Lisa, I love your reviews. Clear, crisp English which I as have English as a second language really appreciate. Nice review of everything you need to know about this computer. I just need a laptop with touch and it seems that this Yoga is the cheapest touch-screen on the Swedish market. Thank you Lisa for this great review!
Actually the caching SSD wasn't missing from your unit. The 16GB cache drive is integrated in with the 500GB HDD (a hybrid drive.) That blank slot you had labeled as the missing caching SSD is, amazingly, an open empty space. If you buy the 16GB+500GB version, you can very easily add a notebook SSD right into that blank space and still keep your 500GB in there for general storage if you want to. That hybrid HDD is also not a standard 2.5" drive --- you can't just go to the store to get a replacement so easily just yet. It's a new type of 5mm thin drive that has a different connector setup than standard SATA drives. I'm not sure if this is proprietary to Lenovo or just a rare type of drive being introduced to market.
Is this unit have the yellow color problem, or it is related only to the pro version? BTW, you do one of the best reviews in youtube! Thank you for that :)
I'm using one right now and I have a few things to say about it. I can't hold it like an Ipad without feeling like my hand is breaking the keyboard. The weight of it presses my fingers into the keys and I'm always conscious of how delicate the keyboard feels. Secondly, the machine's SD Card slot only holds about 50% of the SD Card. which is awkward I find. Overall I really like it. The versatility is useful in everyday situations too
As a person who has had the 11.6 inch 4th generation i5 Lenovo yoga since December I absolutely love this computer it's very convenient and cool and couldn't recommend it enough and this one looks to be even better Lenovo definitely knows what they're doing my only gripe would be WiFi connectivity isn't all that great mainly when you wake the computer up from sleeping! it doesn't seem to keep the connection so you constantly have to reconnect every time you put it to sleep but all in all it is a great computer I know they don't sell it anymore so your next best bet would be to get this model
That's sort of true of all laptops, metalcrip89 . Don't despair, it isn't your laptop malfunctioning! A slow reconnection can be rooted out with updated drivers or with a better router. You can try installing Lenovo's drivers for your WiFi card, or if you have them, try removing them and then using the Windows drivers that install when you restart. One might perform better for you!
SniperReady I do see differences. On some I don't have to reconnect ever. Not sure if it's software driver or hardware issue but some are worse than others it seems.
I have the Yoga Pro 2 since 3 months I would definitely recommend Lenovo products! Also Microsoft fixed a lot of problems that there was like resolution and scaling and connectivity
Hi Lisa, I did the upgrade from W8.1 to W10. Atfer that, the LY2, did not recognize the wi fi signals. I fixed it so easy, but it is a bad detail for an Lenovo or other recognized brans. After that issue, it has worked well. I dont have complains. Thanks
It'd be nice if the display was in 16:10 aspect ratio, which would be more generous in portrait mode (plus you get better vertical pixels in landscape).
Nice review Lisa. I believe that this laptop has a Sata HDD with a proprietory connector so conventional ssd wont fit also there is a slot for M2 ssd as well.
I just got one of these for college. It's great overall. I just wish the battery lasted a bit longer. Also, whoever thought to put the speakers on the bottom is an idiot.
Its interesting that there was such a delay after the pro model came out last year, now its going to be pitted against the new flex 2's in June which while ok dont have the full yoga aspect will also be available with a 1080p display and at $100 less even than this.
I did read that the main disk connector is not standard mSATA but a a special connector (SFF-8784), so one currently cannot easily pop in a standard SSD. However people have added SSDs (not for caching only) in the M.2 slot.
MobileTechReview Good day Lisa, I just bought this yoga 2. Is it worth it to upgrade to yoga pro 2 if I need PC for word, excel and light video? An extra $150 for pro 2. Is there a big difference?
Hi, thanks for the great vids 🌹.. i want to ask you what do you recomend for me asus zenbook ux303ln /i7, or lenovo yoga 2 13 / i7.. i do mostly M.office , movies, sometimes photoshop to edit some pics or let me say I just need to have it on my laptop just in case i need it 😂😂
Hi Lisa, I had a quick question about how SSD upgrades work, particularly how I get Windows 8 over onto the SSD as it was on the traditional HDD in which I will receive it. My biggest fear of course is reinstalling 8 onto an SSD and the Yoga not having that program which tells it what mode it is in, and turning it into a regular laptop. What are the steps involved? I am really shamed in asking this because I am a Network Engineer and I don't know this.
MobileTechReview I thought I heard you said it's possible to upgrade it with SSD 2.5"?? When I googled that it said its not upgradeable with 2.5". I do hope so since I've ordered it, but don't want the sshd.
Since the Pro is out of the question for me, would you recommend this or the original IdeaPad Yoga 13? The image quality is apparently better on Yoga 2 (though I don't really mind the lower resolution of the original) but the upgradability (or the lack thereof) is a big issue for me.
I bought this yesterday, going to return it tomorrow. Fan runs on 50% (over 100 page thread on lenovo forum with people that issue) or more all the time and the battery wont charge. Other than that, the form factor is amazing, I'm really sad that I'm having to return it.
