Peter Jung you song inspired me to take up Violin at 50. I had to be able to play Crested Hens before I died lol. Still playing, and yes, I can play it beautifully along with many others. Thanks so much for your beautiful creation 😊
I discovered your Poules Huppees on the PC a year ago, and though I've heard it a thousand times , I never tire of it. I must be addicted! I play it on chromatic diatonic accordion (an Irish box), and it's always well received. I'm 78 now, and have been playing for over 50 years, but have never before been affected in quite this way by such a tune and its presentation. You are magic. David Binks, England
I accidentally found your videos last night when I was searching some violin music. When I found your page and listened to the first song, I can't stop viewing your videos one by one! So elegant the music you played, so lovely you looked and I can see you enjoy playing violin so much from your face. Look forward to your sharing!
+Nick Lewis Thanks Nick! =) I have so many ideas planned - I can't wait to put some more videos together! :D I have quite a few in the pipeline, it's just a matter of finding enough time to finish the different projects. ^_^ I'm glad that you have liked the videos so far! =)
Thank you @Peter Jung I couldn't get that tune Far Away out of my mind, but I didn't know the name, so I just sang it for one of my contradance fiddler friends Bill Quern and from that signature second half he said right away Far Away.... Well he was right and with the name I found Katy's beautiful version here so I simply have to learn both of these together, beautifully paired!
Very well done Katy thank you. Wunderbar gespielt...and many thanks to Mr Chabenat and Mr Jung for their wonderful contribution to the music world. I play these tunes on my Guarneri copy and it sings like crazy. Now if I could just get my neighbors to understand that. :)
A very beautiful video production. Wonderfully beautiful songs chosen for it. I love the history and background of these songs in your life, as well. From your previous tutorials of these songs, I learned these songs, as well, and to see them both performance played by you in this current video, is the icing on the cake that really ties it all together. The songs are very lovely, as are you, a very nice combination. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for your labor of love in doing it.
I am here since 1k sub. I am so glad that your channel gained so much popularity. I have playlist of all your music, i like so much your style, your energy, arrangement, everything is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
I just wanted to say: thank you so much for sharing your gift. I suffered the loss of a child and your playing helped me through the absolute worst time of my life. I began practicing the violin 2 years ago and only hope to amount to your skill. You are my favorite violinist, hands down. Continue playing.:) You're the best :)
I'm so sorry for your loss... 😞 but I'm glad my music was able to help a little. Playing music puts me in such a calming state of mind; it's like I get to forget about all the things going on right now and relax for a few minutes. I hope you find more happiness with playing the violin! =)
My friend and I switched our music playlists for a day And of course, she listens to this type of music and I, on the other hand, I listen to K-pop (BTS, ASTRO, Blackpink, IKON etc) this came up on her playlist and it stuck out to me. So... Good job!
These are two lovely tunes that you have arranged with a nice backing track. You do a great job of editing everything together, synchronizing the music and the multiple shots - you make it look easy when I'm guessing there are numerous hours spent putting it all together. But it's definitely worth it :) Always love the expressiveness in your eyes when you smile; it makes the music that much more enjoyable. I also personally believe everyone ought to own two chickens - you learn a lot from them. Mine raise a ruckus on the porch if I'm late with their morning scratch!
+Bill Karle Thanks Bill! I'm glad that you like these two tunes! ^_^ Yeah, it takes me quite a lot of time to put a "fancier" video + backing track like this together... this one took me about 20 hours to put together, which is probably more time than most would realize... I've had a lot of fun putting these together - it's a neat little hobby, and I've been learning so much! And about the chickens, I know how that goes! Chickens can be quite demanding lol! I still love chickens, and I feel kind of bad for them - always laying those big eggs must be so uncomfortable... =/
@Katy Adelaon Just gorgeous! Because of you I now have to learn two new tunes and buy two chickens! 😉😂 Seriously beautiful work and I really admire all the time you put in to make something so beautiful for us! Do you mind sharing what programs you use to blend the videos and get the backing track to sync? PC or Mac?
