What always makes me laugh with these sketches is that neither performer impersonates a female voice or even tries to act any more feminine than they would out of drag, and yet they still provide a convincing portrayal of those doughty, post-war, 'battle-axes' that I remember from my childhood.
Such a simple comedy format, two "ladies" sitting having a chat, but it is the script and both Les and Roy's timing that makes this simple comedy format fantastic.
I have to watch this every single day, and every time I find myself chortling over the humour of it all. The pair is so well-matched. I cannot envisage another duo to take its place in our affections. Risque it may be, but it is blameless and totally charismatic. I do miss Les so much. He was as versatile as any actor. Mr Barraclough was also an inspiration in this pairing. God Bless them both !
At the umpteenth watching of this great clip, I find myself laughing out loud each time, despite my knowing the script by heart now. The facial expressions, the elbow knockings, both contribute to make this a first rate comedy classic
I'm in stitches when i see Les's face on the right as a thumbnail, i click play and i'm howling, what a great sketch these two were, never gets old, Les with Dame Shirley Bassey too, as a child i watched Les Dawson make my late father's head explode with laughter everytime he was on, forever grateful. R.I.P Sir.
I love these two, so funny, Les of course is brilliant, them faces priceless and also Roy Barraclough who was in Coronation Street, is the great companion, it just works really well. Used to watch Les Dawson with my parents when I was a kid, he is brilliant. R.I.P Les Dawson x
How can we not share/Ever forget this pair in action (a unbelievable class act act with so much research going into how middle aged lady’s went about there lives/gossip!so funny and they both made it look easy and natural.👍🇬🇧
Comic gold! And do my ears deceive me, not one foul word. Would love to have been a fly on the studio wall when these were being filmed. They must have had so much fun. R.I.P Les and Roy.
There will never be anyone like les and all the others of his time. It’s only now I’m nearing my 60s that I truly appreciate how brilliantly funny and intelligent they actually were.❤️
Love it now as I did back in 1979 aged 6! please bring it back full-scale on dvd. Who remembers when women really were like that? I certainly do and depicted real life.
The BBC missed a trick not repeating Cissy and Ada in last 18months they would have cheered up this country so much patulary the Waitress one Les and Roy are so missed thanks for the laughter
I remember Roy playing a leading role in Coronation St. It never occurred to me that he was in fact part of the double act I'd watched as a child earlier! Talent.
How many honeymoons did Ada & Burt have? In this they went to Blackpool, in the magic of travel they went to Elsie Garside's in New Brighton. The joke about the tablets for impotent goats gets recycled a few times, still brilliant though. Thanks for uploading them all Gorlestonguy.
Absolute Classic Comedy..We will never see the likes of this again..How dare 51 thumb down merchants watch this..Stick to your so called comics of today, not fit to wipe the boots of these 2 genius's.
There must have been some input from Les as the St Juan/ SanJose joke was used in the mid-sixties by Lester and Smart who were mutual friends of Les and me.
