In this video, we look at the Lenovo ThinkStation P330 Tiny which crams an Intel Core i7-8700T and a NVIDIA Quadro P620 into a small 1L chassis. This combination is one of the highest-end 1L PC's ever offered. Beyond the CPU and GPU, this unit can take dual M.2 NVMe SSDs as well as up to 64GB of RAM.

Great review and the written one as well. I really like how well engineered and modular these small boxes are, while being powerful if you need it. A bit anecdotal but the second m2 slot is ideally placed to connect an m2 based eGPU to it, leaving the chassis open

Another thing you could think about would be to get a decent thunderbolt 3 card, then attach a proper gaming card via t3 enclosure to make it a relatively compact gaming, rendering, or AI/ML system.

I really wish a company would offer native 1/2.5/5/10gbit Ethernet ports. I have a Dell 7060 with a 8700T/64GB as my primary host, only thing it's missing is 10gig networking.

A good idea for a video would be have a look at the vpro tooling for smaller/ad-hoc use. Like how to run this theft discovery system and how to provision remote management.

Too bad outside the US the market is small for these devices, especially with dGPU. Anyway, they are perfect for a low power/space beginner homelab! Would love to see more video content about homelab uses/software to run

That's an older revision of the P330 Tiny. The newer ones have a heat pipe connecting the Quadro P600 to the main heat sync.

P320 came with Quadro P600, P330 comes with P620, check PSREF, all part numbers. Also I converted two m720q to 'p330' (lid, bracket and riser) from encompass parts. No dual m.2 is really only difference. (Also motherboard heatsink and Copper 65w CPU heatsink are options)

Wow, maybe I'll grab a 9700T, 32GB, P1000 to replace the desktop I currently have with a Quadro K1200 in it... Would definitely cut the footprint down. Looking forward to the BTS video of the studio!

I love these tiny ThinkStations.. but I'm wondering, what's the significant difference between the P330 tiny, the M920q Tiny and M720q Tiny, even when choosing the exact same CPU Model type? (except that P330 is already marked as discontinued)

I have a Lenovo M73 Tiny (no GPU). It is excellent. Has worked flawlessly since May 2015. Still fast enough for internet, youtube, word processing, etc. Finally replaced it (but still have it) with a Quadro-equipped Dell because I wanted to do some 3D modeling. Really love how robust and reliable the Lenovo has been.

should check out the Acer Veriton N4640G mini PC.. you can add a Nvidia Quadro P620/P1000 to that unit.. for less than $300.. pretty cool little tiny PC..

The pcie slot is only x8 and needs a proprietary adaptor to connector to normal pcie x8 or x16 card. That adaptor isnt cheap around 50usd

Have I bugged you? Kinda lose track of people I comment on... anyway when you opened the case on the Lenovo, did you see a small button or switch? - it would be just about hidden with the cover/case on. It would or might be on the front lower corner. Or, how can a system reset (like onekey) or windows recovery on that model? Have a similar but a little older than yours. ok here we go: at 5:55 if you look at the top right corner of the open unit, there is a small stubby button. This would be covered by the case. What is that button for? Thank you

Probably not since we already have the video on the single NIC setup. With the 4-port NIC it is the same pfSense setup as you would normally do with an i350-t4 NIC.

I think people in the STH forums have the P/Ns but I do not know it. I do know the risers are sometimes hard to get with long lead times

We use P330 Tiny and now P340 Tiny PCs for general office use. Does it make any sense to pull the NVIDIA GPU and just use the built in Intel graphics? As an example, I'm a programmer using general dev tools. Do I gain anything from a higher end GPU? Does it make the PC faster in any way? I'm thinking that removing the NVIDIA would reduce the power usage and make the PC just a little bit quieter.

For general desktop, you are probably fine with the integrated graphics, but you will want to ensure you do not mess up airflow of what is left.

Excuse my ignorance but I didn't hear anything about any options regarding alternative graphics cards, is that because of lower power requirements and nothing exists that will work with the MiniPC?

The only two supported cards in this are the Quadro P620 and P1000. The space is very tight. We showed an AMD option the M920x video/ article.

