To my German friends, on behalf of all Canadians we would like to thank you for the best tank in the world the Leo 2a6m that we were using in Afghanistan as the video shows. Awesome piece of kit, when the enemy see's or hear them coming the run like a friggng chicken.
Hey wilflundy. Respect from a fellow CF veteran. Run like a chicken. I love it! We in the CF have a lot to thank Deutchland for. But the Leopard is chiefest among them. I got to serve in Lahr and Geilenkirchen. It was my honour.
Welcome to the annual international tank competition in Russia - Russian Tank Biathlon. In 2019, 39 countries took part. The rules allow the use of its equipment and machinery (China acts on its tanks). 10 days of exciting tank crew competitions in military skill. In 2019, Russian women's crews demonstrated their skills as follows. All videos are publicly available. We are waiting for your wonderful technique, which will give viewers and fans new enthusiastic emotions.
Oh that is so true, Canada uses the Leo's as well and they are an awesome piece of kit. We first purchased the leopard 1's in the late '70's, then later the leopard 2's and now we use the new leopard 2A6M's that were also battle proven and used in places like Afghanistan. Canada also learned many of the tactics that you speak about from Germany and to go with it we have the best tanks in the world thanks to Germany. Cheers!
Hey come on! We have a joint tank batallion training together in Germany and we are building the Boxer together. We should improve on that ! Fighting and training together develops strong bonds, which is a good thing to have with our Dutch neighbours. Said by the German/Dutch hybrid!
Isn't there a dutch/german combined armor brigade now? EDIT: Yes there is. The 414th Armor Bataillon. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0f/PzBtl_414.jpg

777fuzzypeach But more importantly, does the Merkava 4 also have a sprinkler system of sorts to wash the blood spatters off? You don't want caked Palestinian blood to render its systems inoperative, do you?
The best tank at the moment (and the most expensive) is the Leopardo 2E, but the only new generation tanks that proves their combat eficiency was the M1 Abrams and the Merkava IV
the Leopardo 2E is the most advanced tank over the world, and is the spanish version of the Leopard 2A6. The Leopard 2 and the Challenger never fight vs other tanks, not like the Abrams.
A LEOPARD 2 a világ leggyönyörűbb,legméltóságteljesebb,legmegbízhatóbb,legerősebb harckocsija.Mindig is elbűvölt.Egyszerűen félelmetesen fantasztikus!!!!!!!!!!
Great Video! The mixture of this fascinating, epic song combined with the strength and symbolic untouchably of a modern MBT gives me the power and courage to make things which are difficult to deal with.
@Mister Privacy because turkey use an old leopard 2 (2a4) in street battles. the leo 2a4 dont have a protection to anti tank missiles. first the leo 2a6. (sry for my bad english)
Now we have the Leopard 2SG operating in the tropical jungles in Singapore. Something really different from the European temperate, or desert conditions the Leopard is used too. A new milestone.
siemensohm That's the point. The Leopard "is based" on the Tiger and Panther - even the name (designation). Also from 1943 is the ME-262 - great plane. Germany today (with better access to raw materials and know-how) gets 70 years later (almost to the day) not even a drone out.
Thomas M. Goldstein based on the Tiger and Panther? I think not! Read a book about the Leopard-MBT and u understand more as now. Bildung tut wohl manchen Leuten echt weh. *facepalm*
Ser. Hudson Aber natürlich, der Leopard 2 ist in seiner Gesamtentwicklung vom Himmel gefallen. Du hast Recht und ich meine Ruhe vor derartigen Bildungsgranaten.
I'm British and a Challenger 2 lover but my god the Leopard 2 is quite simply EPIC. I think it edges all the other MBT's out there including the challenger!
I'd like to point out that on paper the Abrams, and the Leo 2 are very evenly matched. They have similar armor, the same horse power, and the same gun. They both spawned from the MBT 70 program which was a joint US/German effort to produce a common main battle tank. The program didn't meet expectations, but the US, and Germany went on to make very similar tanks. They're both superb. I personally like the Leo 2 more though.
There was a reason why Finnish Defence Forces changed shitty T-72M:s to Leopards and refusesd to buy expensive Abrams's. Because Leo 2 is a superior in every way! Thank you Germany for manufacturing the best tanks in our whole military history! Greetings from a Leopard 2A4 driver. Alfa-03 out :)
Oh man when I watch this video I want to be a tank commander although I hate war. This tank is world's best. I come from austria and I can tell you that it is not the best country for to live if you are into weapons. In austria many people hate guns and espacially the austrian army. Nice greetings from austria, greets chris.
