This is a review of the X1 Yoga Gen 6. It includes comparisons to X1 Yoga Gen 1-5 in the process. It isn't a performance benchmark review of i5/i7, SSD or similar stats. It is showing the physical characteristics. At the end there is information on options available. Those options are at these websites:
www.lenovo.com...

Thank you for taking the time to make this review. Interesting to see the evolution of the X1 yoga, not many folk have the opportunity to do that comparison the way you have! Any comments on battery life or smoothness of operation? I appreciate as you have said that it is not your primary device. Not a bad one to have kicking around though surely.

Happy you found it useful. The battery is even larger than the already big battery in previous X1 Yoga I am sure it will last through a normal day unless you are rendering video or playing games. It is snappy and smooth, which honestly should be expected from a current machine.

@@hoyty76 Have you tried disabling options in the Windows privacy settings and services in Windows? On the X1Y3, I find a lot of the Lenovo services are hogs that just use up a lot of battery - things like the System interface foundation, Intelligent Sensing, Power Manager, Dolby, Realtek Audio, etc. You could go into the Command Prompt in Admin mode, then type in "powercfg -batteryreport" (without the quotes) which generates a html page to show what your drain is and battery capacity at various times and events. It'll show you how much sleep is using, etc.

Thanks for this great early review! The comparisons were very helpful! As of my current verification, going further from the PSREF, I found out that on the German and the Australian sites of Lenovo you can customize the machine, adding the PCIe 4 is a little over half a thousand AUD, so to speak, and maxing out the package is quite eye-watering :-D If at a later point you could really put the CPU through its paces, and let us know how it performs.

Thanks for the review, Brian. As best as I can tell, if you have the 4k screen, you do not have a matte screen (which Lenovo calls 'anti-glare'); you have an anti-reflective screen which, regrettably, reflects pretty much ALL external light sources.

@jf7445

Thanks for creating this video. It's gold for many of us trying to visualize the differences! I was wondering if you had any additional insight on the newer Gen 7 or Gen 8 X1 Yoga laptops. I am trying to decide between Gen 4 vs Gen 6/7/8 based on best value for a 4-5+ years laptop, and so far Gen 6 seems like the best although Gen 4 ebay prices are tempting. Gen 7 has 12th gen but worse battery and thermals it seems. Gen 8 looks good too but pricing. Also, do you recommend 16gb or 32gb for light coding and "future proofing"
@hoyty76
@hoyty76 Год назад
The only real difference between 6/7 is the processor. If you get P instead of U processor it definitely is worse battery life. The 8 is again very similar. For long term I would go 32 since it can’t be upgraded.

How has the Yoga X1 hinges hold up to? I hear a lot of complaints about the Lenovo hinges breaking including Yoga. Is the new version of Yoga X1 version 6 hinges crack proof because of the aluminum base instead of plastic like some of the Legion models? This is the only issue that is making me hesitant to buy the Yoga X1. Thanks

Hey Brian, could you maybe elaborate how many computers (laptops and stationary machines) you have, how/for which tasks you use them and why you maybe even keep machines you don't use anymore? I would be interested because I always feel slightly guilty when I think about getting a secondary notebook, although my existing Yoga C940 one is only 14 months old and does everything I need. Always like to know about other people's computing habits and your seem to be special with that array of Yoga X1s. Did you buy them all by yourself? Personally I so far rather thought about getting computers fulfilling different roles, but specializing in one particular sort of machine would make you more of a connoisseur, I suppose. Best wishes!

Only the Yoga Gen 6 is mine. The rest are for work. I support about 100 Lenovo laptops and 350 Microsoft Surface Pro. I buy them annually so I have access to almost every generation for last 6-7 years. I have a desktop that is custom built and now the Yoga G6 which replaced my Dell XPS 13 9360 from 4-5 years ago. I just don’t have space or time to personally maintain that many machines anymore.

@@hoyty76 Is the finish of the surface comparable to a regular matte screen without a glass surface on top (like, is it rough)?
