I Wan to buy this along with the Dayton Audio 6" 2-way speakers on Parts Express for around $50. I would like to also use my 12" Infinity powered sub woofer.....What would you consider the best way to do that with this amp?
These, and the older T amplifiers, are absolutely perfect for diy’ers that enjoy building small portable Bluetooth speakers units. (Although, this definitely makes it trickier if you’re attempting to build a rechargeable battery powered version.)
I checked those speakers out online, and it says the recommended amplification power is 20-150 watts. Since this amplifier only can handle 20 watts, I'd recommend getting something a bit more powerful. Try checking out some of Pyle's mini home amplifiers, my friend has one and they work great.
You might be able to use them with bigger speakers, but they might not power the speaker at full volume. As long as the dc battery is 12 volts, you can just hook it right up to the amp since the amp is designed to run off of 12 volts dc. If the battery isn't 12 volts you'll have to step up or step down the voltage.
If it is using the TA2020 and not a Chinese copy of the chip (which could be good for way less sound power or have other issues like clipping), TA2020 is 20W per channel @ 4 Ohms. Driving an 8 Ohm speaker you'll get a maximum of 12W per channel.
Well, considering car audio is 4 ohms, you should get about 25 watts rms per channel. This amplifier is not designed to be bridged, so you'd be stuck with just 25 watts with only right or left audio. Sound would probably come out of the subwoofer, but it definitely wouldn't go too loud.
Ever tried the amp with a more powerful power supply? Just wondering if that could possibly improve the clipping? Thanks for a helpful video! Just out of curiosity have you ever tried the Cheng Sheng hs-9004 amp? If so, how does it compare to this one?
That's not feedback when you push the button to engage the tone controls. The tone circuit is just noisy as it is basically a type of amplifier of sorts that boosts or cuts certain frequencies. Its boosting a lot of high end that takes the noise and makes it audible. You have just raised the noise floor. Feedback is just that, signal that gets fed back through the amplifier creating a loop. What ever frequencies are the loudest are what will be re-amplified the most. Feedback can occur without a microphone or other transducer but it is unlikely in your case. Just sayin' :-)
Craig, give 'em a break. at least he admitted it. Not everyone knows stuff like that. I am not saying it takes an audiophile to know it, but nonetheless, at least he reviewed it rather thoroughly and clearly. Where is your review of something audio so we can compare? :) Good job OP. Your review is helpful. Keep up the good work.
I put this amp in a homemade boombox running off of a 10.5 amp hr sla battery driving a pair of 6.5 in pioneer speakers and the sound is AMAZING! although I am going to have to replace the volume pot as sometimes the left channel cuts out and I have to wiggle the volume knob to correct it, no biggie, I only paid 18.95 for the amp with free shipping from amazon, you can't hardly buy a diy amp kit for that!
You`re only getting 20watts with 4 ohm speakers...With that speaker there you`re only getting 12watts and it will distort way before 12watts so you`re probably getting 9 or 10watts realistically. Need really efficient speakers to hear this at its best
This should connect to your truck's power with no problems at all. I do recommend connecting it to a fused power line. Because a truck/car battery holds a lot of power, you risk causing a fire if you don't use a fuse.
That one definitely doesn't look like its 80 watts. A lot of the chinese manufacturers lie about the true wattage. I've seen Kinter amps advertised to be over 100 watts that were really only 5 watts. If you're willing to spend around $40, pyle makes really nice mini amplifiers that produce the real wattage they advertise.
Hey quick question, i made a ammo can speaker box. Running 2 4" 200w Max boss speakers and I ran that kinter m170 from your other video and it blows. In your opinion in a side by side comparison would you prefer this amp over the kinter?
it really isn't putting out that much power because, v times c equals p. that is only a 2 amp power supply at 12 volts. 12 x 2 = 24/2 = 12w peak, and more like 10w or 8w R.M.S.
It may have something to do with the speaker in this video. I've also used this amp to power a bit larger tower speakers and it could play them at about half volume. I'll have to also test this amp with a lead acid battery.
hi how would this be possible to use with headphones what would i need i tried plugging headphones in but when i turn volume up they just play through the speakers.
