.
i opted for ssd version , they given hdd slot but there is no sata connector also this connector i didnt get when i purchase hdd, so i am never able to connect as they not given sata connector with laptop...that is very bad.
Looks quite simple and easy. Czesc Tech Finds, been looking at the Acer Predator Helios 300 that you recommended, but all 15.6" laptops here in Australia seem to have the 60Hz screen. Only the 17.3" has the 144Hz panel. The 15.6" would be better for travelling. There is another Predator called the Triton 500 and that has the 144hz screen in the 15.6" but costs $3,200 AUD it comes with RTX 2080, 32gb Ram and a 512gb SSD....but it has a weird keyboard layout. Later this year they are replacing the DDR4 to DDR6 RAM's and the RTX will be upgraded to Super ie RTX 2080 super....never stops does it.
If you gonna wait for new laptops you will end up waiting 4ever, because new and better laptops pop up like mushrooms after rain. ;) I don't recommend Triton, because it runs hot causing performance loss and yea, i've heard that Helios 300 comes with only 60Hz display in Australia unfortunately. It would be great to have 144Hz since it's WAY better, so check out my channel and maybe you will find a good alternative for Predator - i've got many laptop comparisons. Actually Lenovo Legion Y540 is a good option in Australia and i am working on a comparison between Y540 and 2019 Helios right now. Imo Helios is still better, but in Australia Legion may be better option. Btw. why do you type polish words sometimes? ;)
@@TechFinds thanks for the information. I'll keep checking stores for updates as their websites are not always up to date. My parents were from Poland and a few new channels I subscribed to are from Poland, so write a word in Polish. My apologises if I have mistaken yours.
So i have the y545 and windows is pre installed on it and i bought a 970 evo for my laptop and i dont know how to transfer windows or what to do any idea?
You have to use Microsoft Media Creation Tool to copy your Windows and install it from pendrive on new SSD. Your files will be lost tho so save them first on some external storage.
@@TechFinds I did it anyway since I wanted to dual boot with separate hard drives and so far so good, I haven't seen any changes. Thanks for the reply!
@@TG-mt8ce it will let you, but you get double channel with 2 same sticks, that means 2x more speed on ram, that translates to 30% more real time speed on your laptop for most of the tasks, like gaming, opening windows, apps, etc, basically u need to get 8gb+8gb of the same speed, example 2666mhz. You have to check your ram speed, and get the same ram speed and capacity for it to work 100%
I've got one question for this.. does this legion y540 can change or upgrade processor into high performance? *Beside ram and ssd, I will do myself if it could