MobileTechReview one question, you say to replace the HDD with a SSD. I have the Yoga 2 13" and if i replace the HDD, will i need to get a new copy of windows & how will i get the bundled software which came along with the lapatop??
Thanks, great review. Can you also do a review for acer aspire s3-392, i am looking for a laptop\ultrabook for my wife for her birthday...i would had preferred windows 10 but that is not out yet so any ideas for touchscreen with ssd, light and good battery priced between $600 and $900. Thanks.
The hinge on this computer breaks. I had to take it to the repair shop and they couldn't find a solution to it, but only to change the screw on it. However, every time i change it into tablet mode the hinge keeps breaking and I can literally see the inside of it.On the third month of buying it the hinge just broke on me without a reason every time I changed the position mode. I tried tightening the screw and didn't help at all. I am very disappointing on this matter. I still haven't finished paying it off and I am already spending extra money on it to get it repaired. It is only the left side that is broken, I just wish someone told me about this defect in Lenovo Yoga's.
+Jennifer Sanchez This sounds like a warranty case. I bought mine 6 weeks ago and so far I haven't had any issues with the hinge. Looks very sturdy to me and I'm changing modes quite often. I did however have some software issues since I upgraded to Win 10 but that's a different story...
What do you suggest ? The i5 version (orange)or the i7 (black) ? Is there a great difference in performance ? I was kind of thinking of getting the orange one but this confused me.same price and diff specs !
I ordered the i7 8GB RAM version with the SSD (but not the pro version). Model #59408081. Is the SSD in the same spot as the machine you reviewed here? Or is it in the m.2 slot, thus leaving the standard HDD spot empty? I want to add a second SSD to the machine. Can't find the answer anywhere...thanks. Great review by the way.
Is there any idea as to how much faster this lenovo would be if it were to have the 500gb sshd (16gb ssd)? I was looking at buying that model in particular, and have had no experience with anything other than spinning hard drives.
eric golden IMO it's not worth it all. I'd rather say quad hd display is for worse. It will consume more battery, old win32 apps will look terrible(small). I think full hd display is just fine for an 13 inch windows laptop.
this laptop would be perfect if it supported pen input :( i found a refurbished one with an i7, ssd, and QHD display for $600 but i need that pen support, i guess ill just go to the dell inspiron 13 7000
Great video thx for reviewing :) However, the M.2 slot IS allowing you to upgrade to SSD !!! Please add some extra information to your video or something. Source: forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Yoga-2-13-Internals/td-p/1472366
They are pretty much the same on the outside. Yoga 2 Pro has a much higher resolution than the regular Yoga 2, which is pretty much the only difference
TofuMaster536 good but now, I want to know, what material are they made? Is aluminum? I need that they be aluminum, because they do not overheat. I'm not very good for English. haha
Anderson Tibaduiza I'm pretty sure both are aluminum, the Pro has a more premium soft material on the inside where the keyboard is. Also I forgot to mention that the Pro is lighter and thinner.

Don t worry too mutch about games on the lenovo yoga 2 13 i saw it play games like cs go crysis 1 Bioskock infinite skyrim and others with no problem so i think it will play gmod and terraria withouth breaking a sweat
I can imagine the conversation in the product development department on this one: "Well Johnson other manufacturers are having success in the tablet market, and no one wants to buy our laptops, so lets smash the two into each other until they fuse together as one, and then sell it for $1000 Johnson!!!!!!!
here is my review after some months: 1.Wifi SUCKS. 2.Headphone jack not working sometimes 3.Resolution too high that cant see shit+ too much gap between pixels and they are oriented in a different way too.
this site tweakers.net/pricewatch/435150/lenovo-yoga-2-13-59425741/specificaties/ says this laptop has completely different specs then yours, but it's still the 2 13...
I bought Lenovo YOGA with windows 8 pre installed AND I think I wasted my money. This crap is not for heavy user . I should have picked up apple. Speaker are there for name sake. Window 8 another story
***** Yes, I was a thinkpad fan since T40 days. But it all ended after using T410s from lenovo for little over 1 year. The screen had large black/colored banding in its center. Making it compeletely unusable. After some research on internet, many people reported this problem as a factory defect. But lenovo refused to repair for free, since the warranty only lasted a year. A $1600+ laptop only lasted a year, good job lenovo!
euey feti So you got a dud and were unlucky with the warranty. There are plenty of other customers....presumably satisfied as Lenovo are selling very well.
Ken Heslip He's not really wrong. I have the Yoga 11S. I dropped it once off my bed, it landed on a pile of clothes, and the screen cracked and now the touchscreen doesn't work, the keys wear down and look like crap fast too. He's not wrong.
SnotRockets55 I dropped my Lenovo Idea Pad (I'm typing on it now) on CONCRETE and it did not crack the screen... You cannot generalize about an entire brand pr product line based on one or two individual units. Nor should you TRY.