The modified gun performed well. It had the same penetration power with tungsten rounds, as the L/44 has with DU rounds. The US MoD just didn't want to buy a new gun, while the next generation gun was already under development. Plus, they saw no neccessity to replace their DU rounds, although there was proof for their negative long-term effects on the environment and its inhabitants.
watched it a thousand times and every time i want to see it again even more...its like heroin, its doesnt only make you addicted, but addicted from the addiction!
The amount of additional work required to build a quality tank over a cheap tank is massive. Meanwhile the advantage of the expensive tank is much smaller. Plus, a cheap tank can be built by a much larger amount of workers. The low quality of the T-34 made it a war winner. The germans produced great tanks, they just weren't adapted for the situation.
Less than hour ago, i were walking outside... i did hear powerfull diesel train sound on nearby tracks. In blink of an eye my muscles were jammed for second or so in my mind i saw my self in pothole in the darkness hearing lp2 crawling in the woods! gives my chills still after 6 years when i left army. When will this end? i were panzer jaeger and not afraid of tanks... but i will not forget that simulated war camp. Huh! i can still feel that ground shaking in my bones!!!
Looks like the German manufacturer and the French developing company of the Leclerc are fusing and will develop a Leopard 3. Can't wait to see what that will bring.
prolamer7 and switch the gearbox so that itll have 2 forward gears and 7 reverse. What I find painfull is that they put the headquarters of the company in the netherlands. Whats wrong with that? Well we sold most of our tanks because of budget cuts and people who think tanks have no use anymore. We do keep 1 in a museum and about 15 in a joint program with Germany. But its not enough. We used to have 1000 tanks during the cold war and 440 or so leopard 2's for some time :(
Barbarossa Errare dont know if the French tank was good or bad. Never dealt with it. I do have some experience with the Leopard and, with the latest updates, it's a fantasic machine. Something I would very much trust in combat. Can't say the same for quite a few other machines.
But then they have precedent. Mauser is known as one of the finest weapons manufactures in the world. Then add into the fact that they've been in the center of so many wars that they've went with the 'make sure our troops would make the enemy absolutely BLEED by being of excellent quality' and ran with it. Prussia showed that no matter how many troops you have, its all for naught if they're not well trained.
Rumor has it that the negotiations for sending the Leopards to Ukraine hinged on whether the Germans were going to include the matching umbrella. Thank God the Germans caved, and they're including the umbrella😏
Leopard and Abrams are basically based on the same tank but have different mentalities to them. The Leopard is designed for a blitz in mind, Abrams is based on American ideals of a tank, i.e. fast, powerful, and an armored brick. The only problem is that one uses a powerful diesel and the other uses a turbine. Overall Leopard is better than an Abrams in terms of firepower, ease of maintenance, and protection (i.e. does not use DU for protection). Oh, the MG3 is a direct descendant of the MG42.
Actually I do know. But, there is also another reason. The Leo2A6's L55 gun can launch standard tungsten rounds at 1800m per second to equal and slightly surpass US M829A2-3 DU ammunition in terms of penetration. The US restricts the sale of top of the line DU ammunition to its closest allies. The Saudis have some older M829 ammunition (1990's flavor) but not the stuff we use. This makes the Leo2A6 vastly superior to M1A2 EXPORT tanks in 2 critical areas Armor & Firepower. I don't blame them.
They tested it on the many 'targets' they acquired after the reunification of Germany. We're talking top of the line stuff, T-80s and what not. Instead of scrapping them, they used them for target practice. :)
Tanks are obsolete, missile technology is cheap, a small machine shop can make a missile system capable of taking out a modern day multi-million dollar tank from a mile away. The power of internet makes this info available to everyone the world over. Knowledge is power.
@majorgeeek The combustion motor was developed by Otto. The explosion motor was developed by Rudolf Diesel, therefore its a Diesel engine and the Rotation motor was developed by Wankel, the electric motor and dynamo was developed by Werner von Siemens,.. etc. et cetera...
The sloped armour of a tank isn't meant to deflect shells anymore. Modern anti-tank rounds are either APFSDS or shaped charges. APFSDS are deformed and destroyed when hitting sloped armour and shaped charges do detonate on sloped armour but due to the angle, the LOS thickness is stronger than that of a normal armour. Plus, these sloped armourplates are also spaced to increase protection against shaped charges.
Glad to finally see those titans in real action by our canadian friends, our government is so embarrasing... they don't want to send our soldiers down there the Leopard or anything else, it's so pathetic. Hope you have fun with this tank!
Actually, the Leopard series and the M1 series are both descendants of the same tank, the MBT 70 prototype. Its just that the US military went with what worked (pretty much having an aircraft engine/descendant of an aircraft engine in every tank) while everyone else used Diesel engines which are known to be inferior to aircraft engines in shear horse power, however, the M1 proved exemplary to Patton's ideal tank, the Leopard is simply based on German tank know how based on the Panther and Tiger.