Good short video on your amp. Me myself use Dayton Audio DTA 120.Its 60watts per channel for a 4olm load. There neat little amps I find them very versatile for what you need them for. Andrew
Bruh you lying mmm oh my god stop fukin lyin. You just commented on another video saying you paid 20 bucks and asking another dude how he got his For 13
Well done! Nice overview of the product. Although I would personally recommend something like the SMSL SA-36 or SA-50 if you can afford it. Better sound and build quality, more compact as well.
Hello I had a question, I am doing something similar but the sound quality just isn't there, the base is too much. For example for a song the singer seems to be singing like in a tunnel and the majority of the sounds if bass. Also for some reason when I hook it up to my PC it just stops for some reason like their is a problem. Is there supposed to be a specific setting I am supposed to have my pc set to? I am using a pretty large Insignia speaker.
The amp sounds great! I am going to get a vinyl turntable and this amp to power the turntable. I dont need a radio reciever because I dont intend to listen to the radio anyway. I think this will be perfect for my needs.
Will this amplifier work to boost the volume on my outdoor deck speakers? I have separate speaker wires that come from the receiver in my house to separate volume controls in each room including one line for my deck . The outdoor speakers are bigger and won’t give me enough sound compared to the interior house speakers. Can I use the Lepai-LP2020A to boost the volume to the deck and where would I install it?
I am building a cooler boombox with 2 6x9's. Would this amp be sufficent to power them? Im not trying to max them out but but would like them to get loud... If not what would a better option be without spending couple hundred bucks on a full size car stereo amp
Hi , I intent to own one , but the online sales company produce two model . One is lepai and the other one is lepy .But the company claim that Lepy is the latest version only the name is changed . But I see that the model LP 2020 A ... no + symbol . But is a D class and not a T class . to your experience which one would you recommendReply•
My favorite parts were 'I'm eternal that sucks sexually' at 2:28 and 'bottom out around his balls' at 4:13. I'm using the CC option as I have no sound on my computer at the moment, which is why I need the amp.
hmmmm, i used this amplifier for one of my own projects. i used a 12v 12ah lead acid battery. i had 2 x 5inch subs, with some tweeters. and 2 x mid range which were 8 ohms at 25watts, and the subs and tweeters were rated at i think 60watts, now, when i housed these speakers and connected everything up. i could turn this thing up full blast and have it on for about 6 hours before it started dying, in that time, i recived no clipping. the mids were 8 ohms, and the other speakers were 6 ohms.
I'm thinking on putting this in a minitruck with a custom speaker box. Will I have issues using the trucks power for this? Im not looking for a boom sound, I just want to connect my phone and listen to some music. Any recommendations?
this amp seems to run on mono means L and R is join together i tried it out and it turns out to be true idk others are like this but i would be taking it apart and see if the amp is stereo or mono
Ive got a pair of bi-wire speakers laying about, they each have two sets of of cable that are labelled HI and LO. Would I be able to connect them to this?
this one is superior in every way. The thripath chip doesn't distort at higher volumes. I own a ta2020 pcb and the lp-838 and prefer the ta2020. But i must say: the lepai is easier to hook up and has more functions
The Tripath ta2020 chip is phenomenal.....you can take this amp up the Audiophile range of source's and speakers. I know some people would laugh at that, the would not laugh when the heard my Vienna's sound off, is is really something.. Love the Lepiai's
connect one of these amps per speaker (bi amped) to a 10a power supply and be prepared to be blown away, these amps can only deliver 20 watts with a 5 amp supply. ive got one of these amps connected per speaker, L and R outputs going to the tweeter and midbass seperately on my wharfedale diamond 9.1 speakers, the sound rivals my 1980 sony TA-636, with a decent power supply they sound identical to a class a/b amp. so basically what im saying is get a pair of bi wirable speakers, 2 of these amps and a 10a 12-14v DC power supply WITH GOOD QUALITY COPPER CABLE
The link to banggood has what appears a fake or low quality clone. Image shows it saying "Class-D" on front of case, this is, and always has been, a Class-T amp. Ohh, and it says "Lepy" instead of Lepai. LOL
It's a lot better with at least a 4 amp power supply to prevent voltage sag. I tested it with my brother's hard drive power supply which was 12V 2 amp before buying a 12V 4 amp one.
You have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to sound and amplification. That white noise is not feedback. It due to a shitty ground somewhere on the unit.
I tried to tell myself that this amp is as good as the Arcam Alpha 7 separates amplifier I had 20 years ago but really class d amplifiers are for fun on the move in your car and are not to be taken seriously. Still enjoyable.
