@@sifudunng7117 I have a question. I started implementing this into my routine and I'm doing the long swipes (3:00). The thing is that my hands kind of feel like they're overstretching when I do this. It feels a bit tingly. Should I continue doing it anyway to condition the body? Or should I maybe warm up a lot more? Or not do this one yet and do other stuff first and stretch my wrists more?
@sifudunng7117
@sifudunng7117 3 года назад
@@TheToneBender Ah... great question! The tingles are absolutely normal especially when you're putting a lot of power in to the motion and that due to the centrifugal force generated which send blood rushing to the hands. You're swinging with great power, and actually probably more than you need. You also may be tensing a little early. But that means you're probably doing correctly though. Keep going just ease of the power a little, and make sure you're tensing as you are passing through your area in which you're striking. Thanks for watching and the great question

@Sifu Dunng Sifu, I had a question regarding the animal styles. I see it's practitioners always knowing more than one animal style. 1) Is it a pre-requisite to learn all animal forms to become a decent student of the art? 2) Is it possible to focus solely on one animal style? say. Leopard form, and learn it really well to be able to apply it and grow better exploring just that one form alone. The reason I am asking this is: I really want to learn one form, Leopard thoroughly and practice it. Not necessarily for combat, but more as a way to be part of a martial arts heritage as well as learning something of historic value, more than, just my daily gym routine. 3) Finally, for a beginner, who is already physically fit. How many years would it take to learn one form Leopard, if they practice it 5 times a week? I understand that Mastery is a life long journey. But to be able to internalize the form to remember it for the rest of my life is my goal not mastery or being the best. Thank you.
@sifudunng7117
@sifudunng7117 3 года назад
@@neoblackcyptron It is not necessarily a pre-requisite to learn all the animal styles to learn a particular animal. More doesn't necessarily mean better. However, Leopard or panther is represented in many styles of martial arts and some times requires you to have an understanding of that style, the way it moves, and its philosophies to understand how that style may approach the Leopard and its teachings. I think its great to dedicate yourself to understand as much as you can to embrace that style of training, although don't miss out on some of the crucial training and lessons that lead up to the final goal. Study how other styles move, and how that be an advantage or disadvantage to the leaopard. Time is all relative. A person can train for an hour or 2 hours a day but if their mind and focus is not present in what they do then its just a workout, however a person can spend 15 -20min of focused training to really understand the movements and body mechanics to make themselves better and be just as, if not more effective in their approach. So whether you training 10 min to hours in a day be present and be focused of what your goals are. Enjoy the journey!

Hello, Sifu Dunng, I'm doing research on a fighting style for one of my original characters to animate with and I was wondering a couple of things: 1. Is it possible to combine two different animal fighting styles? 2. My character's fighting style is based around being close to their opponent and hanging closely to the ground before striking. Is there any style/styles that fit this style to some degree? Thank you for answering if you do, love the videos !
@sifudunng7117
@sifudunng7117 3 года назад
Thanks for watching. 1.It is totally possible to combine animal styles. In Kung fu, one can transition from one to another to accommodate the opponents reaction to a technique in both forms and fighting. 2. You may want to look in to Capoeria. This has some both high and low dynamic movements. Some come from a crouching stance.

@WhatDoYouReallyMean 2 года назад
@@ismoilnosirov1344 Loose? Where? Your stance? Is this being practiced like an internal style? In which way is fa-jing generated if your stance is "loose" or open? More detailed answer please. At 4:10 to 4:20 in the video both heels come off the ground and the feet rotate forward on the balls of the feet when the strike is made. This disrupts rooting. Usually one foot stays planted while the other may make some other movement. Maybe I am missing the focus of this particular fighting method. Internal or external.

Sifu, this may be a very premature question to ask and of course, it would be at the most advanced stages of Leopard Style but what weapons are trained if Leopard is to be the only style of Kung Fu trained. And can Leopard be the only style or do you go through the other 4 animals(Dragon, Tiger, Snake and Crane)? I want to train in this style.
@sousalarson6858
@sousalarson6858 2 года назад
Before you train any animal style, you should train wushu/kung fu basics. Learn stances, learn jumps, learn falls, learn how to learn a form and how to construct a form. After all that you can start looking into specializations like styles. You can decide to pick one style and focus on it and only train that style. But remember that each animal os also linked with an element which is also linked with an aspect of the art. If you spend too much time focussing on one style/element, you loose perspective on the others. Too much speed without enough grounding or balance or power wont get you far. As far as weapons go, the animal kind of it the weapon. With the exception of monkey staff, i have never seen an animal style that also uses a weapon. You might see weapon forms that include an element or two of other styles (i have a tiger claw rake in my fan form) but leopard, tiger, crane dont have their own weapons. (at least in modern taolu wushu that i habe seen)

@@michaelbatts7149 Thats awesome! There is so much out there that trying to do only one style your whole life isnt really as beneficial as people might think. But make sure you do pick one thing at a tome to learn. Trying to learn a bunch of styles at once just makes it all that much harder. I do changquan, broadsword, staff, pudao, fan and daggers and did a leopard form once. I want to train double hooks, chainwhip, double broadsword, double fan, unicorn horn blades, tiger, nanchuan and maybe spear. And i want to start doing lion dance! Striking with the leopard fist takes a little time to get the coordination. The bottom of the hand, or palm portion is used for the pawing motion, where the ridge of the knuckles are used for striking. All training should be done slow till you understand the timing and distance before sparring to prevent accidents. You'll get it, just don't be in to much of rush.