Hi Katy, actually Gilles Chabenat wrote "Les Poules Huppées" as a bourrée, hence in fast 3/8. I am surprised at how you make it sound so natural playing it as a slow 3/4 waltz. Swell job, as usual!
Oh where do I start? My gosh how your soul flows out while you play! The chickens stir memories of ones my children picked out for pets many years ago! Life is such a wonderful gift! Thanks so very much for sharing yours ! 👍👏👏👏🌹
love this. and your other posts. you have a beautiful soul, and it comes through in your playing, for those who have ears to hear. Keep on doing what you are doing, you excel at it. and never mind trying to do classical stuff, or cover versions, that is not you. Just go with your strength
+Rob0888 Thank you so much! =) And thanks for reassuring my spelling lol -- I'm glad I spelled it right. I was relying so much on google! Misspelling something and writing something really bad by accident is a fear of mine.... :S
Nice, I'd have guessed a bit of Irish - Those who play Assassins Creed Rogue - 1750's , did you notice tune is similar when docked at the French/British village pubs.
wow Katy, you sure have gotten fancy with your angles and editting in the video! The playing sounds great as in all your videos. Thanks for sharing the music. Oh and P.S. thanks for teaching me to play Drowsy Maggie and Drunken Sailor lol
+Michael Espinoza Thanks Michael! =) I've noticed that the more edited videos tend to do better in RU-vid land than the one-shot-wonders lol. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make fancier videos like this all the time, but they are fun to occasionally put together. =) I'm glad that you learned Drunken Sailor and Drowsy Maggie! Those are fun tunes! ^_^
I love what you do ! You're an amazing violinist ! This kind of music is one of the reason why I started to learn violin a few monthes ago at the age of 27 ;-)
I am teaching myself how to play this and have a funny story. So I learned how to play the first part and during my lesson, I played it for my violin teacher. I told her it's name was Created Hens. But, at the end of the lesson, she asked, trying to keep a straight face, "So, it's really called Crusted Hens?" I burst out laughing and corrected her. We then somehow ended up calling it the Crusty Chicken song. I just thought it was funny and might share it.
I saw another very accomplished violinist play this tune online. Yours is MUCH better. I think there was no difference in the notes, only your style and skill.
There's a song I think you might like to play, it's called variations of a well-known sea chantey, it sounds like a lot of music you play. It's an amazing song and I suggest it:)
+Tyler Dixon I remember playing that piece when I was in Orchestra! :D I remember it had Rakes of Kildare and Drunken Sailor, but I forget what some of the other tunes were. I'll listen to it again! =)
My trio has been doing some rhythm exploration in the harmony for Crested Hens, sort of a 6 beat but not a jig. It's really cool to hear your arrangement with the harp background.
If I had seen you by chance at the recordings, I would have thought I had landed in a fairy tale :)) Thank you for this performance and your thoughts in the video description! :)
+voenigs It's not very apparent, but it isn't very glamorous filming videos like this..lol! It's hard to tell from a short video, but I usually have to play the tune a good 20 times and run around with a tripod between takes. People nearby start to get a bit bored of hearing the same thing over and over again... :P I still think it is so much fun to make these little videos. ^_^ Thank you for your nice comment, and for listening! =)
Hi Katy, my daughter loves your music and has begun playing violin after being inspired by your work. Please tell me, if you see this, what is that lovely harp music at the end of this video? I would love to hear the whole song. Thank you.
I just learned the first tune... All by ear O.o (Without the"trille", don't know this word in english ^^"). Thank you for making us discover all these beautiful songs!
+Victor Daley Thank you, Victor! I have a lot of stuff planned! I just need to find time to put it all together... I'm going to work on a video today! ^_^
A fantastic melody, would be great if you would share the notes (with up and down bows) :) PS. The backing track sounds so beautiful, you should compose your own songs!
