While I'm not exactly in support of Lepin, I do not think the issue is as clear cut as, "LEGO good, Lepin bad." For instance, a lot of the preference for Lepin seems to revolve around accessibility. People are turning to the pirated option because the legit option is just too expensive or isn't in stock anymore. This makes sense. The same thing happens with video games (i.e. emulation being the alternative to retro gaming, it being inaccessible). On another note, people seem to be raising this idea that Lepin is unfair to the designers and is some sort of betrayal to them; however, it is worth noting that LEGO doesn't ever credit their designers on their respective sets. I point this out because it's silly for people to be morally grandstanding about LEGO piracy. LEGO will be just fine. The movie industry freaked out about piracy in the mid-2000s and then nothing happened. It didn't even budge the box office. I'm sure LEGO will be the same. They'll finish suing Lepin and this will all blow over. Someone who pirates is not a lost customer- they were never a customer in the first place.
For me I would never buy my 12 year old this $900 set in a million years. But I've seen this lepin set much more obtainable. I'm def considering for next xmas. LEGO didn't loose out cause I was never going to buy the real one anyways.
I will only support buying piracy when the model is out of stock. Otherwise if you can’t afford it you can’t afford it , as easy as that. No one has ever died for not owning a lego set. Go buy a smaller set instead. The only reason there is piracy out there is because people care shit about the designers and all the effort and sweat involved on its creation. Try explaining your kids that you are buying them piracy ( stolen creativity) in order to make them happy and let me know what they think. Are those the values you want to promote in the next generation, now wonder why our world sucks today ?
If you cant afford it, do without or save up, lepin is not worth no matter how much cheaper. I have experience with lepin and it's not worth it, the pieces start to come off on their own it's garbage.
@@Santanilla fuck that noise, and fuck your high horse, its goddamn plastic. Not to mention LEGO stole the brick design from kiddie craft so who cares. it doesnt hurt anyone to buy the knock off version of something I'd never of bought otherwise.
As a person that has bought Legos his whole life, I can testify that the prices for Legos has been rapidly increasing in the past 10 yrs. Way above the inflation.
It’s not legos fault, it’s disney’s They want money, lego knows they can’t go that far but they have no choice, that’s why many sets are always at %30 off, they simply alternate.
This aint a discontinued set though. if he was willing to spend over 200 to get this fake inferior version then he isn't a true collector. He is a bitch.
Darth Bane I’m sorry but not everyone has $1,099 to spend, this looks extremely similar and still good so why spend over a THOUSAND dollars for a company label?
It’s a lego set man, literally a toy made and designed by a toy company. You all are attacking a person who doesn’t have the money to get the real product so he opted for a less expensive model, it’s just like buying a cheaper truck that’s almost the same as another model from a different company, that’s design was probably copied, but no one gives a shit because it’s almost the same truck for a cheaper price. The point is, is that it really doesn’t matter, and saying “oh LEGO made the design and there just copying, so anyone who buys it is evil”, is just stupid, it’s just being smart enough to get a better deal
Cameras: For timelapse I use an SJCAM SJ9000, for all other shots I use a Canon 650D Computer: AMD FX-8350, 16GM Ram, GTX 1060 6GB (a somewhat modest system by todays standards I would say) Software: Adobe Premiere CC
I have wanted the original UCS Falcon for a decade now. Even now I have 3 jobs and still can't afford the new one at retail price, it's insane. I love Lego and spent a ton of money (and my parent's money too) on sets over the years but this is just insanely priced so I'm pretty likely to get this set. I simply cannot afford the official one and this is pretty much the last chance I have before I head off to university to build the thing.
They should, but I will continue to buy the sets I want like the falcon, was so much fun putting together and every time I look at it I smile so satisfying.
The only love I will ever give Lepin, is that they are providing a building experience, even though they didn't dream it up themselves, to markets that would normally never get to have such a thing. There are plenty of 'barely making it' parents in the USA that would gladly take the Lepin solution, in a heartbeat. It's still intellectual theft, and quality wise, they cut every corner imaginable, not so much with manufacturing, but printing, designers, and those oh-so costly licensing agreements.
@@fritospie7982 Not all sets are that expensive. Also its not all that irresponsible. Buying the real $1000 version would be irresponsible. They're just toys. get over yourself
Bakamatsu Get over yourself, sir. My point still stands. If you are barely making it, under no circumstances should you buy your kid a 200 dollar toy. First world problems
What you said makes no sense. You're still saying you're ok supporting theifs, because other people do it too. You don't justify you're bad actions based on other peoples bad decisions.
