This sounds so solid live and but his record is produced like a cheap demo from 1960. Such a waste of some great songs :/

+Chris Seymour they recorded the entire album on vintage equipment from the 50's and 60's. Those guys busted their ass to record that album and give it a unique sound that no one is doing today. They were recording on reel to reel for christ sake. It takes a true craftsman to be able to record an analog these days in a world full of technology based recording.

Great voice, great band. But, I don't get it still. If I wanted to hear soul music, why would I listen to a copy when I can just listen to the originals? James Brown, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway ect. I wish he would use his obvious inspirations and do something new with it not just copy them.

Because music is always moving and changing and he's the latest incarnation with a fresh perspective. He's not just copying, he's brought his own vibe to the party. I'm sure the greats are looking down on him with approval.
