I'm gonna guess you re"installed" the bigsby wrong. If you don't know how to tighten them properly, it leads to tuning stability problems. One of the common causes of Bigbsy, problems is becuase users over tighten them.
@hkguitar1984
@hkguitar1984 Год назад
@@popeye089 I concur. A quick visit to the Bigsby Website, under the "Support" heading list several important steps required to prevent tuning stability issues. One of the main steps is that when installing new strings each string needs to be crimped at a 45-degree angle next to the ball end. Failure to follow this one step is enough to cause tuning issues. All that needed to be done is check the manufactures website. I really doubt the builder or owner of a new $55,000 guitar would tolerate such issues. Like I said, the Bigsby website has got to be the last word on all things Bigsby. Just my $.02 Cents.

Like Randy Rhoads said when a student was afraid to handle his guitar because he might scratch it, “you can either be a guitar player and put your own wear on it from practicing hard, or you can hang it on the wall”. We have ourselves a wall hanger that won’t stay in tune for only 55,000. 🤭

Metal inlays would probably make sanding the radius into the fretboard a huge pain in the ass. And did you notice the lack of tooling marks on the fretboard? I am not convinced they are even familiar with the concept.
@hkguitar1984
@hkguitar1984 Год назад
+1 about the metal inlays and sanding issues. As for the lack of tool marks on the fingerboard, most of those marks on a Gibson are specifically from filing the fret nibs into the binding. This guitar's neck is unbound, so there would likely be no finishing filing other than dressing the fret ends.
@jondough76
@jondough76 Год назад
@@hkguitar1984 I didn't think about the binding/nibs. Maybe Gibson should just do away with fret nibs since they can't seem to finish them properly without chewing up the board. I have never been a fan of the nibs anyway.

@hkguitar1984 Год назад
@@jondough76 I agree with you. I think its just a Gibson tradition. IMHO, they should only offer the fret nibs on Historics and Re-Issues. That is just my $.02 Cents. That said, I've a 1986 Les Paul Custom with almost 40 years of regular playing wear. The fingerboard binding still looks great, however, due to the binding the edge of the fingerboard lacks the rolled edge/worn-in feel of my older Fender guitars. I gig regularly, am in five different bands. I play instruments from all ages and none of them look like or ever will look like most of these nonsense relic guitars. I'm playing a 1939 lap steel that looks mint. I'm playing a 1969 Gibson SG it looks like it has moderate normal play wear. I'm playing a Les Paul copy from the 80s that looks great and I've got newer guitars also. I take care of them. I wiped them off and I don't bang them around or knock them over. For fuck sake.

Yeah, but taking care of your guitar and wiping it down every night isn't rock'n'roll is it? Have you seen Keefs, Rory's and Stevie's

I've a 1986 Les Paul Custom that is worn almost as much as this Flying V! I also wipe my guitars down and keep them in the cases, stuff just happens when you're flailing around!

Austin I mean this in the kindest way, run a vacuum over your setup table, then spray some windex on a paper towel and give it a good rub down. That close up of the screws made me squirm lol.

Great breakdown & demo, Austin...I'm not a big fan of flying Vs so forgive me...Definitely an ultra, heavy-aged axe. IMO, the edges are worn too much. This would be a guitar that the owner gave ZERO care: never cleaned it, stepped on it, did Jimi Hendrix/SRV 'floor routines' when they played 'Third Stone from the Sun'...I agree this is only worth about 10 grand due to not staying in tune.

Just from setting intonation, my strings have little dents from the old saddle position, no way those saddles should be paired with a tremolo, it will never stay in tune.

Looks like the "wear" has had burnt umber rubbed into the grain then stripped off with a solvent. An old furniture aging trick but can be very effective if done right.

09:37 - Hey Austin, you mentioned that the bridge on this guitar is an ABR-1 with a wire retainer, but there doesn’t appear to be a wire, or the holes drilled into the bridge where the wire would be installed. Can you please explain where the wire is on this bridge, or were your comments in the video incorrect?

BRO! You need to learn what a Luthiers Knot is at the tuning peg and once stretched out your strings won't detune unless there's is a nut or saddle hang-up.

I play sitting down a lot do to a motorcycle accident so a V is about the toughest for me. I can play them like a goober. As for as relived guitars it is done very well, they are just not my thing. I don’t mind old used guitars, I just don’t like the idea of faking one.

Salutations Austin! Interesting collectors piece, I certainly wouldn’t pay $55,000 dollars for such an instrument, I would just pick up an affordable one and just customise it myself, for a lot less, even if I could afford such an expensive instrument, which I cannot. Ideally, when I purchase a new guitar, I prefer it to look new, I don’t get the appeal of an artificially aged guitar directly from the manufacturer, but if it is an actual vintage instrument that has some actual wear and tear then that is a completely different story, but a brand new instrument it makes little sense to pay a premium for it, in my opinion. Whoever purchased this instrument was awesome to allow you to examine it and share it with us all! I hope they are happy with it. Thank you for posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸🎄

I personally find the concept interesting. It looks like what someone would make in the post apocalypse. Like imagine the world ended just before the invention of the floating tremolo bridge system or the Floyd rose bridge, and a wasteland bard wanted a trem on a V guitar. This is what I’d imagine. Although I’d rather make something like that myself than pay 55K for it

Badass-looking axe for sure. And for $55K, not many buyers are going have it as a player, so tuning issues are probably unimportant (but also easily remedied by a competent tech or luthier).

Hi trogly… Great guitar… I’ve noticed your having trouble with tuning on this one , it’s the nut is sticking Pretty sure . Radio shack has what’s called synthetic lube One drop on the slot of each string at the nut will allow the strings to slide properly over the nut and stop friction .. allowing the guitar to stay in tune by removing the friction of the string over the nut …it will last the life of the string 2/3 months…try it you’ll like it’s worked for me .. gigging for many years I use on all my guitars 🎸 Peace bro great show lone time fan ….