@@fritospie7982 It makes perfect sense. Allow me to explain. The original comment was this: " how many people complain about theft from Lego, download movies and music." He is pointing out the hypocrisy of people with pirated content complaining about pirated products. So if someone has illegally downloaded movies and/or music on their computers, and they bitch about lepin, that would be hypocrisy. This is only a comment on other people's hypocrisy, this is not a defence for buying the pirated product in the first place. A sort of "he who is without sin" kind of situation.
Awsome review! Totaly understand why you bought Lepin. 800$ for the lego set is stupily high. Their is nothing justifying those prices besides greed. LEGO don’t even pay designers much money so it’s hardly the reason why their sets costs an arm and a leg.
I have a mix of Lego and Lepin. I found this set great fun to build. The tolerances on the bricks are somewhat short of the Lego units, but this is reflected in the price point. As it’s a static display item, this is not a problem, although I have found that it has sagged with time.
I purchased this set. It was advertised as discounted lego and showed up in a plain brown box a foot and a half square. I have never felt so torn between feeling ripped off and extreme warm fuzzies. No, I'm not letting it go. I'm never gonna give it up.
Do the bricks have a hard time connecting? I have never bought a Lepin set before but for the price of this set I might think about buying it. Great review!
The 900 piece count difference is odd alright. I know Lepin do count their parts differently, like each minifigure counts as anywhere from 6 to 10 parts as they count the head, headpiece, torso, each arm, hand, leg and midsection. And the same goes for any moving or hinged piece that can be split into two bricks. But yeah, thank goodness for numbered bags... I got the Executor Super Star Destroyer a week ago, and it took me 8 hours just to sort through the parts...
lorcan0c ya I think I heard about how they count the mini figs as you described, but didn't know about the other hinged pieces... Still seems like a big difference though, oh well, haha Damn, ya the SSD took me a while to sort as well, but sorting ahead of time is definitely worth doing.
Aliexpress. Provides chinese goods internationally. Shipping can be a hassle sometimes, depending on what seller you go with and what kind of handling they offer or how reliable they are, but I've yet to have a bad experience with them.
Nikioko no, but i like building stuff and i’m not gonna pay hundreds of dollars for it, if lego didn’t want so many knockoffs they would just cheapen their products, And its legal to buy so i’m not violating any laws
I understand peoples point on fake vs real but i refuse to waste 700 bucls for a star wars dropship that comes with a tank....when i can go and get a lepin replica for 88 ...yea lego is lego but in rare instances id buy lepin for example the gunship and dropship 59 for gunship and 88 for dropship.
How does the overall quality of this kit compare to authentic Lego? Are the bricks & panels as solid / rigid and does the finished build feel stable when lifted?
Larger authentic Lego panels/plates have always been better than lepin in almost every measurable way. While I don't have a Lego version of this set to compare with, I have found no problems with the overall sturdiness of this set. It feels very solid, some small cosmetic pieces have shitty clutch strength, but the main pieces hold together very well.
JohnZorZ84 I really hope you respond so I can get some advice. I wanted to know if a year later it’s still holding up because I’m not fortunate enough to buy the real one but the lepin one would be affordable as a main x mas gift . So I just wanna know if any cracks or falling apart
Nice review. How do find the quality, for example the bricks holding together and clicking together? I have a 2 lepin sets and one is better than the other (the new one is better). I have the Lego MF just don't know if I want to keep it or sell it and buy more sets with the spare cash. It was a Lot of money (1300 in AU)
thehaytch I find the vast majority of bricks hold together very well, the only bricks that sometimes seem to not hold together so well are the little tiny binocular looking pieces with little plastic rods. Just little surface detail pieces, the structural pieces hold together as strong as Lego in my experience.
