Very satisfying to watch, Tush and Les. Documenting the week points is educational for me, like seeing the crack in the rear diff mount with out the body on, etc. I find it amazing that Chef Tush, a chef by profession, so nonchalantly talks about fixing the frame by cutting and welding, when my local Brit car shop only talks about buying patch sections and having a 3rd party weld them. Pretty cool hobby you have there, Mr. T!
I have always wanted to restore a Triumph TR250 following this project has been a lot of fun. I hope we still get to see Les's progress with the project.
Great series. Learned a lot and laughed a lot. The Dave and Les show was something to look forward to each night during these unusual times. Thanks. Looking forward to whatever comes next.
Got that stripped in record time, I'm thinking. That frame certainly looks better than the other one, but there is still plenty to do on it. It will be nice to see it after blasting. Thanks again for this series of updates.
Nice work, congratulations on completing to this point. Les will have a lot of work ahead, but with a friend and partner like yourself I'm sure he will conquer.
I feel your pain on some stubborn bolts. One wheel nut on a mid 80s 2 door plastic car (you know of which I speak) flat out refused to come off with my normal reliable impact gun. I invented a new language that day. Aside: in the background, one song was These Dreams by Heart. Lead vocals were by Nancy Wilson, not sister Ann. The trivia bit is Nancy was sick as a dog when they recorded it and hated when her voice cracked a couple times, but the recording folks flat out loved it! He knew a hit...it was their first Number One.
Great frame by comparison to the first one, thank goodness! Looking forward to seeing how Les progresses with the blasting and repairs. Kind regards, Richard.
It’s not rust and dirt, it’s just a typical Triumph marking its territory!! Just like they do with oil from the engine gearbox and diff. The second chassis don’t look too bad, just a few repairs, box the diff mounts and it’ll be spot on
Nice job you two. That frame looks pretty sound to an uneducated eye with patch repairs rather than major replacement pieces needed. The other frame I think should be stored 'for another day' as it must be savable albeit with a lot of work. Its all '73 now then ....
What we will do with the other frame is put it under the 73 body for now to provide some added structure to it as you know we will be moving it around to media blasting/painting etc. Cheers, Tush.
These are great videos! Really helpful. I know there are 18 days in this series of videos of 15-25 minutes each (roughly) but how many hours would you estimate the total time spent of actual work? I know it depends on who is doing the work but I'm trying to get an idea how long a tear down project like these 18 days could take on average. Thanks! Looking forward to the rebuild videos!
Anywhere from 3-6 hours per day x 2 people is a rough guess. If you take a look at my TR250 playlist...you can follow my solo tear down there...it is very similar to the TR6
The TR250 tear down solo took me from April 3rd until the 17th...keep in mind that I work a full time job so most work was done on evenings and weekends. This was to take everything apart including the chassis.
Lol. Well, I was going to go show him how to take the front suspension the rest of the way so he could start cleaning and painting but he has other things to do 😉 maybe a quick video tomorrow.
David ,,,,,need some advice,,,,,I believe I have this same problem with my 75 tr6. A cracked diff mount ,,,,,can you recommend a shop in the Toronto,,,,,,Newmarket area,,,,,, I live in bolton,,,,just south on the 400 from you,,, When I release the clutch I hear a snapping noise,,,,like metal cracking,,,,in 1st,,,2nd gears I had the rear of the tr6 on ramps,,,I crawled under it,,,,,had my brother pump the clutch while in first gear,,,,,the front of the diff had what I would say is too much upward motion,,,,,also heard that snapping noise,,,, Anyway,,,it's something that needs to be addressed,,,,,if you know of a shop in the area that would do a good job,,???? Exotic motor works,,,,,we all ( Toronto Triumph Club). There a couple years ago in Oct.....for that open house and BBQ Any advice would be helpful,,,, Thanks Dave
Hi Doug, Yeah the first shop that comes to mind is Exotic as they know these cars pretty well and a few other TTC members have had work done there on their cars. Not sure if you are aware, but you can buy a kit to reinforce and box in the diff mounts from the regular vendors or, if you do some google searches, you can find the templates to make and cut your own steel boxing plates to be welded in by the shop.
Thanks David,,,,,,yes,,,,moss sell the kits to box in the mounts,,,,and also The Roadster Factory,,,,,I'll buy new mounts ,,front and rear ( just incase ). Will also order new rubber diff mounts,,, Thanks again David,,, Elin has himself a new toy !!!!
Doug Rv yes a TR3A. Just thinking as well Doug, it’s possible that Elin’s shop might take a paying job and you could have Elin work on your car...they do take some business in if the shop isn’t too busy..I think it’s a little quiet there at the moment.
Ok David,,,,I'll contact Elin ,,,,,,since I won't be heading to the Caribbean this summer for a vacation,,,I'll spend the money on my tr6. Wheel bearing all around,,,,,diff mounts ( if indeed that is the problem ). And still haven't had that new canvas top installed yet,,,hahaha,,, Thanks again David,,,,stay well my friend,,,, Oh ya,,,tell Lester to put down the coffee and get to work,,,,on that car,,,,lol
Hello David,,,,,,just chatted with Elin,,,,,he will speak to Jake,,,about repairs on my tr6,,,, Does the body have to come off to change the dif. Mounts? If indeed the front is cracked?
