I think this is just a statement offer getting our name back in the mix of top clubs looking to buy top players. Getting the offer accepted was the easy part as Lille are currently being shafted by Madrid offfering less then market value so Lille just love getting a fair offer. Yoro actually accepting the transfer to United would probably be the biggest surprise of the summer, as I doubt there's any way he'll join United over Madrid. It's basically the same situation that Mbappe was, except no other club was dumb enough to try to bid for Mbappe because it was clear that the money didn't matter, either to the club or the player. The ONLY way I see that Yoro would come to United would be if they give him insane wages, which would be a laughably bad decision for many reasons. From Lille's perspective, they have almost no leverage at all, as Yoro is well within his right to ride out his contract and then join Madrid for free next year, and there's nothing they could do, short of holding him from playing for Lille at all and getting involved in player union rules and legal matters and whatnot, to force him to leave. To me, this is literally only a play at trying to drive down Everton's price of Brainthwaite, and I don't think that'll work either. We'll get De Ligt at 45mil or so and we'll probably end up overpaying for Brainthwaite and get him for like 60mil.

If Jorge Mendes is his agent I don't have much faith in the Real Madrid story. According Jorge Mendes Man City wanted to sign CR7 just to get Man Utd's head to turn around. By the time we have put in a bid ( this is not Murtorgh and the Glazers madness) research has been done on the player, Jorge Mendes was met by the INEOS team so I am sure talks with him have happened and he is more likely to join Utd than Madrid in my opinion.

Yoro will go to Madrid for 20m this season or next year for free, with a nice golden handshake for him and his agent as they will have saved the transfer fee. If he comes to United, when he wants to be at Madrid, he will see out his first contract and walk away to Madrid on a free at the end of it. If he doesn't want to be here why would he sign? Lille have no power over the situation, all the power is with players and their agents these days.

De Ligt was better at same age and look where he's at now. I'm not suggesting he's now a bad player but he's not gone on to reach the levels expected Some players peak early and Yoro deserves a bit of caution as well.

Our first signing of the summer is an example if that as AC Milan had no chance once United stepped in but Real are probably the only club (Maybe Barca) that can beat United in the same situation. To be more convincing, Utd should put a release clause in Yoro's contract..maybe 70-80m valid until a certain point like Haaland & Dortmund. By doing that, we are guaranteed that amount of money when we lose the player

We are making the mistake of again overpaying for potential rather than long term proven ability. If he goes to Madrid, you'll see that the total transfer package will not be more than 25-30 million euros. Even though Madrid is the richest club, it rarely overpays and buys players at fair values and is also not shy of dipping into the free transfer market as well. We also need to learn from them and take the same approach an learn to walk away from overpriced deals to look for other alternatives. For such high prices we should walk away from Yoro and Brainthwaite. Even Zirkzee is overpriced at this point. Look at what Dortmund has paid for Guirassey and just compare his record with Zirkzee for the past 4 seasons. You'll realise how poor we are at player valuations.