JohnZorZ84 thanks for the reply. Another thing to think about with lepin is that it may actually be Lego themselves capturing the low end of the market that way they can still capitalise on the IP. The other thought is as with all manufacturers when they move to China (Lego in 2015 I believe) is that they teach china how to make their products and then the Chinese just copy it. They kind of brought it on themselves, I have seen it with many products
i think that a part from the extra 904 pcs came from the minifigure torsos and hands because they are counted by lego as one piece but they are actually five
I've never ever had a Lego™ set where I had to assemble every single little piece of the mini-figures, like I had to with this Lepin kit. With two hands and two arms to attach to each torso, each bottom part also came as the hip bit and two separate legs (thats' six more pieces per figure than Lego would have had). I also suspect that they may have used smaller pieces for, say, panels, but I haven't had a chance to compare with the original (though for completeness I plan to get one eventually).
piracy is horrible, and evil. However, after after a Lego employee went out of her way to make my wife, who at the time was fighting stage 3 cancer, feel worthless and unwanted and not good enough to shop at a Lego store, I FULLY support anyone buying Lepin. Lego can burn in hell for all I care
I would agree that one shouldn't judge a company by the actions of a single person. However, after that issue, I sent an email to Lego Corp detailing what happened and how much it upset my wife and me. We weren't looking for free Lego sets or anything monetary, just an apology. Nothing, not a peep from the company. So to me, that's the company as a whole in agreement with the single employee. That is why I buy Lepin. Heck, we don't even put most of the sets together, there is a noticeable difference in quality. But, as I previously stated, it's not about the product. It's about supporting the enemy of my enemy.
Shore Knightseer what? The company doesn’t care, you think the entire company unanimously agrees that they hate your wife ? What are you talking about they just don’t care it’s one person out of billions of people who die every second
To be honest. Past 2 months I've dropped about $800 in official lego products. But seeing a few reviews about ko legos. I'm wanting to get some ko sets and see what kind of quality they are. I can see your point money wise. Do I buy Bandaid or a adhesive strip, both do the same thing, just what can you afford and does it accomplish the task needed. I just placed a order for a full set of all the Skooby-Doo, Ko Voltron, and Future (Nexo) Knights Knightington castle. Time to wait and see. But this Falcon is next on my list. Thanks for showing this off, I just wish it had more interior room. All that wasted space inside, with so many ideas of things they could have explored.
800 dollars, still cracks me up thinking about it. You know you could actually buy 1000 times more plastic in volume than is used to create the UCS Millenium set for that much? I know, I know, machinery, trademarks, overhead, employee's, I get it. Still doesn't change the fact that Lego has probably over a 400% margin on this product, and for that reason I'll never buy it.
@@poedameron8160 its that price because it's the price that was set back in the late 90s, It's like Nintendo in the late 80s, where 1 employee was generating a million dollars on average when divided by the company total staff, It's high margins, it's people willing to pay it, it's lego wanting huge profits and huge savings in their bank If you can make a high end taco and sell it for 30 dollars instead of 3 why not, just tell everyone you got overhead, and designers, and licensing deals,
The quality is definitely not as high as real Lego bricks, but it's pretty close. I'd say it's about 80 - 90% there. For my use it's good enough, it sits on a shelf and collects just as much dust as a real Lego set.
Man i got lots of Megablocks Halo sets and they were big and about 4x cheaper than Lego boxes the same size !!! Lepin is on the same level as Megablocks by quality.... And Megablock HALO figures actually had MANY JOINTS on soldiers hands and legs ( crazy detailed ) ... So if youre for just "model collecting dust " go for Lepin, if kids wanna play Lego is more durable for Mill.Falc. destruction /assemble over and over again... 😉
I just bought the lego city hall and i cant aford the orginal beause its expensive the lepin i bought is 2000 pesos and the original is 50000 pesos. The city hall i bought is good it have no missing piece and lego bricks not breaking and it also look thesame to the original
Can't wait, getting mine next week!! (Also ordered the 12k pieces Cavegod Sand Crawler but I have to wait so long before it's shipped that I ordered the falcon to keep me busy in the meantime :P). Loved watching the speed build with the SW asteroid field music in the background :)
Sometimes I buy “Stop and Shop” brand coffee creamer...I like the “ princess castle”. Zero issue. They are stepping it up i guess. Didn’t get any defect either. Chose seller with best reviews. Only problem if that... was pieces scattered. Like a one piece for left of steps ( left slant foursie) was in a different bag, than the right side one. I’ve spent appx $8k on LEGO. I’m not looking to resell the castle. It’s for me. As with most sets. Just like building. Like I like my no name creamer.
Imagine buying a giant set like this, then finding there was an important piece missing. I am gonna have to go with the Lego one as it is only £300 for me
I showed near the beginning of the video where I ordered it from. It's a Koren website, but from a seller that no longer sells online. So unfortunately it's not an option anymore.
