Third Law live is my passion. Einar's vocals are so energetic, the guitars give off some amazing energy to the performance, and the drumming is just awesome!
The same ! "Coal" and "Bilateral" are my favourite Leprous LPs... Incredibly rich and exciting musical & emotional trips... :) But the last one is amazing too... ... [Uh... "Mariusz"... I feel like I'm talking to Mariusz... Duda ! (from GREAT polish band RIVERSIDE... ;-))) ]
Julian Joyce I can only agree with you, twice. When Bilateral reaches the end, Coal starts. When Coal... :) And same as Mariusz Duda, I am from Poland. Fortunately, we have a couple of talented musicians over here but imho Leprous > Riverside.
(I'm from France ^^)... It's hard to compare such different styles. 2 great bands but a different musical approach (with both a very high level of artistic and technical achievement). But they've got things in common : intensity - deep/heavy emotions in kaleidoscopic colors - hypnotic impact - huge work on arrangements, vocals & production... Anyhow, good music and impressive performers ! :)
the same here, i can't get enough of their music. bilateral was also my favourite for some time but now i'm kinda leaning more towards coal. one thing that baffles me though is how the fuck did they come up with such an inappropriate name for themselves. not that it's important for me personally but i think it is an unnecessary obstacle standing in their way of reaching a larger audience.
Completely agree ! Coïncidence, one day ago I wrote this in another comment : "It's fascinating how this 'sick' band named "Leprous" ^^ makes my ears & soul healthier... :)"... Haha ! Apart from their stunning technical level, there's something so powerful in terms of emotion. I remember the first time I listened to pieces like "Foe", "The cloak" or "Echo" (in Coal album), it nearly made me cry... ... (I say "nearly", hey, wow, shit ! I'm a manly & strong macho man, I never learned to cry ! (^^ !...! ^^)... )
Funny you say that, because the way it's done in the studio recording, some of my favorite vocals in any of their songs. Like he's been left out in the sun for too long. The whole album has that vibe, it's uncomfortable, and for whatever reason I like when Leprous sounds like they're making a backing track to my sleep paralysis demons.
I agree that much of it has to do with the over-compressed and reverb-less mixing of the album. But in the case of this particular song (not the rest of the album), I think Einar's vocals in the verses are very weak in the studio. And yes, Leprous do slay live ;).
...And now I'm gonna argue with a six year old RU-vid comment. Yeah, this sounds "better and more powerful" but I feel like The Congregation was _supposed_ to sound like that. Like someone left a record out in the sun for a month and it kinda just wants to die, now, Einar included. It sounds like he's straining and in this case I think that's kinda perfect.
Guys, you've got to buy that DVD, really... To shamelessly drop a hint, on Forced Entry (arguably one of their best songs, and one of the trickiest rythmically), during the guitar solo, previous drummer Tobias Andersen joins Baard Kolstad to do the rest of the song - his part originally - on a second drum kit. It's surreal, both the precision and the friendship! They're touring in Europe in the coming weeks starting early February (with Devin Townsend), flight ticket and hotel booked already... :D
@@greggjaeger6616I was lucky enough to see both of them in their separate tours within the past few months, and honestly? I cannot pick a favourite. They were both SENSATIONAL
And it's not even his best performance. Actually, is one of his worst performances I heard of him and that doesn't mean it's a bad perfomance, it's really good. Einar is one of the best singers right now.

Every note played has a definitive space to fill and there are some quite tricky little undertones if you can catch them. The VOICE........I remember listening to one of the VERY FIRST Prog Metal bands, FATES WARNING back in the mid 80s and hearing John Arch sing with a very similar (as similar as can be I suppose) high range, note heavy delivery and tbinking....this man uses his voice like another fluid instrument in the ensemble. Songs like Fata Morgana. EXODUS, Guardian and Valley of the Dolls.

i'm so glad to have discovered this band a while ago because they just sound ALIEN - it's a big soup but the harmony and the voice(s) are just completly original and nuts - unique !
If you like this you should check out Steven Wilson, Coheed and Cambria's Year of the Black Rainbow -album and Steve Hogarth -era Marillion. This is like a love child of all that stuff mixed with fresh young energy and performed really well.
they just need to put that drummer up front..period..this band to my ears just has this odd dissonance about it..but im sucked in buy the drumming.as a long time guitarist in know from experience that your band is only as good as your drummer. he is the man.time keeper and heart of the whole thing.would love to do some session work with that guy. these guys as a whole just have this crazy dissonant melon colly thing going on that is just so dam unique.kind of like one of those crazy abstract paintings where they take a bunch of brilliant colors and just randomly splash them on the canvas..when you first look you kind of go what!!! but then when you look again it becomes this crazy beautiful thing that you cant stop looking at..these guys are like that musicaly. pretty fucking awesome!!!
No Blu-Ray? Come on...! This video has 1080p resolution, but if you spend money on it you only get 480p resolution... That'll look like shit on a 65" tv. It's a shame that this great material don't get the quality it deserves.
