But that came from just hearing or reading or knowing that in the death camps, beside the crematoria, in certain of the death camps, a string quartet was pressed into performance while this horror was going on, those were the people whose fate was this horror also. And they would be playing classical music while their fellow prisoners were being killed and burnt. So, that music, “Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin,” meaning the beauty there of being the consummation of life, the end of this existence and of the passionate element in that consummation. But, it is the same language that we use for surrender to the beloved, so that the song - it’s not important that anybody knows the genesis of it, because if the language comes from that passionate resource, it will be able to embrace all passionate activity.” ~ Leonard Cohen

Leonard "Cohen" and some of its lyrics should ring some bells. You'll have to read between some lines as he doesn't shout it. But it's somewhat deeply there in his work and sometimes quite clearly evoked. I didn't thought about this song especially but i'm kind of glad someone makes the links. "The Stranger Song", "Tower of song" or some older poems like "Lovers" are instructive in that matter.

Leonard Cohen sees more than what has ever been presented to the public. I don't know if if he was ever sure his art would be more than just a journal of thoughts. What he shares is very private. He has a deep respect for life, pain and romance. Everyone needs an outlet that should be respected. Talk to him and ask him about this song if you have questions. Never assume.

*shivers* This song's always given me chills.. Leonard Cohen is brilliant.

Regarding those distasteful comments...I take what I want and leave the rest. I can usually leave the haters to hate and move on by focusing on all those that bring comfort and courage to this ongoing story, known as the holocaust.