You're lucky that you got a correctly printed canopy. I didn't. And I got a replacement for it that was in the worst possible state, broken & scratched all over the place. Meanwhile a genuine Lego one on Bricklink costs as much as the Lepin set. So that's one thing to keep in mind, Lepin won't care about missing or broken parts (which are many in this one, but all of the other ones are common). I also had the wrong color for that panel, but it's ok. And those stickers are completely wrong.
Well would you look at that! I totally never expected there to be Lepin haters in the comments. *sarcasm* If I want to buy something then I will, you guys have no right to tell someone that they can't buy something with their own money that they earned. If they wanna buy Lego then they buy Lego, if they want Lepin then the buy Lepin, and if they want to free a small child from a desert planet then well your republic credits are no good here. There are people just tryna ge the sets they wanted as a kid and just getting hate for it, it's obvious that someone who isn't a die hard Lego collector is gonna opt for the cheaper option.
Pirated Chinese kits are a great solution for most countries. For example, in our country, original Lego sets cost 2-3 times more than in the USA. Lego in many places is absolutely inadequate prices.
good job mate, I did also buy many fake lego star wars sets because they are no longer on the market or because they are too expensive (super star destrooyer for exemple), yeah, lego is better but the price is just not justified for some sets because it's just a piece of plastic. Also, if I buy the old sets from someone else, I don't help lego or anything like that
Welcome to wild capitalism, folks! It's a fact that LEGO made something truly amazing and high value.... But that doesn't means that they should charge insane prices. $80 set is ok? It's $120 in my country where they actualy produce it... They make HUGE profit already. Be happy for companies like LEPIN that can bring such an educational toy for those who aren't able to spend LEGO's overprices. Not to mention the deeply greedy second-market of sets and pieces... Fun Fact: The less LEGO sells, the more friendly offers they have to do. P.s.: Cheers, please throw away your cars as well because they're aren't original Ford T model successors. You have a Toyota? Sure, asian copy, no buy? Be reasonable over your demagogues...
Alexander Wesley MATTHEWS You expect because of that people will pay for plastic 1k euro... dude most people in the world barely make 1000 euro in a mouth and even less
I just bought the LEGO one for about $600 USD. It's too much for me but I always assume LEPIN will be crap with missing pieces - although it's probably not true. Still deciding whether to build or resell it.
In this case I can understand buying the knockoff, though personally I just can't the pieces feel cheap and the quality isn't as great but if you just wanted to have something to display without the figures id say go ahead
JohnZorZ84 You could take more care to attribute the design work to Lego. Now it seems like you are endorsing the "design" of lepin, while in fact they just stole it.
Remember that time Lego stole the design for lego from a company called Kidibricks? And then remember when Lego patented every brick design possible 10 years after stealing kidibricks design? Where is kidibricks today? where is any lego competition? There is none because they stole their way to where they are then made sure no one could do the same.
People giving him hate for buying lepin for supporting chinese fakes,I personally would NEVER spend 800$ on a Lego set and i would change minor less quality for a way more reasonable price.
I was this close to buying a ucs millennium falcon, until I realized how horribly Disney has treated its fanbase. I will choose Lepin because I want my model, but I am not giving 1 more cent of my money to lucasfilm.
@@steff-the-ghoul Dude there is so much shit you can buy with $800 If you care that much about a toy brand that you're not willing to cut the price more than half. I think you need to get your priorities straight. You can pay a months rent for a 1 bedroom apartment with $800. Any person with a brain will go for the cheaper option. Yes it is piracy but if it benefits you than by all means be a pirate.
It’s not a matter of price, the real problem is: I wan’t to make LEGO bankrupt? If yes continue buy lepin and I hope the customs seizure the package. If not, u understand how to respect the work of others peoples.
About the count - someone who did a review and had two thinks the difference is about the way it is build where special pieces have been replaced by smaller ones ... can't guarantee it is correct though ...
People saying this is piracy, I think Lego selling a load of plastic bricks for £650+ is piracy enough!

This thing is like a dream for people who grew up with lego. Unfortunately I cannot affor the real thing and Im really finding it hard to buy this one either. But anyhow. Its only thanks to Lepin I could some day enjoy this great thing. And when it comes to defending a brand, well bad luck. The products are way too overpriced.
