James Kalm is tardy, and slips into this opening just moments before it closes. As a confirmed painter, with a predilection towards pigment, your reporter is always pleased to share some of the best examples of this art form that appear in the New York galleries. This exhibition is the first of recent works by Kossoff seen in the city since 2000. Each piece is a testament to long hours and consistent overworking that have gained Kossoff his immense reputation. His subjects in this exhibition are a pathetically braced up cherry tree in his back yard, a local chapel, and a few friends who he's painted over decades.

He drawing is underrated. It is energetic, expansive and as precise as a sculptor going at a contour in bas relief. I saw a massive charcoal drawing from his Christchurch, Spitafields series in person, and it was magical. His figures are marvelous, his portraits well observed and compassionate.

I think the audio should have been added after the recording of the video and not during. At least I would rather watch these wonderful paintings without the background noise.

Dear James, They (Auerbach, Kossoff and Freud) are NOT from Eastern Europe. They are all Jews, it's not the same though. Kossoff was raised in - then - Jewish East London, Auerbach and Freud came to London as kids from Germany where they were born. Germany is not East Europe and has never been. I like Leon Kossoff too. Some of those paintings were in his show at Annely Juda in London last year. All the best James, Slawek
