RIP Leonard. The world lost a true visionary. "Dont overcomplicate love, lets just keep it simple". So much is said in those 9 words. so much love.

In watching Leonard's pure childlike love and enthusiasm I can't help but think how PLEASED Jesus would be to walk through Salvation Mountain. He would have a huge smile on His face at the creativity and dedication of this man over so many years to share the message that "God is Love" and Jesus died for sinners. Thank God that Leonard kept the message simple!

I feel sorry for the 73 people that did NOT like this video. I guess they just need to be loved. God bless Leonard Knight! I hope I get the chance to visit Salvation Mountain one day.

I just hope that the people who look after the mountain now have as much passion and Love for it as Leonard did.

I remember being taken to see the mountain when I was just 9 years old. I didn't understand why someone would commit their life to such a simply task of painting a mountain and plaster Jesus and the Bible everywhere. Even to this day, I still can't get a grip on it. I'm in awe. Regardless of your religious beliefs, you can't deny the fact that this is a beautiful example of human creativity, commitment, and shear love. I feel happy knowing that I got to meet Leonard.

R.I.P. Leonard, know that flowers will continue to grow. I think God will show you more mountains painted with love like yours.

He passed away last February. Met him in April 2009. Amazing man.

I was lucky enough to meet Leonard Knight in 2003. He was such a kind, gentle soul. My grandparents in law knew him well. They winterd in Slab City for 45 years. They would collect paint and other things for him. He was just an awesome human being.

we are visiting salvation mountain tomorrow...i really hope someone can maintain this place now that leonard has passed....what a beautiful soul. rest with the angels.

Drove thru calipatria yesterday. Had to stop by Salvation Mountain. This place is simply amazing.

I like this dude's style, he just finds something he likes and does it.

Some of my best childhood memories are standing on the top of this beautiful creation and feeling the desert wind everywhere.. priceless!! God is good

I missed meeting Leonard by just over a year. I enjoyed my visit to Salvation Mountain as I could feel his presence & took the time to see every little detail as he would have wanted me to. I can’t wait to go back. RIP Leonard

it blows my mind thinking of all the moments and brush strokes and thoughts he must have had, every where there is paint out there he has spent a part of his life there. its amazing, its like seeing him become the human he has become throughout the course of 45 years years out there in the form of love and art. simply beautiful. things like this make me believe in the human race again. there is still beauty. thank god for him and people as unique as him.

i remeber watching into the wild movie and seeing this man .you could tell there wasnt acting he was telling emil hirsch what he thought of hes place and he woudnt move for 10 million dollors .you got to love the old man for what he done .respect to the man for taking years to do this. rip Leonard Knight

I went to go see salvation Mountain in 2014 and it was a beautiful place. My brother-in-law just went this week and it has fallen into such disrepair. I was so excited for him to see this place that I hyped up so much because it was so beautiful when I went, it was so disappointing to hear how much it’s fallen apart since.

Went there last year, I was sad when I found out Leonard was in an assisted living facility. Awesome project and fascinating what he has created with his life.

God bless this man as his work continues own after his passing. Hope it sends a powerful message to the lost state of California

I'm personally an atheist but faith is a really beautiful thing when it's paired with love and art.

this is the kind of person that makes it past 100 years old. hes got something that he loves to do and it keeps him moving and active and satisfied. people who dont retire and just keep active are the ones that live longer.

I remember this guy from Into the Wild! His scene was touching! I don't think there's anything better than seeing what makes a person so happy and enthusiastic. It's also nice to get a closer look at the artwork too, it's really quite somethin.

yes. he is at a convalescent home in san diego. he is not working in the mountain anymore. a group has formed to continue maintaining his work.

He served God in his own unique technocolored way. I like it. 9 hours a day for 50 years. Well done Leonard, you ran a good race. I will see you on the other side soon:)

I love the message of this man. Truly an inspiration. I think everybody owes to themselves to visit this amazing work of art (along with some other beautiful sights in Slab City).

"I've had 40 motorcycle groups come in 10 o clock at night one time and i was really tired and i was kinda grumpy. And they said well we all got flashlights, and we want a flashlight tour! And It was the most fun I've ever had!" hahaha

What do you want? He's a charmingly weird, old guy and he's devoted his life to a work of art. Even if you don't agree with his message, his art is beautiful.

Don't get why so many people care about other people's views on God. That's them and what they believe. If you don't believe in God that's your business, as for me I do believe in God and I believe Jesus died for our sins, he is our savior, but that's just me. I don't try and force others to feel like I do because who am I to judge. But to atheists, please don't judge me or anyone else who does not believe like you do. Don't try to shove the "God is not real" talk down our throat. For people hating on this man and I don't understand why, let him believe what he wants. I never will understand why people make such huge deals with other people's beliefs, it's not like they are hurting you. He is about love. We all need to spread love, not hate. RIP Leonard Knight. Despite being in the middle of nowhere this place is sooo much fun to visit, along with the squatter town (Slab City) next door and the natural hot springs.

We went there around 2010 and met this beautiful, marvelous , dedicated, religious, wacky man. He was so kind, gentle and God loving. We will never see one like him again. Godspeed, Leonard. If there's a God, you are in His presence.

this work of art reminds me of casapueblo in Uruguay. Done by hand as if thy were caves, just that salvation mountain has a more religious message. If Leonard ever gets to read this, thank you very much for your hard work and dedication.

He's not destroying the environment he built on the hillside with hay and adobe if you listened. It's kinda like painting a house. I also loved the message of love he was trying to send.

Leonard has been in a rest home for quite a while. He recently had cataract surgery which went successfully. He's scheduled to visit the mountain on May 19.

I am not religious and it’s really hard for me to believe in god but I love this and I love god I love what believing in god does for people. This man isn’t crazy he loves something and feels loved he is blessed truly.

I dont see how anyone could view this as anything negative, Im not religious but this creation is simply beautiful and you have to love that old man for spending his entire life building something as great as this. Its made so simply and with donated materials but the outcome is nothing less than magnificent.

If the whole world thought like Leonard Knight , wouldn’t it be a lot easier to live in .
