Since nobody else has mentioned it. Les and his wife Mary Ford were close friends with Steve's parents, who were best man and matron of honor at Les & Mary's wedding. Les is Steve's Godfather.
Love this. Love Les and Steve forever. So, Les Paul is Steve Miller's Godfather? I see that as both a blessing and a curse for Steve. Thanks, you just blew my mind.
Well I've been 2atching and Les is a little catty with everyone. But i got a little offended at the way Steve was treating him. I thought it must of been some sort of joke. I love Les Paul and Steve Miller band equally. I just always go for the underdog.
Les is such a great artist, it's obvious that his arthritis has crippled his ability to play even the most basic chords. This man in his prime was untouchable. What dedication and love he has, this is what makes him so great. RIP Les...
Near the end of college, my parents said, 'Steve, what are you going to do?' I said, 'I want to go to Chicago and play the blues.' My father looked at me like I was insane. But my mom said, 'You should do it now.' So I went to Chicago. And that was a special time. I played with Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. I got to work with adults and realized music was what I wanted to do, what I loved.
Steve Miller is the real deal, right at the birth of rock n roll. T bone Walker showed him how to play along with Les at his house growing up. Most white artists learnt from records, Steve learnt from them in person.
What an exceptional jam!! I was very surprised that Mr. Les Paul invited Steve Miller to a jam session of this stature. I was hoping they'd play at least one of Steve's "little great songs", but no... they let me down on that. Despite that, I was surprised to discover this side of Steve I was not fully aware of. 👋👋👋
I like the way Steve Cropper threats this gig, so pro, so 'into it' , not stealing the show and just let's things flow their natural ways... A true professional and a gentleman!
You can tell Steve played in Chicago with Muddy and the Blues Men....I'm from Chicago Blues ...Silky Slim, bass/vocalist and played on the same scene he played on,..only a few years later than he !!!
Wow, what a great set! I knew Steve was great, but Norton Buffalo had eluded my radar! What a player! I will be digging out my albums that he has recorded on!
Here's an interesting fact about Les Paul as recorded in Wikipedia: "In January 1948, Paul shattered his right arm and elbow among multiple injuries in a near-fatal automobile accident on an icy Route 66 west of Davenport, Oklahoma. Mary Ford was driving the Buick convertible, which plunged off the side of a railroad overpass and dropped twenty feet into a ravine. They were returning from Wisconsin to Los Angeles after visiting family.[25] Doctors at Oklahoma City's Wesley Hospital told Paul that they could not rebuild his elbow. Their other option was amputation. Paul was flown to Los Angeles, where his arm was set at an angle-just under 90 degrees-that allowed him to cradle and pick the guitar. It took him nearly a year and a half to recover."
DR.NNOO that piano shredder would be John Colianni, excellent pianist that was part of Les band in later years. He previously played for Mel Torme among others and Les was said to enjoy Johns rapid and fluid playing which put him in mind of Tatum.😎
I should think there will never be another like him, or even close enough for comparison. He truly was one of a kind, and the greatest harp player there ever was or ever will be. R I P Norton, you are sincerely missed...
Maybe Jimmy will play Freebird for you.your comment reminds me of a time I was in à cat house and an obviously section able twat was talking about dogs!!!
Blues are so lame. All the same fucking song. Been there done that. It's like a song stuck in their heads. I wish it never was wrote, because it is a stifle to creativity in my opinion. Many will disagree but I am right. Ha.
Sorry but setting aside the folksiness and laid back attitude with regard to any matrimonial excuses you are again left with the question as to why Les Paul is there? certainly not for any musical contribution. The band were great though in every respect.
Well, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Les is there because it's HIS PLACE, and Steve & Co., just as so many others have been, are his guests!!
It's obvious you don't play guitar, but if you want to know. Les is in his 90's and has advanced Arthritis, can barely bend his fingers. For him to go up there and play just shows his love and dedication to his music....
