Leon is the longest serving social integration activist in South Africa. I wish I could meet him one day. He is the actual GOAT social cohesion activist in South Africa.
Social cohesion activist, I mean ffs, can we stop activising everything, he's no activist he's a comedian, when was he ever a activist? Any person, goverment or institution which enforces social cohesion, or culture mixing, are making an error, cultures are made to seperate themselves from one another, all we've done, is looked at the bad instances, and started crying racism, not dismissing those who fought for freedom, but those who fought against freedom.
Funny, but also heartbreaking. Leon truly loved and understood his Afrikaner people. I wonder if any of them were in any way embarrassed at what they saw when he held up the mirror in front of them, though. Leon Schuster was a fearless and brilliant activist who showed people just how ridiculously superficial their biasses actually were. I have the utmost respect for this man.

While most white people were very racist back then (the norm in Apartheid South Africa), I think what mostly "calmed them down" was knowing they were being recorded lol

@@riedz786 There are many shops and public areas that whites can't go to for fear of being attacked or robbed. Even black people are in danger of other black people. A Black domestic worker I know was robbed of all her belongings in a toilet by three black men who dressed as women.

The AWB did a lot of PR damage to the Afrikaner when we could least afford it. Whoever thought that the Nazi SA was a good esthetic to model a political movement on just wasnt thinking.
Except it's not just the white people who are racist these days. One apartheid replaced by another. At least the other could run the country without looting it.
I don't say these pranks exposed racist behavior, more like he irritated the shit out of them to the point of where they could care less about being racist which they weren't, they were simply already irritated and stressed, and gatvol, like most South Africans, look from the beginning, nobody said or did anything to him, only when he became loud and liberal or left, like we see in America today.
It's amazing how we are all so quick to point out the obvious, yet don't see how alike we really are. How racist we are, and the government was... Does that mean for example if you are a member of the EFF and your leaders are openly racist, does make you one as well just by association? Afrikaners and African people actually have a history of getting along with each other and mutual respect. We had our differences and fought each other as well, but we actually respected each other, and left each other alone for the most part. What we did wrong was exactly what our current government is doing wrong. We gained power and put the wrong people in place to govern. Doesn't mean we all hate, are racist, or entitled. How can this country ever be united when all we do is highlight our differences? This comment section is a perfect example of that.

All this anger you have in you, can you imagine what you would achieve if you spent just 1% of all that hatred and anger on doing and saying positive things? I think Leon was trying to show the "benevolent intolerance"of the Afrikaner people. "Push me ,no problem coz ill ask you to leave but push me too far and ill klap you." Benign but only to a point. I think it was his attempt also of getting Afrikaners out of that protestant staidness and orthodoxy that pervaded their societies generally. But perhaps he wanted to bring a human element as well in that they could smile and laugh at having the Mickey taken. "LEON!!!"