I have a few of these Tiny Lenovo's on hand that I've recycled from work, unfortunately what I really want is the ability to plug in a NIC adapter and use one of these form factors as a router. While this unit allows for this, looking at ebay prices it certainly isn't worth it. These Tiny PC's are really interesting as home projects when a used one crosses your desk, but I couldn't ever see buying these things new for any lab purposes.

I had a similar thought. The challenge with the T4 is the power and cooling. I do want to see a nice and more modern 40W TDP GPU in here though.

What about the PCIe lanes? Did anyone try to install a ssd on the m.2 wifi slot? Simultaneously with a 4x1Gb nic pcie card and 2 m.2 nvme? Will it be able to boot from the ssd installed on the m.2 wifi slot? I'm thinking an all in one home server. I mean Proxmox with pfsence and truenas. Is it possible? Is it a good idea or not?

Had one of this at work. The cpu is mobile class and should not expect similar to desktop performance. The i7 performs like my i3 desktop.

I like the reviews of these small computers. BUT - my only gripe is that I would like one that has room for one card. I want to use a pc like this as a router, but want to add in a 4 port Ethernet card. Any suggestions? And no, USB etc is not an option. It has to be really fast.

Mentioned a bit in the video/ main site article, but there are configuration options for this, the M920x, M920q and a few others for quad port Intel i350-t4 NICs instead of GPUs.

Do you think we could put a 1050Ti in there? I've had my hands on a tiny MSI card (link below) which costs less than half the quadro P1000 and should be more powerful. It does not need power connectors, it runs on the PCIe link. www.msi.com/Graphics-Card/geforce-gtx-1050-ti-4gt-lp.html

HP in current gen has the 1660 Ti (notebook/ low power version) and Dell can, in some models, put a Radeon 640. We did not have it, but talk about the GPUs and expansion a bit in the Dell OptiPlex 7090 Micro video that will be going live in 20 minutes.

Not 100% sure what this setup used, but likely this was a Rode NTG4+ into the Canon C70 and just recording along with the video. Nothing too fancy.

I have a newer version of this P330 with the long copper heat pipe and Intel Core i7 9700T @ 2.00GHz AND NVIDIA Quadro P1000 AND 32Gb Memory AND a 2Gb SSD in the spare slot. The worst thing about this computer is the fan noise. There is a BIOS setting for quiet mode but makes no difference. The fan cuts in and out whilst just browsing the internet. The fan issue was the same before I upgraded the spec - buyer beware - it will annoy the hell out of you................I have it now in a unit fitted with push pull fans and it makes no difference at all. Seems to be a CPU heat issue - I am not alone with this complaint that Lenevo are aware of but can-not sort - .............................................

Martin, that is great feedback. This one is relatively quiet. I wonder if having that heat pipe puts more load on the single fan which makes it spin more. That is part of the challenge with these. They tend to see mid-cycle updates.

@@ServeTheHomeVideo Reckon you are right. I have resorted to this: A 120mm USB fan placed over the chassis fan air intake and held by magnets. In the hope that air will be pushed through the internal fan and cool the CPU before it gets hot enough for the internal fan to kick in. (This USB fan has a speed control switch inline with the USB plug). Only did this an hour ago - so the jury is out on a pretty poor remedy. If this fails - I will move and hide the computer away from desktop - far enough away so has to not hear that dreaded fan whine going on and off.

Seems to have worked. When watching a you-tube video the temp of the CPU cores average 58 Deg Celsius. Without the USB fan - average is 72 Deg Celsius. Whilst the USB fan is placed over the case fan intake - it seems to be reducing the overall internal case temp. The USB fan noise is almost non existent at medium setting. The internal fan has yet to trigger. I don't push this PC as I mainly use it for Internet and perhaps copying and converting the odd DVD Blue-ray.

If I were buying one for my mum I would look for something like the M920q with a Core i5-8500T and vPro (for remote troubleshooting when she asks for help.) I am not sure if that is helpful at all.

I've owned half a dozen Lenovo Tiny's so, I am not just talking gamer boy hate or something. I've sold or given as gifts to grandma the Tiny's and still keep the Alpha as the TV computer.
