Having the stereo split helps when you mix because it's the same performance times two. It sounds beautiful. This guitar has so many sound oppportunities, the stereo is wonderful.
@halcooper3070
@halcooper3070 Год назад
Use a splitter? Record to two tracks?
@davidsharp3110
@davidsharp3110 Год назад
@@halcooper3070 It's not the same. A splitter just splits the mono output of one or more pickups. Stereo is getting the signal from each individual pickup. If you listened to the Trogly audio on this demo, it's discrete stereo. A splitter will never do that ever.
@halcooper3070
@halcooper3070 Год назад
It doesn't need to. Thus why stereo guitars never caught on. If you want to blend two pickups, same performance, you have the middle position, and two volumes, and a splitter, like every performer who uses two amps does.The amps take care of the rest. Stereo guitar gains you nothing, recording or live.
@halcooper3070
@halcooper3070 Год назад
@davidsharp3110 unless we're suggesting everyone from.SRV on down just weren't smart enough to have their tech add an input and a blend, instead of using a splitter as they did?

I used to use a dual set up for gigs back in the 90's, with my old Orange OR120 & an even older AC 30. The sound was awesome. I had twin Marshall stacks either side of the stage, one for each amp & it added a whole other layer of sound onto the band. Still got the OR (never part with it, favourite amp ever) but the poor Vox died an unfortunate death when our bass player pissed on it during post gig shenanigans one night. Killed my amp & the band lol. Ah, good times, good times.
@fluxerflixer1
@fluxerflixer1 Год назад
If you want to play through 2 amps “the Framptone” is a noiseless A/B switch. Used to Run a duel rectifier and a VOX AC30 when gigging. Sound was incredible. That’s a cool rare Norlin. I’m surprise how well it was preserved!! The ALL maple gives it a brighter sound for sure.

@dylanzrim3635

The stereo wiring was purely to record two tracks in the time it took to record one. It was a money saving exercise on the recording artist’s part and Gibson decided to provide the feature at the point where it was popular
@davidsharp3110
@davidsharp3110 Год назад
I disagree, this opens up so many options in recording and live. Having the stereo split helps when you mix because it's the same performance times two. It sounds beautiful. If someone is in a hurry to record two channels to save time, then they are wasting the creative process. This guitar has so many sound oppportunities, the stereo is wonderful.

Austin, I'm an old audiophile from the 70s, so I think I'm qualified here. That uppermost pot marked "VOL" is what I would call a "BALANCE" control, similar to what you'd find on a consumer stereo system of the time. It's basically the same thing as a pan pot, but you only have the two pickups in the mix.

He was a short guy too who looked a lot like Paul Simon, and I remember that the guitar looked huge on him. We played Tears in Heaven on stage together for the school talent show. I would love to see a video of that.

Salutations Austin! Really interesting and beautiful Les Paul Custom! There are a variety of ways that guitar can be used to optimise it’s stereo potential, in a recording studio setting each pickup can be routed through it’s own channel and then those tracks can then be manipulated in post production, however, running through two completely different amplifiers is essentially how it was originally designed to be used, and gives you the most flexibility in live performances, which is how I would use this guitar, and I would have a variety of effects units for each channel that would be set up to optimise the sound of the each pickup. Gerry Garcia frequently used a stereo equipped guitar to contribute to the “Wall of Sound” and to get a fuller sound out of his guitar. There are so many different possibilities with a guitar such as this, and as you continue experimenting with it, you will gain additional ideas 💡. Thank you for posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸

It probably is because I am of the generation that saw the Parker Fly hit the market (and tumble off again), but I think of stereo guitars in terms of those that have the acoustic Piezo pickup. That to my ears is the ultimate stereo guitar sound, a bridge between acoustic simulation and magnetic electric pickup signals. I might be kind of closed minded, but I can't imagine myself getting into a model like this Les Paul.
@jeffreygoldstein4707
@jeffreygoldstein4707 Год назад
Just a thought. Maybe check out the stereo feature on the 2013 SG Supra. You run a splitter off the output jack to two separate amps. The electric pick ups go to one amp and the power bridge goes to the other amp so the stereo affect is quasi-electric/acoustic. I have one you can borrow to make a video.

@trog, you have to understand that when Gibson (and other manufacturers) bought pots, especially pots other than your standard 500k ohm (i.e., special pots like the dual pot in this case), they're likely going to have older dates because they simply are not being used in significant quantity during guitar production. Thus, it's not unreasonable that the pot code on the dual pot has a 1969 date code for a 1972 production.

How badass is that?! And I discovered my laptop is capable of stereo, I had no idea. Bonus!

It would have been great to have heard some hard square wave form tremolo mixed in with that reverb. Not sure what pickup to assign to what effect, though. But therein lies the fun.

That's a Sears Les Paul, that control plate is supposed to have 6 fancy effects operated on a 9volt battery. Rock On!

The stereo aspect will sound even more distinct by moving the amps well apart from each other. Thanks for a most interesting video!

Very similar effect to the tones I used to get running a wet / dry rig like the OG 80s hair metal dudes I used to work with at Lang Music in Columbus, Ohio showed me...

Interested in a 2014 mine tune. I also have the set of Grover’s that would be a replacement for that type Standard AAA TOP
