After 1967 Lesley was done. Going to college probably interfered with her career. But this song is in a style that was already dated by the late 1960s.
Done? Commercially maybe, but as an artist and a performer the best was yet to come. She had some of her best television performances after 1967 (my favourite was the "Hey Jude/Cry Me A River" medley on Ed Sullivan), then she started writing her own material together with Ellen Weston in the 1970's, this partnership created many of my favourite songs including "Don't Stop Me", "Immortality", "Paranoia", "Other Lady" and "Can't Seem To Live Our Good Times Down". These songs sound fantastic on the Quincy Jones produced "Love Me By Name" album, but in concert they sounded EVEN BETTER which is the case for pretty much all her songs actually. Sure, Lesley's 60's bubblegum pop was phenomenal but she was capable of so much more, she could sing soul, jazz, rhythm & blues, and obviously rock (have you heard her rendition of "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"?)... honestly she could sing pretty much anything and do it with style. In summary: four studio albums, countless live performances including some very varied cabaret acts (everything from Gershwin to Elvis and June Christy!), charitable work, even an Oscar nominated original song ("Out Here On My Own", written with her brother)... No, Lesley was far from done!
