I took a punt listening to the book. I have watched it on tv and was a bit entertained. But I had a feeling that as usual, the books would be better. I was right. Thanks ever so much for putting them up. X
I think they are both terrific. I appreciate the beauty of Dangerous's wife and that both the dog and Mod are more attractive in the TV series, but there's a lot of gritty reality in the books. Haaving two versions is like doubling the number of Dangerous's books. They're both unique and funny and serious by turns. A little like "Minder".
I'm a newcomer to the audiobook and have just discovered your site K.P. I've enjoyed all the Marjorie Allington books read by the fantastic Francis Matthews and am now on Dangerous Davies and thoroughly enjoying it. Definitely converted. Thank you so much
I am so grateful for this audiobook. Really glad there are no food recipes, and your voice reminds me of the TV Christmas movies. 1970s. Love the tv series, and this is so nice to rest with. Even kitty enjoys your voice purrrrr😊😅🎉👀
Such wonderful writing with sharp, quick and thoughtful humour. It shows how manipulative young girls can be and is not full of the woke, political correctness garbage that is forced down everyones’ throats by writers, journalists and the media today. I have listened to these a number of times and still enjoy them so much.
Synopsis Davies is a low-ranked CID (mentioned as a detective constable at least once) officer in the London borough of Willesden. He is nicknamed "Dangerous" ironically because he is said to be harmless. The first story had him drifting into the years-old unsolved case of the disappearance of Celia Norris, a local girl with a dark side. With his friend, the perpetually unemployed and well-read Mod Lewis (he spends all his time at the library to save on heating) he tracks down the culprit, collecting plenty of cuts, bumps and bruises along the way at the hands of the local thugs. Very well read. This tv series is woefully miscast. It's a real shame as they are great stories. Some of the great moments in the books are set in Mrs Fulljames' guest house with Doris.
Hmmmn! I prefer the TV series, maybe because I saw it first and am a big Peter Davison fan, altho Peter Davison wouldnt be throwing an ex-boxer around. I also prefer his wife in the TV series and how the dog has a nice personality. Happy with both, however! Often TV adaptations really irk me.
There is much talk of the TV series, which was a travesty, despite the excellent potential cast of characters, and that the actors themselves have considerable talent. But, there is a much earlier TV film starring Bernard Cribbins, which follows the book much more closely - far better than the Peter Davison version, and with Bill Maynard in the Mod role, rather than Sean Hughes. 1981.
@@moustik31 It's a period piece in regard to the Lolita bit. Unsettling, perhaps, to our sensibilities, but I just forwarded through it...the "racism" is a 105 year-old veteran of the Zulu wars referring to the enemy as "blackies." Otherwise, a good read.
