Training with students from Ip Mans school is the most valuable learning that any serious wing chun exponent can receive. Amazingly fortunate. Thanks for sharing. Keep up your good work ❤🙏

To be honest it would be great to see more schools having a system like this. Most schools - the chi Sao is way too free so you don’t feel like you are advancing. That is why I left wing chun to join the wing tsun school by Leung Ting. Because they have very good chi Sao progression. I would say - this here is one of the best wing chun schools that I have seen anywhere. 10 out of 10. Although I have just seen the fundamentals - you can see that there is a system and advancement. Excellent.

At contact, when a stimulus is created, caused by excessive pressure, it does not matter if the direction is right, (that is, towards the central line), but there will always be a response that will cancel this pressure. To avoid this there is another approach to the arms accompanied by a particular movement of the torso and legs! It's the latest trial I'm doing and it works.

2:15 That's the same with us in Chen Tai Chi about the student thinking about the upper body first, and reaching out with his concentration later.

They are not standing close enough to hit each other, so they are training to react to someone striking thin air. Not how I was taught, so I’m curious to understand the benefit of training this way.

Training is really not about hitting each other. It’s more about impulse and your reaction to that impulse. Eventually my subconscious mind will be 3 even 4 steps ahead of my opponent. This way it’s impossible to be defeated. Its like becoming a chess master - for every movement there is a response. To hit hit hit - this is just feeding the ego, make you think you are good but really it’s missing the point of Chi sau. That’s my humble opinion.

I noticed that too. They are just demonstrating. I learned from the same Kung fu family and we square up by touching our fingertips to your partners chest so that you are in close quarters range, yet a closed fist punch is now just out of striking range so you can practice drills without injury while getting comfortable in fighting range. It's only 1-2 inches for them to step in on your attack or your step to connect. Cross the bridge. These guys are very high level and show all the basics and it's pure gold. Impeccable. I've met Thornton and he is a true master class of a human being and teacher.

To train long bridge, stance, elbow-yiuma connection. For beginners, you need to take the fear of the hit out of the equation so you can focus on structure, etc. It also translates to intercepting a punch as it comes from outside range to within range. Entry must be earned, not given. That is why it is also better to start chisao from long bridge range.

@@leowingchun that's cool. I honestly wouldn't care about hearing who was "better" just that hands were shared freely. We have lost much of our excitement of exchange in "exchange" for comfort and preservation of ego. If you believe your art contains something very special then you always seek to share it with others. I am glad you got to touch with a student at least. In the older days Ip Man WC students and their descendants would eagerly exchange when they meet and learn as much as they could often shifting the way they train.