I bought the lepin falcon a while back but as of today bought the lego version on the lego site. I will not bother putting together the lepin falcon till a much later date, I rather get lego as the quality is much better and the build experience is way way way better since you get them in numbered bags by the step which saves you a lot of time and space.
another issue I have with lepin lately is that the parts are dirty have weird grime stains on them which is a bad sign in my opinion. I'ts not on every part but enough to make me concerned.
Congrats on grabbing the Lego version, not always so easy to find available from what I hear. Nice that you have both versions, would be nice to get a side by side of the experience with both versions. Yes Lepin pieces can randomly have odd stains and inperfections on them. Not all the pieces not even most of them, but in a set of several thousand peices you may get a handful (like 5-10 maybe more) that are partially melted, or have some odd stain. Lepin does number the bags for this set, but Legos way of organizing their bags is better I agree. Either way, have fun with the build
Actually it's easy to get the lego falcon now, it's been available for a good while now on the lego store. I no longer wish to build the lepin set, I just dont have the time and patience it would require to go through all the bags, they are numbered but not by step it's pointless.
Darth Bane When I made this video it was hard to find the Lego version. The bags are numbered by step. There are 17 bags in the official Lego version. This just has like 10 different bags for each step, so open all the number 1 bags and that will get you through Lego version bag 1 then open all number 2 bags and so on.
The effort to build the set make video edit it and release it is time consuming. So good job continue! And what ever the people are writing. Important is to have fun by the brick building.
wkruit1 Understand you point. It is up to the end user if someone feels bad or not. Global market found the way how to sell it. And if there would not be a demand this companies would stop. I know for example one of the supplier of the injection molding machines for Lepin is HAITIAN. This company is also a supplier to automotive suppliers which supply they parts like bumpers to big brands as BMW, GM etc. Do they feal guilty? This is all about corparate business and the money. So end of the day at least the fun of the brick building should remain does not matter to who you pay.
it's not fun building lepin sets, the pieces do not go on well, and some are just completely stupid like the ucs star destroyer...all the magnet clips brokes becuase the magnets they used were way too damn strong so I tossed it.
Darth Bane I agree it is bit different feeling when you assemble bricks from Lepin sometimes they miss clutch power. Also if you build Lepin technic sets it is known the quality if the puns is bit worse as Lego. Or the Lepin servo motors are nightmare. But I had still fun with it. Because in my opinion it is still fun because this means modify and improve the models with some old spare parts.
Bricks and Toys mix Yes, they do parts for other companies. However, it USED to be legal, now, lepin lost the lawsuit to Lego, becoming illegal to sell copied sets. Its not about building fun or what, it just that it is NOT ETHICAL to do what you are doing(Buying lepin sets and support them to reproduce more)
Thanks for the video. But when you comment about pricing... I don't know the real costs Lego have with designers, to project all these intricate new Lego parts, and to think about assembling those in a Playful way (also important) - no to tell quality control, marketing, and many many more. But this HAS a COST, people should know it at least. Another thing is just copy all this intellectual property and sell plastic blocks.
Ya I know there is a large cost associated with the actual designs of the indiviual bricks and the sets as a whole, and licensing and all the other overhead that lego has. But if Lepin is able to produce the exact same thing of very similar quality (not matching lego yet) and still turn a profit, I wonder if that more than $500 difference in price is all needed to make up Lego's overhead and quality difference.
@@user-kx7do4fh2j bricklink is full of scalpers that jack up the prices so they can make a profit and even if you part it out it's still going to be like twice the amount of a lepin set
@@AutomateYourMind do not try to justify Lepin because it is cheaper. They are stealing Legos intellectual property with almost the exact boxart. I mean "starplan" wtf. On their website they write Lepin fan ideas and show pictures of actual Lego sets. Theses guys are idiotic animals!
@@user-kx7do4fh2j But what exactly is the issue? Lego doesn't sell retired sets and thus they do not get revenue from them anymore anyway, so what is the issue with lepin copying designs they no longer sell? I say this as someone who has never bought anything other than lego, but you'd be hard pressed to explain how this in anyway hurts lego.
Captain Puggles as far as I know you don't need the retail box to have numbered bags. But of course I can't say that for a fact. Perhaps ask on the lepin sub reddit if people got numbered bags from their versions.
I think that his purchase was justified, the set was out of stock on the lego website and i can understand that paying 1000 usd for a lego set is way too much.
